A day playing offroad with the Land Rover Discovery 3 at Tong. Organized by disco3.co.uk members. Video doesn't do justice to angles of inclines and roughness of terrain. The D3 also makes it look easy.
I have a 2006 LR3 HSE. It's all Land Rover, believe me. Two weeks ago my wife and I took 4 hours to travel 6 miles alone the Banie Mine Road near Prescott, AZ. I had it in Rock Crawl all the way. It may look a little fluffy, but it's all Land Rover. Believe me, I have the pin stripes to prove it.
That's the joy of cross linked air suspension. When you want to do the school run it sits low and normal, but when you want to cross fields, forge rivers or climb rocks, you twist a dial and it jacks up.
Here in AZ we don't have a whole lot of mud. In fact it against the law to drive back and forth threw it. Here things get a little like the Twilite Zone. My first 4x4 was a Toyta FJ-40's. I loved the first one and hated the New and Improved one. I had the first one for 2 radiators, 3 clutches, 2 steering boxes and a rear end. I loved it. I'm 64 now and that LR3 with AC rides smooth.
are they? I used to work for Land Rover some time back, all the mechanics were grumbling about land rover leaving it's roots. Good to know, I always loved driving those things around. The discovery II and defender were badass, the range rover was like mad insane offroad. I got myself a Toyota FJ recently and love it to death, it reminds me of those.
Noticed only 2 vehicles had raised air intake on too, plus the hill decent just seem to lock up the wheels on muddy decent !! Fantastic site is Tong used to go on regulal basis until some little towrag stole my Landy !!
lol...the LR3 actually has many more off-road capabilities equipped than the previous years...I can see what your saying though because it lost it's rugged utilitarian looks; now it looks futuristic and as if it should not be deep in the woods four-wheeling...but it still is tough and can pull through...it's just doing it while looking "pretty"! lol
Ha ha ha, I'm like you...seriously considering a 2005-2006 model!! There isn't a huge difference from those models to 2012- They say the LR4 isn't a new model, just a continuation from the LR3...I mean think about it, it's not a massive change to deem it a "new model". I'm concerned with liability too, that's why a good long warranty is imperative!!!
what about reliability of LR3 2006/07 and its diesel efficiency? I'm thinking to buy a used one since I cant afford the new 2012 model :( any input will be much appreciated
@Hobbydude1974 O hellllll yeah. I had an 88 bronco, I hit a telephone pole and reversed and drove it away with no damage, same cannot be said for the Rover. And not to mention Ford as the best truck out by far.....THE RAPTOR!!!!!
Everyone is forgetting the real issue of land rovers. Its not that they are not good off road. Its the fact they have the worst reliability issues of any company since Yugo.
Grandizer 45 ciao I have a 1996 N reg and love it have spent so much on it 6 inch lift snorkel guards and roof tent LPG gas I've spent ££££ on it and love it
