I use Dirty Labs, and I love it. I use both the Magnolia and the Jasmine scents. I buy them in the larger bottles, which don't come with additional silicone caps. After filling the cap I just toss the whole thing in the machine, as the silicone won't damage the clothes, and won't be damaged even in hot water.

The measuring cup for dirty labs is silicone which is not a plastic so it really is “plastic free”!

yes it is plastic free. as you just said, silicon is not a plastic
@dogman-on1oc

silicone is synthesized from silica (high-purity sand), water, and methanol. Methanol is a byproduct of natural gas, AKA a petroleum product. Silicone is half natural, mostly synthetic. Silicone does not decompose.

I started using Seventh Generation’s laundry detergent powder and I really love it. I tried Earthbreeze detergent sheets but my coin-op washer wouldn’t dissolve it all the way for the most part. I really like the seventh generation powder because it comes in a metal canister (completely recyclable) and it doesn’t come with a measuring tool which I love as well. The canister also has braille down the side which I found interesting since I’ve never really seen products that have that. Knowing some people that are legally blind, they say that it’s such a game changer for them

Hi, one thing that should help with residue is to put the detergent in first. Start your water running. Then when it’s about 4” deep in your top loader, then begin adding your dirty laundry. Also remember that you want to place the laundry in loosely up to about 4” from the top. That way they can agitate more effectively. As far as a detergent that makes a lot of suds, that’s not a good thing. Suds are harder to rinse out of fabric and will make the fabric attract more dirt. That’s what HE High Efficiency detergents are good for. They make reduced and low suds so they rinse out better in the more water efficient washing machines. I sold commercial laundry equipment for four years. I haven’t used the low/zero waste detergent strips. I have a high efficiency commercial Speed Queen stack washer and dryer. I won’t use pods in it in any fashion. Pods used to cause a lot of our service calls as they would gum up washers no matter where you put them. In general they have dissolve-ability issues. I have used the washer balls no detergent option. I quit using them after washing my late Mom’s laundry for her. The little old lady smell never went away. It also passed onto my future loads. So if you and your spouse have smelly clothes from workouts, camping, and work, I don’t think your clothes would ever smell clean. I love my dryer balls though. I just hate hunting them down in the dry laundry and finding where they have bounced or rolled to. I am rather good at keeping them away from my cats. One reason I bought my commercial (expensive) Speed Queen (even more expensive) home sized washer and dryer, is they’re made to be repaired, not replaced. They’re also good about being easy to do maintenance on. Much more so than big box brands which are meant to be replaced every 2-5 years. Plus my washer can wash up to 21.5 pounds of clothes and uses less than half the water of a top load washer. Plus front loaders have a higher spin speed so that much more water is extracted, leaving clothes much drier than top loads. Then the dryer has over dry protection so that it can shut the dryer off when it reaches the level of dryness you want. I hate buying big ticket items. So I saved up and bought this unit, which was nearly three times more than those in big box stores, even with my employee discount. I purchased it in Fall of 2018. It came with me when I moved 900 miles away. I am hoping it will outlast me. My Godmother’s outlasted her. She bought her Speed Queen set around 1960. As of 2017, her adult granddaughter was using them after she had passed. So for me, the efficiency, the soundness, and serviceability make a well thought out purchase, like this, a great choice for the environment.

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist I wouldn’t either. Then I realized if I started the water and put in the detergent first. I've had the same washer and dryer from Kenmore for 25 years now. Still going well. But when they do give up the ghost, I'm getting speed queen. I know they're very expensive, but I also know that they are worth it in the long run. I'm tired of this disposable society or people expect their washer and dryer to only last three or four years. That's pure BS. Did you know that appliances sold in Europe with the same brand name as they have in the USA actually last longer? Because Europeans don't play with us. Disposable attitude crap either. They expect their appliances to last in the ones that they sent to the European nations do last. The ones that keep her in America are crap..

Any plans to try Blueland? That's the favorite for my husband and I. I am not too picky but my husband and I also tried a couple laundry detergent strips and he could not stand they way our clothes felt afterward. But we're both happy with Blueland. And the packaging is extremely minimalistic for the refills! There is a tin that you can buy for to put the tablets in for the first purchase but I have just been buying the refills themselves which come in a sealed compostable paper bag. I don't think the first time tin is necessary.

Thank you letting know about this update. It was not as thorough as the 1 I saw. I was wondering if the cap was silicon seeing as you squeezed it and plastic generally breaks or cracks when you squeeze it 🤔. I was also wondering whether the laundry straps have PVA in the ingredient list. Overall this video came across more rushed, but I do not mind that so much because I appreciate the quick content. I did enjoy your other video more because it was calmer and I felt calmer watching it and afterwards. I would appreciate if you could address the questions I have and keep the slower pace. I also enjoy the nerdier review style with more facts, but I keep the casualness. Good luck with that combination 😊. Thank you for updating. I am glad your channel is growing. 1 tbsp Sodium Percarbonate per load size (2 for med, 3 for large). Add equal amount of super washing soda (arm & hammer). For spot specific stains: Warm water on stain, rub in Fels Naptha soap ($3 from hardware store) and let sit 15 min before washing in the above additives (warm wash!). If it's a complex stain, after Fels Naptha soak (15 min), use an enzyme cleaner like Puracy and let sit 30-60 min before washing.

So, I’ve been doing my own research on eco friendly, zero plastic laundry detergent and I have watched two of your videos. This one where you review the eco roots sheets. The other video I think is more recent and you expose the laundry sheet companies for using micro plastic poly alcohols in their products. Have you found a laundry sheet brand as of yet that doesn’t use plastic in their product? I’ve looked at Blueland and they’re fairly expensive and reviews I’ve seen have not been great for stain removal and this product is unscented. Part of the joy of doing laundry for me, is the clean smell of freshly washed laundry coming out of the dryer or off the clothes line.take away stain removal as well as fresh scent and you have stained clothes and a joyless mundane chore:( That makes me sad.

i got a few recs in the comments of that laundry sheet videeo but it only recently came out. I plan on trying to find some sheet brands that are truly plastics free for review #4!
