A thought, the extra sound effects aren't ideal, but you repeatedly calling them out makes them a lot more noticeable and disruptive. Often times, the best way to handle that sort of thing is to acknowledge it once early on and maybe a second time at the end, but to otherwise ignore it (assuming you can't readily solve the problem) since your audience may or may not be as sensitive to it as you are, but they will absolutely notice you calling it out.
I agree it was excessive but the update literally happened before recording and was such a radical difference in the UI, gameplay and is buggy. I've gotten less irritated by it but it still seriously needs to be redone or reset.
100% agree, having it be pointed out constantly was incredibly frustrating, would have been much better to just increase the autosave window to the maximum and not mention it every 2mins that it autosaved
@@Maurauth Again I apologize. The update that completely altered my UI and settings happened literally ten minutes before recording and there was no notification. If I could have rerecorded this section I would have, but the nature of the game would have required me to restart.
I don't think the church would have been described as heterodox Calvinists if they were meant to be Orthodox. Calvinists are iconoclastic protestants; there is just no way you would ever confuse them with the Orthodox who worship in elaborately decorated churches full of icons and incense. If the game was making an allusion to Greek Orthodoxy from the perspective of Victorians who had never encountered it, I think it would be described as a Catholic sect. So, I think they avoided Lovecraftian racism here! Just weird former protestants using the Greek their witchy books are written in? Overall I love your explanations for the text though, I hadn't noticed the "leathery remnant" passage before hahaha. I need to pay more attention!
Thank you. I get somethings wrong. I completely missed that the internet had rekindled the practice of Zoroastrianism for one. That being said, the flavor of the game's lore is very much parsed through the lens of British colonialist occultist from a century ago. The simplistic and reductive view of non-European or European indigenous cultures and their sacred lore is very present in the text. With that said, odds are the Heterodox as described here are an group of British occultists incorporating practices from other cultures, a process known as religious syncretism. This was a common fad at the time of the game's setting. The "battle nuns", use of Greek, and the books you gain make me want to link this cult to the Sisterhood of the Knot. The Sisterhood is a faction worshiping the Red Grail, the Ring-Yew, and the Horned-Axe - feminine Hours generally of Desire, Destruction and Rebirth - and are a fascinating subject I should get into at a later point.
23:40 maybe important to note that you don't really need to just hope the fascination trap doesn't pop up, you can actually check on the time verb - it shows the next season in the bottom right corner, so you can always anticipate the next x+60 seconds

Amputations do not equal euthanasia unless its an amputation of the head my friend. They were just cutting crazy or unstable peoples legs so they couldnt roam the streets and hurt or annoy people. Still unethical but not quite killing for convenience
Considering you couldn't get British doctors in 1923 to wash their hands between operations (yes, really), the fatality rates of the poor for simple treatment in underfunded hospitals, the inability of a person missing a limb to get employment and the rise of eugenic theory in scholarship that would help lead to rise to fascism, the odds of a person surviving this operation and the aftermath were pitifully small. Passively murdering a person is still murdering them.
Love the series and am loving the game. One thing I would like to see are a bit more about some of the specific techniques, such as using a moth cultist or raw prophet to get rid of evidence, or how to murder a hunter. I've read lots of references about how this is possible, but am no sure how to go about it. Thanks for the series.
I cover some of that in Episode 6 but some of it is scattered through out the other videos. I might revisit that in a more organized fashion in the future.
@@FantasticWorlds First I want to say I've been enjoying the series. I rarely comment on videos but Phrygian was where I draw the line on your mispronounciations. The last one refers to Erudition, which you have been pronouncing 'Eridution' throughout the series. If I could make a suggestion, it would be try to slow down when you're explaining stuff. It was easy enough to follow when you were blowing through the early-game. However, later on you began to go really quickly and switch topics suddenly while explaining more opaque topics like assembling Rites. It would also probably help with the diction.
@Rocket I tend to speed up when excited which is likely part of the problem. Also due to the unexpected popularity of this series I am consider dedicated episodes to the complex concepts of magic and the Mansus. It was a replacement series and I never expected this to generate the traction it has, so there was no planned format to follow until now.
Generally, upgraded lores can function as their lower level counterparts. The only exceptions are the riddle for the stag door, and the entirety of the secret histories. The riddle requires a specific answer to the riddle, and secret histories has locations based off of the level.
Histories for sure until you get their final location, i.e. the forgotten reach for tier one history. And like the man above me said the stag door riddle, which if you really need the tier for that and you already passed it you can break it down by studying it with reason, so no real need to preserve any lower levels except a small convenience
Your point on Orthodoxy is not true, it sounds hideously uninformed and prejudicial. Greek Orthodox were a fellow schism like the Anglicans. You know the saying, an enemy of our enemy is our friend? In addition, the Greeks have been Britain's friends and trading partners for longer than you can imagine. They used to send their trading ships to bronze age Britain, selling us pottery. Henry VIII was a proper shagwit, but the Anglicans would have got in regardless of him needing a quick route to a divorce, such was their strength in numbers and growing popularity, he didn't let them in simply to be able to have a quick divorce, the Catholic church had a dangerous influence as an external power, the movement got the Cathedrals burnt down.
It's been so long since I have recorded this I don't actually recall what I said regarding that. I do know that I was researching the early church schisms between Roman Catholicism and the Orthodox Church of Constantinople that led to the Council of Nicaea, a favorite point of history for Gnostic conspiracy theory, and that might have led to me crossing wires of the subject. I can't claim to be an expert on the literal Byzantine politics of the interplay of religion and politics over the millennia. I do apologize if I offended.
The early Christian history is much more complex than most people realize. For example, the early Slavic branch of Christianity was partially based on the Irish and the English branches which were later destroyed by the German branch even before the Catholic heresy. Calling Russian Orthodoxy a "ripoff" of Greek Orthodoxy was a much more hilariously ignorant take.
Cultist Simulator is set in a Lovecraftian universe and involves creating a cult and discarding one's humanity to become an inhuman horror. Pretty stock cosmic horror from the bad guy's perspective. if you're referring to the HBO series, please note I've been using this title for my channel for almost three years before that series came out.
