this is the guy i want working on my guitars. actually giving a shit. id pay twice as much and wait twice as long, gladly, to have someone work on guitars like this. youre awesome dood
Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last few days xD
THAT IS THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. NOT JUST GIVE THEM $200 AND THEY DO NOTHING AND YOUR MIND WILL BELIEVE OR WANT TO BELIEVE AFTER YOU PAY THEM THOUGH.
I have to say the care you took on this is awesome I had one put on my player series strat when I bought it, my guitar guy seemed reluctant not because he was nervous to do it but He though I was destroying the guitar he asked me if I was sure I wanted this and I never regret doing this to my strat made using tremolo fun! Especially when it stays in tune after bending the shit out of it! And the sustain is better than when I got it with a shit plastic nut that kept grabbing the strings and sticking horribly I know that could have been fixed easy but I wanted to try this out. You are a man of your craft great job on this installation!
I loved this video! I'm about to install a roller nut on my new Fender Player Plus Top and you gave me a lot of confidence that I can do it. I have two junk Squires that I got at pawn shops real cheap to practice on. Was going to do it the way you did it but then ordered a StewMac router base but now I am not going to use the router as jigging it up will take more work. I've got a few more tools on order from StewMac and hope to take the plunge next week. It really helped to see the fret work being done. Seeing it in action makes it easier to visualize what I am reading in StewMac's Fret Work book.
You had me at "lubing the saw" haha nice job...I am interested in installing one of these on a new build, prob be easier with an angled headstock and no string retainers
I'll just keep this real simple man ...... Great job on that neck man !!!! Seriously !!! The nut, the dressing, both top notch !!! I would be mighty proud and pleased as heck with myself if I did the job that you did on that neck !! Dam, you're good man !!!
Thank you so much -I live in a small community where almost everyone I know is musical. It keeps me busy. Thanks again......Nice receiving kind words on the internet.
Awesome video. I have to tell you that I’m smoking a lot cause at certain times for some reason (I think your upward pitch at the end of some sentences, and overall lighthearted tone) - you reminded me so much of Mr. Roger’s!! If you would have said “boys and girls” I think I would have spit my coffee laughing. Omg.
I ONLY LET ONE PERSON WHERE I LIVE WORK ON MY GUITAR. AND THERE ARE AT LEAST 30 LUTHIERS WHERE I LIVE. BUT I WOULD LET YOU WORK ON MY AMERICAN FENDERS ANY DAY. YOU WON ME WHEN YOU PUT THE GUITAR NECK SIDE WAYS LIKE WE PLAY AND THEN PUT IT INTONATION. !!!!!!!!!!✌✌✌✌
Question: I'm pretty sure that Japanese Strat has a vintage-spec 7.25 inch radius fretboard (you can see that it's pretty rounded). But the LSR nut is designed for the flatter 9.5 inch radius on modern strats. How do you get around this? Do you just have to accept less than ideal action at the nut? (Outside E strings too high to avoid open-string buzz on D & G).
Quick question Jamie, what should the distance be from the front edge of the roller nut to the 1st fret? I saw you measuring that with the width of a ruler but no numbers were mentioned. Thank you. SB
From the fretboard side of the LSR nut to the centre of the first fret on my 25.5" scale Strat ,I eyeball 1.330". I would check with LSR for an exact measurement . I measured to the centre of the first fret because guitars have many fret widths , so this is the only right way to go about it. Thanks for watching !!!
Excellent video! I wish I watched it before I started trimming/shaving away the fretboard. I filed it too far down!! Do you have any suggestions on how to fill the gap?
Thanks. If you make reference to the string trees, these Graph tech ones are really slippery.graphtech.com/products/tusq-xl-sleek-string-trees?variant=40530144788503
@@Barringtonjohnbruce those are fantastic. That’s what I had. Only concern is the one closest to nut had too sharp of an angle. Maybe if I installed a little washer or shim to raise it a bit.
@@Barringtonjohnbruce dig your channel Jamie! Subscribed! I own a 2001 Big Apple Strat of same color scheme as your profile photo. Just installed a Sophia 2:22 tremolo on it with a brass block. The guitar sings like never before and tuning stability is as good, if not better than a locked Floyd.
@@paulauksztulewicz4803 Wow those Sophia Bridges look NASA engineered ! I've never known anyone with one. Thanks for the testimonial. I'm definitely going to have to research those. Here is a vid with me using that guitar . It's a Warmoth brand that I assembled.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XNqMyaG4VZ0.html
DON'T YOU FLATEN THE ROUND PART OF THE FRET WHEN YOU SAND TO LEVEL THEM. I KNOW YOU DRESS THEM UP. BUT LOOKS LIKE TO ME IT FLATTEN THEM TO MUCH. I HAVE MINE PLEKED. FOR $200 FUN TICKETS. BUT YOU DO GOOOOOD WORK. I ONLY KNOW 6 LUTHIERS LIKE YOU. AND I HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES.
Please, if the fretboard has a radius how to set the nut to the same radius as the fretboard? Or maybe it stays flat at the "0" fret position? Thank you
I’ve read that string trees aren’t necessary, and hinder the function of a roller. (I can’t compare because my stretch plus didn’t come with string trees.)
Hey there! I just bought a second hand stratocaster deluxe with this bridge installed from factory. Would you happen to know what type of cleaning or maintenance is required to have it working correctly? thanks!
I assume it has to do with the ball bearings, and the take off point. Where the strings take off from the ball bearings, and the ball bearings have to be held in a holder , the distance from the centre of the ballbearing to the edge of its holder must be compensated for. If you'd like to change an existing LSR nut to something different, I believe Earvana nuts make a replacement to fit this wider nut channel. Thanks for watching
@@Barringtonjohnbruce Thanks. That makes sense. I probably should have done a bit more install research before purchasing one. Live and learn. THANKS, Craig
Yes on a 10 -16 compound should be fine. It's real purpose is certainly for them guitars .but should also keep better tuning for your hardtail as well. So many choices for us.
wow greaqt job bud how have you been enjoying it would you recomend this upgradei also noticed your vernier was master craft your a fellow canadian where about are you im in london ontario.my name is tim by the way.
Hi Tim. This guitar belongs to one of my former guitar students and he does enjoy this alteration. I have a LSR nut on my '97 Strat and It has offered me no issues - It's a great nut. I'm from Yarmouth Nova Scotia -Great observation with the Canadian Tire tool.. Thanks for watching.
You are a walking/talking advertisement for StewMac! You must be worth a billion dollars. They charge way too much. Sure, I have some of theirs too, but I've found alternatives, either other suppliers or making my own. That said, you do good work.
Metal shims are included when purchasing a LSR roller nut . They come in .005" and and .010" I believe. So incase you cut the nut slot too low these will shim it back up. .010" is the size of a small e string and .005" is a little thicker than a standard sheet of paper.
Jamie Surette Jamie, if i cut properly I don”t need apply anything...? Question is how deep I should go... I want to leave the same level of that saddle space. I’m guitar player for the 30 years, I don’t want to do any mistake. Thank u for your help. Greetings from Ireland
@@slopiecki Hi ! On that guitar I only took the centre down to where the edges where already cut by fender. - Basically I flattened out the fingerboard's nut radius, but didn't go any deeper than what you see on the bass and treble sides .That's when I put the white pencil marks on each edge of the nut slot. That worked great on that guitar. Yours may go that well or may need adjustments ,But that would be a good starting point .
Hi Jamie, I had a Fender roller nut installed several years ago and thought that all was well. However, now that I'm playing with a band, I've been having tuning problems. The bottom three strings are the problem and when I looked closer I noticed that things didn't look right. The top three wound strings sit on the bearings like they're supposed to. The bottom three strings sit on the shaft between the bearings. The bearings for the bottom three strings are doing absolutely nothing. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? I'm even open to the idea of replacing the nut with something else.
That will never play in tune. And it wont be long until those little rubber bushings wear out, or catch a snag and the whole thing falls apart. If it didnt come with one , it will never play in tune..
some ppl just need all the shit stewwrack sells :D even the dumbest things......the time you take to bolt it down to your fancy jig i have 2 guitars set up 100%
