I finally found some time to create another highway 58 construction update. RU-vid analytics has informed me that over 70% of viewers stop watching after 4 minutes so I shortened this one to see if it did any better. Let me know in the comments if you like this better than the long videos.
Highway 58 mountain (Lover's Leap Mountain) in Patrick County Virginia is being widened to a 4-lane road. Every couple of months, I post a quick update for the locals to keep up with the progress. Hubbard 1 Productions is not paid in any way for the Highway 58 videos. This company feels that the time spent shooting and editing these videos is time well spent keeping the area informed.
Despite all the Construction Bulldozers and Dump-Trucks, Meadows of Dan is still a beautiful place to visit. We have Poor Farmers Market, Concord Corner Store and the all-new Frontier Farm and Home Center. Plus don't forget to get Lunch or dinner at Jane's Country Cafe.
Meadows of Dan offers lot's of Vacation rentals like Mountain Waves Yurt for a Blue Ridge Mountain getaway.

I could watch this for an hour or more. I travel this way once or twice every week or so. Been ascending and descending this mountain since the 1950's. Used to climb up to the real Lovers' Leap until that guy built a house on it many decades ago. Used to go down Busted Rock Rd before Primland was ever thought of. Lots of memories from "on the mountain".

I thought the video was too fast so I set it to play at .5x speed. That gave me time to figure out what I was seeing.

I would love to see what all of this looks like from the car. Perhaps with a 360 camera mounted on top of your truck so we can pan around.

Thanks, this is helpful. A graphic overlay of the old, existing route versus the new would be even more helpful.

How do you want this presented? In a widow in the bottom right corner as the video plays?

@@hubbard1 It would be really cool if you could mess with opacity and overlay the two images at certain points, but that would require a lot of extensive editing and know-how. A side by side would work potentially just as well.

@@hubbard1 thanks for your reply. Can it be just part of a video with the new route shaded over the existing route? Not sure how that could be done but anything that shows the new route compared to the existing one would be helpful.

I like the longer videos better. Have you been able to talk to the construction workers on the project?

I will try to make a more in-depth video in the future. No, I haven't attempted to talk to Branch Civil.

Hey cousin, you do a good job filming. By being very familiar with the road and watching this in full screen on my desktop your presentation flows well. When people from outside our area see this they probably don't comprehend the size of the project. Off hand, I don't have a suggestion to help you with viewer retention through the presentation unless you edited in some sort of elevation or distance markings which might only take away from the video. I see one watcher actually slowed the video and made it run longer which may be a consideration. Ultimately, viewer retention is a problem for most publishers. A lot of people may have landed on this while they were looking for something totally different, so they watch a moment and move on

I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I'm already trying to figure out how to make the next one more engaging

Always love your videos. I always look past project at the beautiful Virginia mountain scenery. I hope the company doing work has something else lined up when they finish this because there is a LOT of machinery that's got to go someplace. I think I saw where project supposed to be finished by 2025 Looks like still a lot to do.

I believe that each company leases the majority of their equipment and the rental company lines up where it goes to next. What makes me believe this is that a lot of their pickups and smaller equipment have their logo on the side, but a lot of the bigger equipment does not, and some even has the words “United Rental “
