I absolutely love how you explain everything. I have watched so many videos on thyroid, and I’m getting just the basic understandings of it. But when I watch your videos, it’s worded in such a way that the lightbulb goes off and I get it now. I take 20mg Heme iron in the morning with 2mg copper and 500mg Whole Food Vitamin C (not just Ascorbic acid) for cerruloplasm I was taking almost 60mg of zinc for many months to boost immune system but it blocked my copper from food. This was so helpful! I had no idea iron/ferritin levels and thyroid were connected. I’ve had low ferritin for years, and after pressing my doctor who said there was nothing wrong with me, I got it tested and was at a 9 😬 he finally admitted I was iron deficient, go figure. Ive also had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I’ve been taking organ supplements and betaine Hcl and my numbers are rising 😊 can’t wait to feel normal again!

super video , I had all my life my ferritine between 43-50 for no reasons. My HB is always very good, my Iron is perfect, but ferritine so in that case all docs even in private clinics dont DO NOTHING ! After few years I observed some symptoms going nuts as : fatigue +++, lost of lots of hair almost bald, irritability, or depression ( and I am so extroverted , happi-funny person) , as well Ive argued with my MG and finally he order a antiTPO which was so high as 300 so auto antibody attacking my thyroid BUT because my thyroid labs was in normal again he DID NOTHING I am worst now in symptoms and nobody do nothing here in the capital of Canada , Ottawa !!!!! Now after 3 years I observed my level of lymphocytes goes up and up and I,ve got 2 lymph nodes developed ! so now I have decided to leave in vacation in Europe to seek a medical attention and to find a diagnostic / some cure for my root of my condition, not for my symptoms !!! I am so sick and tired of all :(

This is spot on for me. I am a 58 year old guy but started feeling fatigued and more anxious last Fall and it got really bad during the holidays especially in regards to sleep. My CBC results were in the mid normal but I paid to get a vitamin B test and it included an iron panel and everything was low normal but Ferritin of 25 ug/ml and B12 of 1483. I started taking 20mg Heme iron every morning with 2mg copper for cerruloplasmin. I have low stomach acid that I treat with Betaine HCL and Apple Cider vinegar plus I was taking a tom of Zinc since COVID started. My theory was that the Zinc was blocking iron and copper absorption plus low stomach acid also contributed to be not getting minerals from foods. I also started taking liquid ionic minerals (magnesium, copper, zinc, and calcium) too. This week my B12 was around 800 and my Ferritin was 61 ug/ml. I have more energy and my sleep and anxiety are better. My hair thinned alot and it has stopped shedding as much. My target is 100 ug/ml and hopefully my hair will start regrowing. The low ferritin definitely caused me to become hypothyroidal.

Hi. My Ferritin is 12. Was much lower last year. I also have low hemoglomin and low iron. It has affected my thyroid hormones as the antibody test for it is zero. I'm feeling really tired all the time with anxiety, headaches, dizziness, can't sleep that well or concentrate. Have dry skin on hands. Started taking vitami c and iron tablets from a month ago. Was prescribed 100mg of iron per day. I cant say im feeling great yet. Should i increase? I have good days and bad days. After i gave birth in 2021 i started feeling like that but ignored it as i though i was just too tired around the baby. Just recently got tested. How long will it take to get better? I don't want to feel this way anymore 😢

That’s why you test for ferritin and vitamin D deficiency right out of the gate. If it’s low you supplement, and micro doses of iron, monitor testing to make sure you don’t get jaundice.

I had Grave's. Did radioactive iodine so now I'm on synthroid (for about 33 years now). My ferritin is low. Since I don't have a functioning thyroid anymore, how would my thyroid influence the level of ferritin? Can it be the other way around too?
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean Месяц назад
Thyroid function is all about active thyroid hormone (T3) interacting with the thyroid hormone receptors on your cells - so in theory you should be "making up for" your lack of innate thyroid hormone production by taking Synthroid (T4). Unfortunately, the conversion of T4 to T3 isn't always efficient, or other factors can mess up the receptivity of your cells to thyroid hormone. Like I detailed in the video, iron plays a role in this conversion and receptivity, which is how ferritin can impact thyroid hormone function.

Hi! I have gotten the diagnosis hypothyroidism, since my TSH is high. My other thyroid-levels are normal though, so now neither me or my doctor are sure that I actually have hypo, or if something else is causing my high TSH. (I’ve been referred to a endocrinologist but sadly they don’t want to help me.) What do you think? I also have low ferritin, at first I had 7, but it went up a bit after supplementing. I had to stop taking the supplements though because they made me feel so bad. Not GI, but worse fatigue and I actually felt so sick that I felt like I was dying. I also have high hemoglobin even though my ferritin’s low, so I’m not sure if it’s safe to use iron supplements or what dose I should use. Any thoughts? I have been very sick for about 5 years but it has gotten worse and worse. I’m homebound. I struggle with chronic fatigue and pain amongst other things. I have very many symptoms. I don’t feel like I’m getting any help or moving forward with my doctor.

Hi, there - really sorry to hear you're struggling. While I can't speak to your specific situation, I can say that "optimal" ranges for thyroid hormones (like free T3, for example) are different than "normal" ranges, and sometimes this can explain why some folks have all the symptoms of hypothyroid with numbers that are within the "normal" range - it's not normal for YOU. If you're looking for more personalized input, consider signing up for a consultation with me - here's some more info: bit.ly/drkate1on1

My ferritin levels are high, currently down from 1300 to about 650, but still way above the norm. How do I lower my ferritin to get it to normal levels? It definitely affects my fatigue level in my daily activities. Any help?
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean 25 дней назад
Elevated ferritin levels can be caused by an inflammatory issue - metabolic syndrome or blood sugar problems like type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver, autoimmune diseases, or even an underlying infection can all cause elevated ferritin. Getting it to normal levels requires assessing and addressing the root cause of the inflammation.

I wasn’t given a blood transplant as my blood loss left me just above the minimum threshold (UK practice) I was given 3 months of iron tablets, but since then, my Ferritin has struggled between 14 & 21 and I have had symptoms of anaemia on and off while having normal haemoglobin/ serum.iron. Is it possible that the blood loss caused this deficiency that I have never recovered from. I was subsequently dx with Hypothyroidism and I have RRMS. XX

That sounds like a terrible ordeal - so sorry you had to go through this. It is not only possible but likely that blood loss is one of the root causes for your current deficiency - but I'm also suspicious that the antibiotics you used could've caused microbiome problems that may also be contributing to your lack of recovery in terms of ferritin!

I have slowly lost the ability to sweat. Ferritin levels are at 35 ng/ml. Could this be the cause of my in ability to sweat?

Hmmm - I don't know of any connections between sweating and ferritin levels, but if I come across anything I'll check back!

Not sweating can mean your detox pathways are blocked! Hydrate and eat as nutrient dense as possible

@@DrKateLyzengaDean how about Sjögren’s disease? I found a journal article stating that people with this disease have decreased sweat production. Just tested positive for SS-A and SS-B

thyroid regulates sweating. When my tsh dropped to “undetectable” levels 0.03, I couldn’t sweat & my naturally oily skin was dry.

Low or sub optimal ferritin can test normal on conventional labs? 🤯 Obviously Ferritin tests are outdated and innaccurate. With all the technology advancements we cant update our medical testing ?! 🤨

We certainly would benefit from updating our normal ranges for blood labs, that's for sure!

@@DrKateLyzengaDean Wonder 🤔 who has the power to upgrade conventional labs to reflect optimal representation ? Wouldn't it be great for a billionaire or trillionaire to make that happen 🙏🏼😎❣️
