wish you showed how to vent it out the top and/or back. The video was helpful, but the venting is where the fun really really begins and it the tough part.
Hamilton! Thanks a ton for this. After reading the instructions over and over I turned to RU-vid and found this. Clarified everything and made it so easy! So appreciated!
Thank you so much! Just installed our Whirlpool low profile microwave today and your video made so much sense. The instructions included with the microwave were not easy to understand but you cleared it up. I am thrilled with how it looks! Thanks again.
Thank you for this! Maybe it's because I don't do this for a living, but the instruction manual that came with this microwave is difficult as hell to understand. Your video, on the other hand, is as clear and concise as it gets. Going to get this installed this weekend.
We've got older cabinets that are beautiful, but we have limited space under the cabinets above the oven due to the age. We went with a Whirlpool low profile microwave and replaced our hood vent and it fits like a glove. The electrician/installer was very impressed and said he knew a lot of clients who would like to have it, so he'd start recommending it.
Followed your instructions and all went well. Microwave installed and now need to cover the old holes damage from the previous professional install. Kudos to Whirlpool too...makes much more sense than the pieces of paper and tape. Take care and stay safe.
Instantly subscribed! Thank you, for sharing this video!! Following your instructions, I successfully installed the same microwave, for my Mom today!! It is a beautiful addition, to her kitchen! 👊🏼😊
THANK YOU! Out of all of the 'how-to' videos I've seen over the years online this was one of the best produced, concise and helpful! Might just buy this exact model because of this video!
Just installed mine this weekend I had to also install a outlet in the cabinet since this was replacing a hardwire hood was a little nervous about that but it was OK. Just wanted to thank you for the step by step demonstration it helped a great deal. 👍
Nice video Pat, Direct and to the point without a lot of the extra pointless info. Appreciate the time you took to make, edit and post. Helps with the must know for installing one of these. Cheers
Thanks so much for posting this video. It helped us immensely! We had to go with a bump out and had a back vent to work with, but this helped clarify the basic process. I won't say it was easy as the back vent was poorly installed by the last "professionals" who installed the past two microwaves. Doing the job ourselves gave us an MUCH better product and now I have a fan that actually takes cares of stove top heat and smoke. You made the installation so much easier for us. Thank you!
Your video was very helpful. I have a Kitchenaid with a very similar mounting bracket. It wasn’t clear to me that the bracket also served as a template to mark mounting holes under the cabinet until I watched your video and then it all made sense. Thank you for a very informative video, I hope kitchenaid takes some clues from you and makes their instructions clearer or better yet encourage new owners to subscribe to your videos ! Thank you !!!
Thanks man. I planning to install this unit tomorrow, and couldn't figure out the instructions. I thought you had a choice of cabinet OR wall mounting, I didn't realise you use template to mark the cabinet first. Until i saw your video. You made my life easier, thanks! Subscribed!
Yo! Just installed this bad boy and wanted to thank you for providing a great step by step on the installation. The instructions provided by Whrilpool were a little lackluster but your video was perfect! She's installed and looking good. Cheers!
As an FYI for those installing a microwave by themselves (like me). I bought a inexpensive scissors lift to bring the unit up to height for mounting (Amazon title "ECLV 30'' Electric Wireless Remote Control Dining Table Coffee Table Lift,Black,110V-240V,Working Platform Computer Desk Electronic Scissor Lift" ). It fits perfectly under the microwave for lifting it up to the proper height for hooking it on the backplate and then lifting it the rest of the way and insert the screws that go into the top. I had to shim it with some wood to get it to lift up to the proper height for my particular installation for my low profile unit (it's unusually high, but then so am I). I also used it to lift the unit from the floor to the counter. I found it was best putting the microwave on it's side for lifting to the counter top. That way I can simply tilt it over on to the lift. It doesn't quite come up to counter top height so I had to lift it the last few inches onto the counter. Still, better than lifting it from the floor and when lifting the microwave into position to hook on and then holding it as you fish the power cord through the hole and put in the screws to hold it into the shelf. That's gotta be rough on the back over the years. The lift holds it in place for hooking and then lifts it up the rest of the way for putting the screws in. Some day I'll use the lift for raising something (like a TV). It even comes with a remote.
This is so much clearer than the instructions. It interesting our houses 🏘️ must have been made about the same time because we have the same stud configuration 😃
Receiving my microwave next week and anxious to install….you make it look so easy…… I If you come over to help install I’ll provide the refreshments…Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! All kidding aside I definitely will report back to let you know how it went. Cheers ! 😎
Loved listening to you Mr Hamilton~I have been looking at low profile microwaves for quite a while. I'm undecided because of it protruding out maybe too far. I want more of my backsplash to show ~ My problem ~ Right? Thank you! A joy to watch your video.
Doug Chivers Thank you. I like that your shelf has a facing board along the front...the bolt holes with all that weight are very close to the front of the shelf...a bit scary for me, as our shelf doesn't have any extra beef at the front. I'm ready to drill the holes...wish me luck!
Great vid. Waiting for mine to be delivered. May I ask, if you put lag screws into studs, do you still have to do the toggle bolts?.. Thanks for any answer
Great job ...I just installed one this weekend , wish I found your video earlier . I’m guessing you are using the internal vents? I has to open the top and install the vent piece , I can hear it hit when it opens and close , Not too excited about that
So question, trying to install one and was wondering if it matters if you use the holes at the top or bottom for mounting… what made you choose the top right and lower left?
Fantastic video! Question - was that backsplash/tile just below the bare wall? Wondering if the backsplash (tile) needs to be cut out so that the entire back of the unit goes on wall only: not partially on wall and partially on backsplash/tile? Wondering if that caused any measurement issues? Our current kitchen has tile (1/3 inch thick) that goes all the way up to the hood fan. To install such a unit with 1/3 inch tile, do I need to remove (cut out) that tile? Thank you.
Thank you, I am glad that you enjoyed it! The backsplash in this video is really just wallpaper. I would try to avoid cutting the tile, if it were me. The back bracket has some flex to it, so it might be possible to flex between the tile and wall gap (that really depends on where the anchors and hooks fall). The best option would be to cut a board that is the same thickness as your tile, that way you can bridge the gap and keep the same size plane throughout. You can use the board as a spacer on the drywall and attach the bracket directly to that. Hope this helps!
How did the low profile fit in so well? The height did not overhang next to the cabinets on the left and right? Did you have her cabinets already adjusted to match the low profile microwave? I have an older taller microwave to replace that is almost leveled with the cabinets on the left and right. Once I install the low profile, I will not have the cabinets leveled on the left and right because the new low profile microwave is shorter in height
Does anyone who has installed one of these microwaves know how many inches away from the back wall the hole in the top of the unit is for the electrical cord?
Hi Pat, I’m going to buy a low profile microwave but after the installation the gap between the microwave and the range will be 15”? Would you go by 15” gap?
Does it have to be installed flash below the cabinets or can it go a little bit lower? I'm short and I want a low profile microwave but I need to be able to reach it. I can get a face plate that matches the wood to cover up the gap. What do you think?
What is your distance from the top of the stove to the bottom of your new microwave? Their directions call for 24 inches, yours looks to be lower than that.
Thank you for checking out my video! Once you plug it into power, you should be good to go! All of the controls can be found on the right-hand side when the door is open.
