A total of 296 accidents and 132 deaths occurred on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway since January this year, according to a report compiled by Alok Kumar, additional director general of police, traffic, and road safety. The alarming trend has raised concerns over alleged engineering defects and reckless driving by commuters, making the expressway a cause for worry. Official operations of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway commenced on March 12, and since then, it has earned the dubious nickname “accident den” due to the series of unfortunate incidents.
It's a highway, not an expressway, clarifies NHAI justifying 100 kmph speed limit on the Bengaluru-Mysuru road
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified that the recently upgraded Bengaluru-Mysuru highway is an access-controlled national highway, not an expressway. The maximum allowable speed on this road is set at 100 kmph, as opposed to the 120 kmph limit typically associated with expressways.
Vivek Jaiswal, NHAI's regional officer, told ToI that their notifications explicitly designate the road as an access-controlled highway, not an expressway. He clarified, "The highway is designed for a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph, not 120 kmph. While the infrastructure might resemble that of an expressway, the enforcement agencies are applying speed limit regulations appropriate for an access-controlled highway."
One way toll fare on Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway has increased from July 1, cars have to shell out Rs 320 for a onw side journey and for a return journey on the same day, a car has to pay Rs 485. The increase in the toll fares came into effect after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) decided to collect toll between Mysuru and Nidaghatta at Maddur. This will be the second toll plaza on the expressway. At the existing one, the Sheshagirihalli toll plaza, cars pay Rs 165 for a one-way transit.

The ban on two-wheelers, autos, tractors, non-motorised vehicles, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles, and quadricycles from the main carriageways of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway from August 1 began with diversions and fines.
National Highway 275 (India) also commonly referred to as Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled Expressway, part of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Economic Corridor (EC-34),[1] is a national highway that starts from Bengaluru and goes through Mysuru as a 10-lane expressway of 119 km (74 mi), and again as 4-lane till Bilikere (towards Madikeri), and ends at Bantwal. This highway connects the coastal city of Mangaluru to Bengaluru. The Bengaluru to Mysuru section of this highway was upgraded from 4 to 10 lanes, out of which the 6-lane section is the main elevated access-controlled carriageway and the other 2-lane section on both ends of the carriageway are service roads.
