LSU head women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey spoke with the media where she talked about getting her team right, Sunday's home game with Florida and the state of women's college basketball revenue and much more.
Flau'jae Johnson is the reason I watch women's basketball. I seen her on a few tv shows as a young rapper, by the time I checked back in she was hooping in high school as a senior. havent missed one of her games since.
Caitlyn Clark made me start watching women's college basketball there is nobody that's elevated with college basketball for women in Clark Wherever She Goes and plays and other team stadiums they sell out the best in my country the differences difference between Clarke and Reese the countries following Clark this is a person of color saying it..😅
I’ve played and followed basketball my whole life. I became a diehard fan of the Lady Gamecocks b/c of Coach Dawn Staley and Aliyah Boston. I still follow Aliyah in the WNBA. She’s phenomenal! I like LSU as well. I started watching them because of Angel Reese and Flau’jah. LSU basketball is exciting to watch and I love it. As Kim said, they sell out arenas wherever they go. If I lived closer, I’d go see them in person. I was happy to see them beat Iowa in the championship game. However, I firmly believe my Lady G’s will win it this year. If they don’t, I’m fine with LSU or Tennessee winning. TBH, I’d love to see my Alma mater(University of Arkansas)win, but that’s just a dream. For now. 😉 Caitlin is overrated. Yes, she scores a lot of points but she’s a ball hog. That annoys me. Basketball is a team sport not an individual sport. Seriously, let other people on your team shoot. People love to compare CC to Angel which is ridiculous. They play two different positions. If we want to compare, the better comparison is to another point guard. You know who is a much better player than CC? JuJu Watkins. Barring injury, she will smash any record Clark gets this year and she’s only a freshman.
I can't help but think about how big of an impact Sa'myah Smith would have had in the South Carolina game, she really would have helped especially with Angel being in foul trouble.
Man what! When she hurt herself in the Islands I was HURT! I think her and MK would’ve been a good duo. And what made it sadder was she was practicing all summer and making a great improvement to her game 😢
@@taronandreaaaa exactly, that's what crushed me as well, she put in a lot of work in the summer and came back looking incredible, this was gonna be her break-out season. Wish her a speedy recovery.
@August Yeah. Great Loss for sure. They would have been unstoppable with her explosiveness, and 10-12 foot shot. They'll just have to find away to get Del Rosario; Kent (and maybe) Velez to make up for her enormous loss. But I think they can do it, if Mulkey's goes to an 8 woman rotation with Del Rosario; Poa; Kent, and maybe Velez for defensive pressure, change of pace.
I’m flying from Pittsburgh to Nashville next week to see this lady and her lady Tigers. And I’ve only been a fan since watching them in March Madness last year. The economic impact of this team is impossible to accurately measure!

@1toughplayer Mulkey, needs to figure out HVL's not a real point guard, and she has to structure her team in a way to where she's more a scorer and relieve her from running the offense, if not her ball handling.
But they aren't producing when they are in... so to put them in against big teams it just wouldn't be good! Our bench is a lot freshmen and sophomores besides poa....
@SS-wq4ky I feel you, but she has to ease them into the rotation. Or else they are going to lose early in the tournament. She pull Poa out so fast it don't even count and they have no true point.

Griner had a strained relationship with former Baylor coach Kim Mulkey after she left the school. Mulkey said that it was a requirement for a player to have graduated to have her jersey retired. Griner got her degree in 2019.
@aaronnelson1191 Britney probably was the best player she coached.Her #42 jersey is being retired on the 18th of this month. I doubt is she show up. She never reached out to Britney while she was in prison. I think she is still jealous of Britney because the spotlight was always on Britney rather than Kim. LSU gangsta squad is wearing Kim out. LSU wasn't the best team last year.. They just got lucky I'm the tournament.
The girls, for whatever reason, are gassed after a quarter or two. Their stamina sucks or they're being run to death in practice. Either way, the bench needs to play, if for no other reason than to give the starters a breather. I think Kim is a horrible strategist. The Valez question was valid coz she should be starting as the point guard. Period.

Master class in lowering the expectations. This team was preseason number 1 and picked to win it all . They still may but it’s unlikely not because of HVL or the starters but because the subs is so undeveloped enough to contribute.
I'm a CT resident and long time UCONN fan. In CT who isn't? Anyway, I so much admire Coach Mulkey and have watched her successes over the years. If I were much younger, I would love to play on a team she coaches. Thank you coach Mulkey for all that you do to advance women's basketball.

With LSU, they're all on the same team, following a championship to boot on a current "Super team (on paper/starting 5)". Actually, HVL was a point guard all through high school AND on the USA FIBA Under teams. She ran point second behind Paige Bueckers on the USA teams, but she played the point guard there. Don’t matter who runs point, if they’re being face guarded by a great defender like HVL was by Fulwiley of SC, they can’t do anything except just getting the ball to someone not guarded so tough.
@frankiek2269 Playing Pg at this level is a bit different than high school, tho. She's slow, and her handle is weak. She has struggled all season, not just the SC game.
Angel Reese needs to develop her mid range jumper.... If she has that in her bag she will be unstoppable in the paint.... She is a beast hitting the glass but needs to kick the ball out to her shooters from time to time. Let's go Tigers

Once I a lifetime performance from Jasmine Carson. That girl won the game, then Alexis Morris killing it in the 4th Quarter. You'll be hard pressed to replicate. Zero chemistry, swollen heads, huge egos... Plus as defending champions target is squarely front and center. Good luck
Everyone forgets it just her 3rd year at lsu..yes incredibly experienced coach but just 3rd year..produced so far by turning around a losing program to what 20 plus wins first year, 2nd year national championship 3rd year a winning season and who knows.. Most of the team should return next year plus smith and some recruits/ transfers..

So what's the excuse for teams who after a rough road game, board a plane (or bus), get back home after midnight, and have an 8:30 class first thing in the morning?? Oh, they got back late and they need to rest.....poor things!! No, not in the real world. As college athletes, most don't have that option. They are expected to do their homework, go to class, keep their grades at a certain level, and go to practice. They have many expectations thrust on them as collegiate athletes. Whether it's visiting kids in the children's hospital, helping at a food bank, or any number of things to fulfill their obligations as the face of a university, they still have to go to practice. But you're right, I'm not there so I don't have a clue.
@@misterceo2168 that's true per my knowledge. But Kim should consider rotating positions if she wants to go deep this year. You cannot learn point in one year. You just can't. Not at this level.
@@galenstone9097 I’ve come to the conclusion that HVL just isn’t an elite player, she can’t dribble and she can shoot but it’s a slow release. Louisville is 18-3 and 1st place in the ACC. They don’t even miss their supposed best player
@@misterceo2168 She was their best scorer for a very good reason. But not every great shooter is capable of being Kyrie. I think she is a very good player. It is impossible to become a point guard at this level so late in life. Put her at #2 and make Flau or MK the point.

Nah they're biggest problem is there is their no synergy to their offense because they don't have a legit point guard fully capable of running Kim Mulkey's actual offense 🤷🤷
Why does this coach spend so much time stomping on the court. During the Miss State game she was standing on the three point line when her team had the ball. Why no technical? She does this every game. Keep your butt in the sidelines.
Defense is not the problem every game they loss wasn't because of defense its because they keep forcing the ball into Reese and Morrow everybody is playing us like Iowa played SC last year and we miss Smith and definitely miss Poole but we still good just have to take advantage of every opportunity we are fortunate to get how is defense the problem when the games you loss you allowed 76 points not making free throws an missing layups and open 3s is why we loss the games we have loss except for Colorado we just were over confident against Colorado. the players are not robots, days off this time of year is great, especially with how grueling the next four weeks are going to be…two days off after a loss like that is a great thing. it let’s those girls sit on the loss.
This team is not polished, they have so much talent but folks gotta realize it's a growing process. We are 18-4...that is an accomplishment. I have no doubt queen mulkey will have them ready for the tournament. I'd be shocked if we don't at least get to the elite 8...
Some of the girls in college women basketball need to check their diet... Some are a bit on the heavy side that's why they get injured. Just say, they are student athletes so need to make adjustments to ensure optimum performance

@@galenstone9097It has nothing to do with color but accountability! HVL is a point guard so she controls the tempo. Just like a quarterback controls the game and tempo. So being sensitive because she is one of the main reasons we are not playing well in addition to her poor defense!

Coach Mulkey was a star player and is a Championship winning coach. She knows that the starting 5 needs to play less minutes. The fact that they don't lets me know that her bench is farther behind the curve than we thought. †
Big 4 has shown no interest this year in being a player maker. So moving her to the one is trying to do the same as HVL. She is going to be thinking (like she does now) & miss the post(like she does now).
