I'm just starting a restoration of a water-damaged 1995 Bach. This video is super helpful as I begin diving in!

"Penetration Oil" ... that would be a fun name for a brass band. "Fluffy Pipe Cleaner" could be another one.

The best penetrating oil I can suggest is Kano Kroil It's thinner than Kate Moss and will find its way into absolutely everything. Not available for retail sale where I live, but it can be sourced online with a small amount of effort. WD40 is mostly useless, it's a terrible lubricant, and a relatively terrible penetrating oil. It's best use is for displacing water, hence the "WD" in it's name. (40 was the number of attempts to get the formula right, if I remember correctly).

Alex Paulsen try a gun store. Any decent gun shop would have it.

Hi there, I really enjoy your videos, very useful to me on my very first cornet. As for lube, have you ever tried graphite powder?

May I suggest using a thin resistance band or very wide, heavy-duty rubber band to loosen tight valve nuts, rather than subjecting these delicate components to any potentially damaging hammering? Grasp the nut with a strip of rubber for a better grip when twisting off a tight nut. If that doesn't work, then use the penetration oil. It has worked for me.

I can't get a bottom cap on a valve out, as shown at the first part of the video here. The main tuning slide is also stuck badly. As for what Bryan said: I did have problems removing the other two bottom caps, however, and one of those old flat rubber jar and can opener helpers from the grocery store helped perfectly after a little WD40. Just make sure the surrounding area isn't super oily or you won't get a grip, of course. The caps came off beautifully, unscathed.

I can get the valve out, but it refuses to go back in. The trumpet was playing fine last week, and there is no visible damage to the valve casing. Any suggestions?

Have you gotten a diagnosis from a repair person? It might be good to show a pro and get their opinion in person

What happens if the valve doesn’t click and how do I fix it ? I tried oiling it more, and making sure it was facing the right way but nothing worked. Also, the spring inside the valve, what if it falls out? Is there a certain way to put assemble it back in? PLS HELP ME

If anyone happens to polish their silver trumpet I'd like to know what you use and even the cloth, I saw a few recommendations such as wright's silver polish but I'm not so sure if I should be using that.

Silver jewelry polishing cloths, usually available locally. Use the white side to clean up grime, and the colored side to polish.

+Kaden Keep What have you tried? It might be time to take it to a repairperson if you cannot fix it at home.

Look carefully. The metal hammer has a cork and a silicone cap, which he put on it in an earlier video.

Metal hammer will make more and more scrapes on the bottom ~~Too terrible......You should use Wooden hammer to protect the musician's instruments ... A master repairman sad ~ 95% serious damages on instruments from repairman only 5% from musician !!!

Worst advice possible!!!! The clean work bench is nice. Plus sets a piston on a surface where it’ll easily roll off.
