Regarding Pen Names... I’m an Illustrator and Writer (professionally) so I have 3: (1) an over arching company name/brand, (2) the children’s imprint of that brand name, (3) my actual name which relates back to my career cause I make art of a living (for over 25 years).... i use myself as an Author only for certain books (due to copyrights and etc.)... and I use 3 different Author Central Account pages.... very easy to keep up honestly... I don’t have an issue

Thank you, I was just getting my first book out there through KDP, and I was stuck on what to decide for a pen name, because amazon didn't like my pen name which had a keyword at the end. This video really helped. I'm just going to focus on actually publishing a book just for now rather than how satisfied I am with the work.

You do a great job with these videos - very easy to listen to and not as bossy as I was expecting! I don't think of myself as a publisher - I'm more of a designer - publishers are responsible for the quality of the printing and that is unfortunately something we have no control over. (Just my two penn'orth).

I guess words aren't enough for lazy person like me... 😆 Anyway, I wanted to know that if someone publishes a mid/high content book as paperback, so does he has to publish the same book for ebook separately..? And what about the title and other things, obviously those will be exactly same for paperback as well as the ebook..!

I'm new to the kdp scene and when I was setting up my first notebook in November 21, AMZ said I had too many keywords in my author name. Go figure. I did a search on AMZ for the other pen name I chose and the first result was a product for Cat Dewormer. LOL. Great video! I also loved your interview with Shashwat Ashiya!

My recent interest in KDP publishing has led me to your channel & I´m a new subscriber. Your approach resonates with me & is very much appreciated. Have you addressed in previous videos how you deal with the business aspect of your KDP publishing earnings? For tax purposes did you set up a company or are your KDP earnings a part of your personal income? Thank you for subscribing and welcome to my channel! I haven't made a video on the subject as it varies so much from country to country. I am in the UK and I am registered self-employed and fill out a yearly self-assessment.

It sounds to me that it would mean the revenues generated by your KDP sales are being paid directly to you as ¨personal income(salary)¨ rather than to a ¨registered company¨ in your name. That depends. I have one book out of my own so far and 2 I co-authored. Busy working on editing a novel and then further books. My low content books are within the niche I write /work in.

Hi Shahriar, thank you for watching. There are many niches you can research but typically upcoming niches in Q4 are always back to school, halloween, Christmas and planners and diaries for 2021. Hope this helps.

In 1:33 stop, how do you know you can have as many pen names in only 1 KDP account? I couldn't find that information in KDP content guidelines. I've been using just one author/pen name for 3 of my notebooks, but I now want to change the pen name. I know this is really dumb question, but I need to clarify, because the communication between KDP Content Review Team & KDP Customer Service are not the same. My question: for example, a new notebook for kids, I could change my current pen name to something different that compliments notebooks made for kids? I just wanted to clarify because I don't want to piss off KDP Content Review.

You can definitely use as many pen names as you like. But like I said in my video, please avoid keywords in your names as Amazon is really coming down on authors who keyword stuff their names. The only restriction is if you open an Author Central account, in which case you can only have 3 pen names per author central account. What will Amazon do if you happen to have the same name as a famous author? Will they make you choose another name even though it is legally your name, too? I don't know of any author with my name, but I do know someone with the same name as a famous author. He should have just as much right to use his own name as the famous author does to use his. This is a very interesting question. I think if your name is the same as a very famous author, then Amazon might flag this up. However, I guess if you can contact them with proof that it's your real name, I can't see how they can refuse accepting your author name. I know some people have added a letter to their name to differentiate it. I haven't got personal experience in this, but I think it would be best if anybody in this situation contacts Amazon and clears it with them. I agree they should have as much right to use their name as the famous author, but I'm not sure how Amazon see this.

You can request an extra Author name for your account beyond the 3 that they give you. I have 4.

What if you are an author in real life persona outside of your publishing persona and you're using your name? I am an author of high-content books and graphic novels (published with other publishers; I don't self-publish my fiction with the exception of one title). I'm assuming that you just call it a publisher either way. I'm thinking of making my low-content books related to what I write. I'll see how it goes.

I am new to amazon kdp self-publishing and am deciding on what to use for my author name. I have a question. If you choose to use a brand name or imprint name for your author name, do you have to register it as a dba (doing business as) with your state or is it considered the same thing as a penname which doesn't require this? Some people use a different brand (imprint) name for every book they create and it just seems tough if you have to file one of these every single time. I want to make sure I follow the proper procedure and also only create one or two author name profiles if this is the case to simplify things. By the way, Thanks for your wonderful teachings. I have been watching your videos and have learned so much about the business. You do a great job!

I'm afraid I don't know what you would have to do in the United States, as I am in the UK, and every country has different laws where business is concerned. However, when you publish on KDP you can use their free ISBN, so you wouldn't need to create an imprint. You just use different author names (pen names is the same thing).

It's completely up to you. I usually look at what my competitors do. If I see a nice colouring book that has 40 colouring pages, then I do that. Depends on the book. Also I always have a blank page after each image so that there is no colour bleed through. Hope that helps.

As a lifelong reader, I would personally never buy a product from a company with such a scammy name.. Stress Relieving Coloring Books for Adults as an example... That shows me the author is extremely low-effort, not really creative at all, and not interested in creating things.. just making money.

Activity book is a key word so it's not ideal. Maybe choose a different name for future books and leave the ones you have already published, Amazon might not say anything. Using the word 'Press' is ok.

How many book should I lunch in one niche?

There is no set answer to this but in my experience I would launch about 5 books. If they do well, then do 5 more. Everybody has a different approach, sometimes I only launch 1, depending on the niche.

Never write keywords in your author name. Just choose a person's name.

If you do not separate each niche then the customer will find all different books under one niche. It depends on how you want to brand your books. It is completely your choice. I don't always separate my niches, I don't use many pen names.

Do you have videos that cover the KDP guidelines? I ask because I am deciding if I want to create low-content books. As I research, I am noticing it might be too easy to have an account terminated. I would like more information before making an account.

A lot of people try and game the system by doing things that they think will give them an advantage when it doesn't. If you follow the KDP guidelines kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/GU72M65VRFPH43L6 there is no reason whatsoever why you should have your account terminated. And unfortunately there is a number of RU-vidrs who have recently appeared who are teaching the wrong kind of things. So always double check, and you will be fine. You can also join kdp facebook groups, there are a lot of really good teachers (Rachel Harrison-Sund, Ashley Schmitt, Caroline from My Freedom Empire, Dream Creative Bee, Rebecca Holman, to name a few), those are the people you should follow to get the best advice. You can't change your existing author names but you can choose a different name for new books.

@@mrlawdar7105 Unfortunately the only option is to unpublish and upload a new one with the correct name. You can't delete a book, it will stay on your bookshelf but unpublished, so not available for sale. Is there any way you can keep the wrong name?

Doesn't sound like a person's name to me, so I woudn't use it. Unless you have a brand with that name, with a domain name, then you could argue your case with Amazon. In the past it would have been accepted but now things are different.
