It's going to be pushed into law soon if not already. The law makes sure that only "marked" units can do traffic stops (current pd's get around this by almost transparent markings) because anyone can get a crown Vic, put lights in, pull someone over, kidnap and do terrible things to them. The law should be put in place across the United States.

The only requirement to a police vehicle to make a traffic stop is for it to have blue/red lights and/or a siren. CHP is not authorized to use unmarked cars for only traffic stops. Though it is not the most common practice for an unmarked vehicle to stop for a minor traffic violation it can occur as long as the police vehicle has the criteria stated above.

In Connecticut our state police are unmarked. Mostly silver, some black, some navy blue, and very rarely maroon. The only ones in CT that are "under cover" that I've seen are dodge chargers. But our state police hasn't ran marked units since the 90s. Local police I never really see unmarked units. Once in a while as a traffic control you'll see a local unmarked or a detective. Or even if all units are called out. But it varies by state. One other thing to note in CT is you can clearly tell if it's a state police car. You can just look up the cars on the web. But yeah. Depending on states/provinces. It's a touchy subject. So technically in some places they aren't allowed to be used and some they are.

I think that on the interstate, you're supposed to call in state police as backup because locals don't have jurisdiction over the highway and can only pursue once the suspect has left the highway OR if they were pursuing before the suspect entered the highway.

In NJ, an unmarked car can pull you over for a traffic violation, but they have to use extra precaution, which means they can’t get into a high speed pursuit if you ditch.

In Hawaii our PD used both marked/unmarked units to do patrol and everything under the sun. However the unmarked units need to have mini light bars in order to be seen when on duty but if they are not on duty the light bars need to be removed and they are unable to do stops.

*sigh* Usually when the car has a flag for "Registered Owner has a felony" or something, you want to conduct a felony stop. Which, if you didn't know, is where you automatically take cover behind your door and have your gun drawn. You order them out of the vehicle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like this is true.

FirstThirtyMinutes Sounds good! In real life they WOULD use their door, but since LSPDFR wouldn't allow that, you'd most likely have to move up to their car to order them out. As you can tell (in this case) the guy did end up evading. Conducting a felony stop can possibly prevent it.

+FirstThirtyMinutes, really great video, I love to see action packed pursuits and will look forward to more of your patrols. About the first suspect you chased, he had a felony warrant and that means he did a crime involving violence so the suspect definitely was dangerous... well in the end he got ran by a car so that was a sad end for this guy in that chase. Btw. in some states you can drive on bike without a helmet, not sure if that is same in California.

You can too make traffic stops in unmarked cars. They're called "Stingers". If someone is telling you anything different, they're probably in a state that does not allow.

My sheriff department has an all black Ford Explorer and it has sheriff in the smallest lettering on the push bar but it also has police license plates.

The laws regarding whether or not unmarked cars can make traffic stops vary by state. If a state has a law against it, a simple way around it is to use ghost graphics. In other words, PDs can use black cars with "police" in dark grey so that it's not easily visible but it's technically marked.

Obviously I'm a bit late, but as far as I know, it has to be marked with Police, along with the municipality, county, or state it is affiliated with in order to conduct traffic stops, as unmarked vehicles are used for undercover operations and therefore are unlawful for use in traffic stops as technically (and very technically I might add) their use can be considered "entrapment", and also I'm pretty sure if you stop, you can still refuse a citation/official warning.

I know that at least in my county we do traffic stops with unmarked units all the time we even have specific Traffic as Dui units that are unmarked completely but that is also Florida

With the exception of New York, the "Police Interceptor" badge on the back of Crown Victorias is NOT considered a police affiliation but rather, a model designation (just an FYI since you mentioned it in the intro). Also, the Crown Vic appears to be an '06-'11 model.

In Massachusetts you are allowed to pull over in a 100% unmarked police car but if they run you can't charge them because they didn't know you were a cop

It depends on the area. I think in Washington, unmarked cars are not allowed for patrols. In my area, Connecticut, state troopers all use unmarked cars.

That CVPI is considered unmarked. The official definitions are (based upon my agencies field manual) Marked: Fully Equipped Police Vehicle with exterior markings and roof emergency lights. Unmarked: A fleet vehicle, similar to a patrol vehicle without exterior decals or roof emergency lights. It may be equipped with a siren and emergency light(s). Non-descript: A vehicle that is used by the department that does not look like a fleet nor a patrol vehicle. It may be equipped with a siren and emergency light(s). Note: Unmarked vehicles will NOT be used for routine precinct patrol duties, unless as a last resort when no other marked vehicle is available. May be used by a supervisor, when necessary. May be used by precinct personnel for special assignments.

Unmarked Cars are aloud to do stops as long as the officer inside the vehicle is in a full police uniform but its up to the agency policies not all agency have the same policies to be honest.

Unmarked units CANNOT pull over people. That HAS to be done by a MARKED unit. Marked units are regonizable and an unmarked unit simply isn't.

Hey, I figured I'd give you a heads up that a town/city needs to have a high population in order to use only blue lights so it's unlikely you'd see it on a sheriffs patrol car. I just thought it would add some more realism to the gameplay if there wasn't already enough:)

So, I hope it's not too late to comment on your videos. If you were wondering about technicalities of traffic stops in CA in an unmarked car, I can't really answer that. What I can tell you is that there is no national case law that prohibits it. In my state (Kansas) we can do traffic stops in anything, even for traffic, so long as we have lights and a siren. If you're looking or technicalities of your stops though I would comment that, on the first stop for example (the stop sign), you committed a crime as well. You ran the stop sign as well. To be totally legit you would have needed to A. either make a complete stop before following him, or B. activate your lights and siren before disregarding the stop sign. Having said that, this is pretty cool. I just found your channel last night. Is there a tutorial of what all I need to get this rolling on my computer? I assume GTA5, and then these mods? Thanks!
