Here is my review of the Loxjie P20 tube amplifier. Sadly this little tube amplifier isn't for me. I like the build and that it is balanced but it just doesn't do it for me as a tube amplifier. I am sure I am in the minority when it comes to my thoughts of the Loxjie P20 but it is what it is. Everybody has different ears and preferences and the P20 isn't for my ears.

I am so glad you posted your review of P20. I have the same conclusion as you do. I bought P20 about 1 year ago and I paired many of my headphones (from $80 to $1600) with P20. I found the major issue with P20 is that the clarity and dynamic of high frequency treble sounds are removed/reduced and the low frequency sounds are muddy and interfering with mids. I spent another 70$ to acquire different tubes, hoping to solve the issue but proved unsuccessful. My red P20 now sits on my counter as a red paper weight. I should have returned it within 30 days. But maybe someday I will find the right match and find some use of it. I thought I had a faulty P20 but I started to see more and more honest reviews like yours to confirm that is just the sound nature of P20 which is definitely not for me. Thanks again for sharing.

Yes, the P20 is a different sound for sure and it just lacks clarity and detail and dynamics in the mids and treble. I have other tube amps and love them very much. So it isn't that I don't like tube amp sound, I just don't like the P20. Maybe you can sell your P20 on the used market, they seem to be well liked. You are welcome for the honest review. I have it for about a year now and I agree with most of the criticism, but not really with what you said about the sound. GIven, I've upgrade the power supply and got a nice pair of matched soviet tubes (easy to get here in the EU). They are a dream match for my 6XX which I just used balanced - yes the SE is a bit weak (weaker than the SE out on my smsl m500).

I replaced the tubes with Soviet 6N3s tubes made in 1979. Made no real difference in sound until about 30 seconds into listening when one of them cracked and failed. Then their was a clear complete loss of volume on the right side, which even my ears noticed. I have mixed feelings for this amp. I don't really have mixed feelings about soviet consumer valves from my childhood: they suck.

That's a bummer. Did the valve failure damage the amp? Sadly the P20 just didn't cut it for me. I returned it and will look for a replacement.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Nah. It just was a pain to remove. I do want to stress that I noticed NO difference in sound with the tube change to the Ukraine tubes. I believe that the Chinese tubes were made on the same equipment and in the exact same way. There may be improvement with going with GE tubes, but these are getting very hard to find, and this little amp, good value though it may be, isn't worth it.

@@TheHonestAudiophile One other thought: I have a Mackie Big Knob monitor controller between the Enog2 PRO and the Loxjie P20, which I use to control volume and switch between it and the Speakers. This gives me much finer control on this amp, which lacks a gain setting, and really needs one.

I have the ifi nano black label s line balance out to the loxjie p20. Using balanced xlr hd 650 and i found it better than the schiit vali 2. Modi 2

I’ve got the unit. Waiting for my Riverstone platinum tubes to come in. Then my balanced cable for my SEN hd 700. Can’t wait for next week to tell you guys about it. Also ordered another adapter for it too. So let’s see after the mods if I can get awesome sound.

I returned my P20 as I could barely hear any difference between this and my computer headphone output, I was going balanced from a focusrite 2i4 I'm using Sendy Aivas and mangird tea iem's

I'd recommend one of the following amplifiers: Geshelli Labs Archel Schiit Audio Heresy JDS Labs Atom If you don't already have one, I also recommend a DAC: Grace Design SDAC Geshelli Labs J2

Would a balanced dac help? Because the 1990dt is single ended.

@@silviocordero9248 A balanced DAC will feed the balanced Loxjie P20 amp and you'll be able to use both xlr and se outputs but you will only reap the benefits of balanced with a balanced headphone connection.

@JDHgunner I recommend that you use a DAC along with the Loxjie P20. A balanced output DAC like the Grace Design sdac-b would be a good fit.

Just got it and paired it with the Sony mdr z7 and jesus I love og buttery smooth the bass gets and I definitely get a soundstage increase, I absolutely love warmth though so that's prop a factor also didn't notice any loss in clarity with these headphones, if anything I heard things I never noticed before. I feel like it just makes everything "pleasant to listen to" and fucks with the sound a lot, and that's exactly what I was looking for :)

I had one of these but literally couldn't hear any difference between it, my audio interface, and straight from my imac... Now I just buy headphones 😆

I love the Cavalli Tube Hybrid CTH, the Dark Voice tube amp is another great option. If your looking for a DAC the Grace Design sdac pairs well with both amps. An integrated DAC/AMP option would be the Monoprice Monolith THX AAA 788. Also Geshelli Labs Enog 2 Pro and Archel 2 make a fantastic pairing with the HD600.

Hey I saw your review on the sennheiser hd 700 review and bought myself one but don’t know what amp to get. Should I get the Loxjie P20 tube amp or the schiit magni 3+ for Sennheiser HD 700?

I havent heard the HD700 or P20 in a long time. I haven't heard the Magni 3+. I'd lean more to tube amp and then a DAC like the Geshelli Labs JNOG or the Grace Design SDAC-B.

I just got the Focusrite Scarlett and Beyerdynamic P770 Pro 80ohm headphones for my birthday. I had done more research on the Scarlett than the headphones. Anyway, the headphones are just too quiet when I want to play drums. Yes, my ears are already destroyed from playing in very loud bands for 25 years. But, my Koss Porta Pro headphones are louder. Any recommendations for an amp that will properly drive the 80ohm headphones so I can hear music over my playing?

Hey. I got dt880 250 ohms and bought this p20 for now but im thinking of sending it back. Problem is that ive got a Audio Interface (ni komplete audio) and just need an amp. Here in germany because of corona all good amps like jds atom, liquid spark, shiit arent available, not to say that you have to pay a big premium for these american amps anyway...any idea what else there is? Was looking at fiios but honestly i dont like the bus powered ones

There's all sorts of amplifier companies Fiio, Topping, SMSL, xDuoo, Aune. I start searching with those brands and see what peaks your interest.

I just received some balanced cables and I plugged it into the P20. I have balanced outputs connected to a balanced DAC. Everything seems to be connected correctly but, I'm getting no sound into the headphones. I think I have to move the input selector. Correct? I also need to move the output selector, is that right? I came back to your video to check it out but I find your explanation of little confusing. Could you please explain that again?

Xlr output from DAC to xlr input on amp. Then you would select your input on your amp to be xlr. Make sure your DAC output is set correctly to xlr. Plug in headphones and hit play.

Thanks to Farsil the Wizard, here is another explanation. the P20 needs to be set to out to 1, and the in to 1 1 is balanced, 2 is SE to select it, you click on the amp and rotate to 1, then click again, then rotate to 1 again. that should do it""

@Ismael Gomez You would want a balanced dac, Geshelli Enog 2 Pro, and balanced XLR cables. I also recommend changing out the tube.

Dude, replace the tubes and stop complaining. Also get the IFi power supply, vast improvement. It’s $99 man, come on. For about $60 with better Russian 6N3 equivalents and the IFi power supply, it sounds better. Much better!
