Good evening Miss Tessie. Even though I live in the city ( NYC), I always use my clothes line to dry my laundry. I also have drying racks ( 4) that I put up inside, near my radiators, or near open windows on warm days. . Two of them are over the door types, to save on floor space. I maintain that it saves me money ; less electricity used, better for the environment, less time sitting at laundry mat waiting for the laundry to dry, and less taxing on the fabric by air drying. Thank you for your videos, keep it up.
Very smart especially since I saw a CSI episode where they were collecting evidence from a laundromat and the amount of crap they found in the dryers was frightening everything from dog hair to feces
Even though you do it to save ... isn't it also such a sense of fulfillment ? I think us humans have moved beyond our purposes.. we are not to be slave to a system ..we are to be one with the earth .and live up to our abilities building or homesteading is our purposes.
I have an indoor rack to hang cloths on to dry. When I was a child during the 1960s my parents had hooks in the walls and hung wet cloths inside by hanging up cloths lines inside.
mom always had a cloth line now that she is older she has a clothes rack i always wanted a clothes line laundry always smells so fresh hanging out side GOD BLESS TESSY HAVE FANTASTIC NEW YEAR/
I wouldn’t be without my clothesline. If people realized their biggest costs in a home were the water heater, stove, and DRYER-they might not have so much to complain about, now that energy costs are soaring. Also, clothes lines in the cold/freezing temps disinfect with temperatures killing any germs, and the sun does the same thing! All about recanning too. Can I adopt a brother-in-law? Haha! Stay warm friends, ~~QM ❤
Awesome as always Tessie always watch but don't always comment been on phone with someone in need in rural pen. In your area I'm organizing a raiding party for her Livestream Sunday they are facing being homeless their channel is called bake a leg and let's dig it
That's great advice but it's also where you live, it could start raining at any moment where I live, and be so cold nothing will dry, I do put clothes out during the summer month's but wintertime no I can't it's to risky 😀.
I don’t generate much laundry, about 2 or 3 small loads a week and although I don’t have a clothesline I hang things on my drying rack. I occasionally will use the dryer for blankets during the winter or maybe partially dry them and hang them on my stair railing on the second floor.❤️
I decided to not use my clothes dryer except for towels. I hang things on a heavy duty shower rod in the extra bathroom and put a small fan below them, aimed up. They dry without wrinkles and I do this overnight. The moisture from drying helps humidify the air when it’s cold outside and I don’t need to run a humidifier!
Thanks for the refresher on canning ketchup. I know you have done it before and I could look it up, but it is kind of nice to get a review every now and then.
I don't have a clothesline anymore but I do like to hang small loads at a time over the deck railing. For the winter: I found a closet rod that I pulled through plumbing pipes in the basement and hang the clothes on clothes hangers. It works great since the basement is warm and dry in the winter.
Good Morning Tessie, Sisters, Brothers, and Friends:-) Wish you all a wonderful blessed Thursday filled with Gods Joy and Happiness :-) Remember to pray for one another and for all around the world :-) God Bless You ! Love you all :-) Keep smiling be safe :-)
Line-dried clothes are the best! They smell so good. I’ve been line drying for a long time, and feel many are missing out on not only saving money but fresher clothes.
I haven’t used my dryer since last April, I love hanging my cloths to dry my house smells so good and the cloths will last much longer as well. I have saved money not using my dryer so that makes me so happy. ❤❤❤❤
I'm looking for canning supplies! Thanks for the tip about rings in the bottom of a large stockpot. I can do that, easy peasy. I'd like to can a whole bunch of caramelized onions 🌰 (love and adore them) and preserve some of the leftovers from the food pantry where I volunteer that go to the compost bin when we don't have a driver to deliver for a third offering. I need a canning book of my very own.
Tessie, I always look for bargains at the store I prefer to hang wash on the line and if it rains I have a cloths rack in the basement I can hang wash on though I do sometimes need to use the dryer :-) I'm loving those canning pots :-) Love you my sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-) Tessie it's been some mild here today it got to 62 :-)
I grew up with a home that had a dryer but we never used it. In the summer it went on the line (or on a rare cold but dry day since it was in the PNW), and in the winter it was a rack by the wood stove. I still hang a lot, but not everything. There are a lot of things I prefer hanging but some I do like to dry. And sometimes convenience just wins. But if energy goes up a lot, it will be an easy transition since it's very familiar for me.
waterbath canning is very simple but pressure canning is scary. If the pressure and temperature is not kept just right then I've ruined a canner full of food. So far I haven't had the courage to try using my pressure canner.
Hi Tessie. Here in New Zealand the majority of people have always used clothes lines. The cost of electricity is pretty expensive and dryers use a lot of electricity. On watching some other youtube channels they have said its illegal in some states to hang your clothes on a line. Shame that cos its a free resource. I guess the powers that be will always find some way around it though so we're paying more.
Hello Tessie! Happy New Year to you and your family! ❤ I love laundry dried outside! All my childhood my mother used to dry the laundry same way. I remember crawling into bed after our baths at nite and just smelling the freshness of our sheets. Even later in life when my parents got a dryer, we always still used the clothesline. That is one of my favorite memories growing up. ❤️
Good evening Tessie. That's great to receive the canners. I must say you are a good teacher. And make the process of canning look doable. Thanks. Take care. ❤️
This is great! My grandmothers canned. I remember being in the kitchen at grandmother's house watching her can. Wonderful! Blessings, Tessie! Brenda in Arizona
On the bottom of plastic bottles have a code. Bottles that say PETE on the bottom is the only plastic that is safe for long term storage and safe for re-use. Good luck all😊
Grew up with a very cheap and clever dad on a little homesteady place The heating element on the dryer went out so my dad made a wood burning box out of metal in the back behind dryer and In circled it with pipe that connected to the dryer air intake. We would build a little fire in it during winter and dried out clothes that way. But I love the way clothes smell line dried on a sunny day. My dryer barrel belt broke two years ago so I have gone back to the line. Hubby installed eyebolts near wood stove and I have strung lines inside for winter. My power bill hasn't increased hardly since the inflation hit.
Happy New Year sweet Tessie. My mother in law would use an old towel in a big pot. What a great brother in law. So happy for you!! Blessings to you Ken and the family!!
I love love the smell of line dried laundry. Everyone can't do that because of time constraints, but I'm happy to do it even when my clothes are frozen stiff 😄. I'm going to do that, shop for bulk items and re-can. Plus, I can use the big cans for pink geraniums on the porch come summer. I appreciate the primer, Tessie, as always.
I mounted a wooden bar above the door, the length of my small laundry to hang clothes on those rain/snow days. I also attached a 1x2" six foot rod on my ceiling across from my wood stove. I put hooks along it 2-3" apart, for hanging laundry. Both areas dry great, and hold a lot more than I anticipated. And i can stand in place and make minor repairs, buttons, hems, pockets..without taking anything down. Love your videos Tessie. I'm learning so much. God bless you.
I would love to have a clothesline. We're only allowed to have the umbrella type clothesline. It's not bad for small loads. So nice of your brother-in-law to get you those big pots.
Hi Tessie! I love your videos! I’ve been watching them so much I feel like I have been in the school of Tessie😂 You work hard and I just think you’re inspirational! Thank you so much!💗
Hi Tessie..... I am Ontario Canada, so your number 10 cans are larger I think than ours.... I also use the food Banks here and when they have the larger cans, I get my allotment and recan them, You taught me this.... Thank You
Those canners are just gorgeous; what a fantastic brother-in-law! Canning tomato sauce and ketchup are on my to-do list; I'll be on the lookout for the #10 cans of ketchup. That's a super easy way to preserve it! I do use canned tomato when I make sauce or salsa because I just can't grow enough on my patio to use those. It's a huge money-saver to have them on hand; a jar of salsa is up to $3.99 or $4.50. I can make and can my own for a fraction of that cost (around 75 cents or so per pint).
I love my Amish clothes line I got in Pa. So much easier than trying to get down the steps with heavy baskets of wet clothes. Have a blessed day friend
I'm in a mobile home 55+ community. We can't have clothes lined but I put 2 large wooden dryers on the bporch. I do batches based on that drying space My mom had 8 boys and 2 girls and never had a dryer. We survived healthy and happy. Here in Florida wear mainly light clothes, tshirts, small ankle socks so most loads are small and dry fast.
Love these vlogs! My daughter went to the grocery (I believe Target) and found a container of ketchup. When she got to the register, it rang up 7.99!! She found chips for 4.49 each. They were on sale for 2 for 10!! That was Target, she sent me the picture. And I have not owned a dryer in over 7 years, I do not want one, I agree with you!
Please pray for me, I am trying really hard to ditch a bad habit, I have been smoking since I was 8 years old, I will be 52 in May, I have always heard days 3 to 5 are the hardest with day 5 being the worst, I am here, day 5 and oh my word, I know how can someone crave something so gross n. nasty, to answer that, Idk, I don't yet here I am fighting n struggling to clean up the temple God gave me, thank you in advance n God bless you all, if you're not a praying person, I cheerfully accept positive thoughts and good vibes thank you to all.♥️
I dry my clothes outside as well and on rainy days I use my three clothes racks that I have never had a dryer and I don’t intend to own one I love the sent and feel of the clothes when they dry outside in the sun. It was so nice of your brother in law to give you the two water bath canners ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I use my dryer about 3 times a year, but mostly a dryer works as a storage place for blankets. I keep wanting to get it out of my small house, but someday I may not be able to hang up clothes.
As a child, my mom would hang clothes on the line, after washing them with Tide. I remember having a hard time breathing for a few nights afterwards. Come to find out I had numerous high level allergies to pollen and cleaning products. I choose my battle's as there just isn't enough medicine for when my allergies go wonky. Hubby made me a huge drying rack for inside.
I love all your helpful hints and ideas! I love my clothes line. We do get pretty cold in Iowa....Like we have already had 30 below here so I do have a few moths where I don't hang out too much but otherwise I always use my clothesline.
We live in a country close to the Equator & hang laundry outdoors all year round. They smell so good! Only fluff them in the dryer 5 minutes. Maybe you can try some indoor drying racks. My Mom had a few them back in the day.
I hang my clothes year round in my home, it's always so pretty in your state, my state is rainy, foggie, cold all the time, gloom and doom look here in Michigan
great videos that are needed for inspiration during these lean times. I bought a drying rack and hang clothes inside as well as on hangers from my shower rod.
There is no need to worry about canning tomato sauce or ketchup, it is still under the 4ph level. So warm water canning is good enough, there is no need for pressure canning. In Europe it is considered as safe. BTW I'm working at the email for the things I planned to do off-grid.. it is almost finished :) It is quite a long one :)
I really been getting used to using our solar units I really need to work on water off grid That's really important this summer I'm i'm trying to think of less expensive things to do because money's going to be tight this summer for us I would like to see if I can find a way to dehydrate fruit without my electric dehydrator but I could use the power of the sun to dehydrate it in a way though that won't get bugs around it
@@HomesteadTessie I might have an answer to that. I've send you an email about my plans and one of the things I mentioned is solar heating. I f you build a box with a thing like desertsun02 made, it would collect the sun and transpot the heat to the box part (and put a few holes in it for the moisture( it seems to me a solution and it only costs you 4 watts of power (due the fan). .
Tessie,my son in law does some dumpster diving ,gets great stuff ,he found a water bath canning pot just like yours ,brand new with jar lifter too its amazing !
