Following a visit to urgent care, I decided to make a salmon-asparagus taco and a red-white-and-blue dessert taco to try to lower my blood pressure. Salmon has Omega-3 fatty acids, which the American Heart Association reports can reduce blood pressure. Asparagus contributes to weight loss by being low in calories and high in fiber; and losing weight can also help reduce blood pressure. Also, the citrus juices in the flavored butter contain hesperidin which can benefit heart health.
Salmon and Asparagus taco recipe:
1. Season a salmon filet with brown sugar, salt, lemon pepper, cumin, and oregano.
2. Grill salmon and asparagus on a non-stick grill mat over direct heat.
3. Baste with a mixture of citrus juice and butter.
4. Serve on a tortilla, garnish as desired.
The berries in the dessert taco contain anthocyanins, which can lower blood pressure. Additionally, a study has shown that people who consume yogurt, such as the low-fat vanilla yogurt used here, have lower systolic blood pressure than those who do not.
Red, White, and Blue dessert taco recipe:
1. Coat a warm tortilla with non-fat vanilla yogurt.
2. Add blueberries and strawberry slices.
