I grew tired of the Comancheep, but when I spotted my old J10 (not actually mine, but looks just like it), BleepinJeep went back to my top-10 list. I got hooked on Jeeps in Vietnam, so as soon as I could afford one back in the real world, I bought a J10. Lots of great memories involving my first 4-wheelin' on American soil. I'm driving a KJ now and still enjoy 4-wheeling whenever I can. I know I will like watching this new series. Welcome Nate.
This makes me beyond excited. Bleepin jeep definitely needs this. Been a long time subscriber and I was hoping content like this would happen. This reminds me of my buddy and I. We both bought Mercedes om617 diesels to put in our jeeps. He just got done putting one in his Comanche. I sold mine due to clearance issues bc I'm building a 1 ton Cherokee crawler. The om617 didn't seem to work for what I'm building. The stock 4.0 does just fine. Makes me happy seeing this bc these swaps are becoming more and more popular and I've always wanted to do one. It's a good thing seeing it on this channel bc more people can be informed of these swaps... There is more things to do to jeeps than just bolting on a lift kit. My buddy and I went half and half and just picked up a 83 j10 a day before this video came out. It has 360 v8 4 speed. Dana 44 front and rear. It was a barn find. We got it from an old man for damn near free. We are excited to get it going. It's got the same patina. Wish ours had that same grille style. Love them old jeeps.
Hell ya! I live in seattle. So sweet! Sundsvall like you were listening to the hip hop bbg channel on Pandora lol. Love the jeep. Looking forward to some local washington bleeping jeep wheeling.
I like your idea on this build and if I'm reading things right I like the idea of those Euro lights too. I always thought it made sense to have them there.
Sweet. The vehicle I regret selling the most was my 1964(?) J300 - looked similar to this one but a lighter shade of blue and slight body style differences. Had every single factory option except the motor and transmission were the base OHC Tornado I6 and a 3 on the tree manual. Factory options included a PTO winch, heavy duty front and rear axles with limited slip in the rear, power steering, power brakes, and...an AM radio. Think the heater may have been an option too lol, but I can't remember for sure. Sold it when I went back to school, but would love to pick up another some day. The Tornado engine was quite unique - one of the first US OHC engines, and it only had 6 cam lobes; intake and exhaust rockers were driven by the same cam lobe for each cylinder.
MB 3L I-5 turbo diesel. I had a '79 300SD with over 400k miles....god I miss that car. BTW the rear diff and a few other parts on the Old Benz are worth a lot of money. Like $2k for the diff or transmission. You should have tried to part it out. You could have broke even or even made a few bucks (bad deer pun)
I have nothing negative to say to you new guy. I really like those trucks and putting that little diesel in there is a cool project. And on a side note I as well listen to early 90s rap when working in the garage.
good on you Nate, exactly my cup of tea :) I wish these SJ's were really avaliable here in my country. Everytime one pops up it is a wreck and for mega bucks :(
My father used to drive mid 70's vintage Mercedes 220 diesel. No exaggeration, he had 650k miles on it when the odometer finally gave up. He went out and bought another Mercedes diesel, 330 I think, but it wasn't nearly as good a car. Cool project Nate!
I've had 3 of the om617 engines, you can't kill them. I wanted to do a 4x4 s-10 build with one but never got around to it. Looking forward to watching the rest of this build!
I've always wanted to put a 5.3 or 6.0L LS in one of those J10 Jeep truck with the stripped back Gladiator basic front end, an MB diesel is even better. Look forward to seeing the finished product, nice project! And you're right those deer teeth were pretty brutal, If I were you I would try and incorporate them into the dash of the finished product somehow to keep the story with the truck! XD.
I have searched the web for years for an all original J10 or 20 in concourse condition. I have only seen one and wow it looks good no lift kit nothing just wonderful still has hub caps and all . Not for sale but if it was I am sure it would be a lot of money
Can you do a video with more build details? Go over the major drive train components of the J10, the engine you ripped out, plans for it, ect. Then go over the major drive train details of the new set up (Mercedes diesel specs such as bore, stroke, displacement, model year range, horsepower/tq, common problems and things to look out for, what to do on a freshening up....) and you mentioned you've got "big plans" for the J10....list them out! (which transmission, axles, tires, gear ratio, t-case, ect ect ect).
