The LS motors can be tricky to "burp" all the air out after filling the cooling system. Vacuum filling the cooling system helps eliminate any air pockets.

Good video explanation. Hints: draw air into hose from bucket first. 2) before adding extra coolant to bucket turn off valve so you do not get air into line which could add an air lock

Just pulled coolant through one of my cars after an 'air lock' situation attempting to simply refill by pouring in the coolant. This tool was a total game changer and I was equally surprised at the fill speed. Got me back on the road. You do.need.to watch the level due to heater core/thermostat side but easy enough to top up.

Good idea to have the heater on full heat to open the core for a full vacuum/fill. If you mentioned it, I missed it. Nice video.

Based off this video I bought the Harbor Freight Maddox cooling system test and refill kit $80. I was able to get it down to -20 psi and following the directions. Filled the system with no issues. I also had air in my system and no other procedures worked.

Yea definitely give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with it. And the C10 with an LS3 swap sounds awesome!!

Yea I'm a sucker for a new tool. And it worked amazingly well. I need to do a coolant change on my F150 soon, so hopefully I'll get another chance to use it.

How would you burp the system if you didn’t have this tool and doing a complete refill?
@js6752
@js6752 4 года назад
Great video - after the first fill, couldn’t you just top it off without having to pull more vacuum? At that point I would think all the areas you’d be concerned about would be full

Is this also a way to remove all the bubbles from the system to where it is safe to run a throttle body and radiator steam pipe line delete? So many opinions on deleting the rad and tb lines
@ScrufsGarage
@ScrufsGarage 6 лет назад
If you are doing a complete fill, then yes it would work for pulling all of the air out of the system. If you are only partially draining the system, or just trying to get a trapped air pocket out, then I'm not sure it would work for that. I have the TB coolant lines deleted, no issues there. I personally feel that the steam vent lines are beneficial. I actually have another video where I added the rear steam vent lines to my new motor. (mine originally had the rear steam ported blocked off).

I was a little confused about the need to re-vacuum the system. Does this pull a lot of coolant back out? Are we just creating a vacuum in the reservoir at that point, or does it get trapped air out from other places?

My air supply is lubricated so do I have to worry about the in-line lubricator getting oil into the system?
@ScrufsGarage
@ScrufsGarage 6 лет назад
No, the tool uses a venturi effect to draw vacuum on the system. So no air from your air line is entering the system.

Can this be used to bleed the system if you already have coolant in the car, I just drained all my old coolant and refilled it with new and I want to make sure there is no air in the system
@ScrufsGarage
@ScrufsGarage 6 лет назад
Hmm, good question. I think if the system is already full, then I'm not sure it would be able to pull out an air pocket trapped somewhere. If you try it, definitely let me know how it works out.

I used one to help pull coolant out of a rear heater core in a minivan during a fluid flush, managed to suck most of the old stuff back to the radiator. But the system was already mostly empty. The issue is how much fluid is in the container you are sucking the vac on, and where it is in relation to the air pocket. look for a bleeder on the top of the block. or just do the old school burping method to coax the bubbles out.

Please help...Just did my 07 f150 4.6. Replaced the water pump and t stat. Removed the t stat and upper rad hose. Ran garden hose in the degas till water ran clear out the top rad hose. Did same for heater core and rad. Pressurized system, held 16psi. Drained rad, hooked up coolant vacuum, vacuum held but was slowly coming down. (Figured it might be not a tight seal). Only sucked up 1 gallon of 50/50 and now resivoir is to the cold fill line. Haven't started the engine yet because I'm replacing power steering lines and haven't put the fun clutch and shroud back on to give me more room for the ps lines. Why would it not take the full amount approximately 2.5 gallons??
@ScrufsGarage
@ScrufsGarage 5 лет назад
It sounds like you still have an air pocket. After you pull vacuum, it should maintain the vacuum pressure. If it's bleeding down, you've got a leak somewhere. That vacuum is what draws coolant into the system, but if you leak air in, then you get air in the system and it won't completely fill with coolant.

Yes I was using a small pancake style compressor at the time. It worked fine.

How does this work when thermostat is closed.?
@ScrufsGarage
@ScrufsGarage 4 года назад
The cooling system is a loop so vacuum pulls from both sides of the thermostat.

I see one outstanding problem with this setup. The design and idea is good, BUT it seems to me that when you drop the tubing into the bucket of coolant and open the valve to fill the system, the air that was in the tubing has nowhere to go and goes into the engine, which is what you were trying to prevent in the first place. There needs to be a way to remove the air from the tubing, OR fill the tubing with coolant. Perhaps a small bleeder valve installed where the tubing goes into the device would do the trick.
@anthonysova7117
@anthonysova7117 3 года назад
Ur the only person who gets it. Think that setup should have a 3rd ball valve This setup defeats the purpose of evacuating air Cheers
