This video was from a cycle in June this year and for this one I decided to look at a low traffic neighbourhood in the north of Glasgow that has been in place for more than 20 years. I did make a short video at the time about this and I thought it was pretty cool that all the streets are named after trees. After I went to the site of where the Possil meteorite landed (the fist recorded meteorite in Scotland BTW) to have a look. It's in a nature reserve and there is a rock that is supposed to be the size of the actual meteorite with information on it. Then I went along the forth and Clyde canal to see and attempt to explore what looked like an interesting tunnel (on old maps that I had been studying) that goes under the canal. After this i went to Tesco Maryhill to explore and look for the remains of what was Maryhill central railway station and the surrounding infrastructure and i try to picture what it must have looked like all those years ago.

Great video - one of your best- really informative with the old map inserts. Will follow these routes when I'm next visiting Gl;asgow.

The Halloween Pend was infamous over the years as the meeting point for two rival gangs, the Cadder young team v the Barnes road, scary place! Great video, keep up the good work 👍

Keep up the good work, great use of the old maps for bridging the then and now. I find your videos really useful for giving me ideas and new routes to cycle when I am up in Glasgow visiting my sons. Many times I have passed Lambhill on the canal but never really seen it from above and would never have known of the tunnel’s continued existence. If ever you an accomplice on your travels give me a message👍😉

Could have done with someone to hold my hand going through that tunnel 😂

Brilliant video, really informative and well put together! It's like a video from the Whitwicks. On LTNs I remember when I first heard of them and thought "well how much good can that be, surely you do all the Proper™ infrastructure first?" but the more I learned about them the more I realised they're like the number 1 thing we can be doing to reduce pollution, car use and increase active travel, they're so good. Closest thing we have to a golden bullet and all you need is some boards

Just had a wee look at the Whitwicks channel and I had to subscribe. With LTNs I’ve noticed that the connecting Woodside is going to use them and already has. I was also initially disappointed with them but now I can really see how they are going to transform areas and are probably going to play a big part in delivering the city network.

Very good. I see the tunnel is marked on Google maps as "Halloween Pend"

That's great, I loved every minute along with the tongue in cheek comments but most of all you are so spot on that the benefits of LTNs far outweigh the one downside - denying drivers in a hurry the right to accelerate and brake (causing poor air quality in equal measure) down the old rat runs to save themselves no time in the long run. And full marks for going back to the tunnel and lugging your bike through it 🙌

Brilliant video! I love discovering links to the past but the tunnel would be a tunnel too far for me. Well done going through there with cleats and wearing shorts 🤣

Mad seeing u go through the Halloween Pend. Crapped maself going through it a while back. Theres another old railway tunnel under the canal near Maryhill locks which i assume linked back to Maryhill Central and ran to Dawsholm. Went to a rave in it a while back. Its amazing inside.

Was at a rave in an old railway tunnel near the old transport museum a good few years ago. It was epic.

Thanks, really enjoyed this one. Interesting about all the stations. Wouldn't have fancied going through the tunnel though, that took some guts! Did you know when the Possil meteor landed it caused millions of pounds of improvements to the area? 😀

2:00 thing about this former rat-run and the LTN you cycled around, is that you don't have people in these streets campaigning for the roads to be open again, which just goes to show what the residents prefer (and that people eventually get used to the changes).

I posted that before I watched the end of the video. Fair play to you for doing it and taking your cycle through as well.

After exiting the tunnel you got onto the old 9-hole Ruchill golf course. Where did you go from there?
@glasgowcycles

I walked the bike up to what would have been the entry to the golf course I think. Kept checking google maps to find out how to get onto the road. Had to climb a fence at that bit. Then cycled home to get out of my squelchy socks 😂
