Luby's Massacre - Interviews with Survivors (1992)

On October 16, 1991. George Hennard, drove his pickup truck through the front window of a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen Texas, where he shot and killed 23 people, and wounded 27 others. Taped just a few months after the tragedy in early 1992, this footage features interviews with survivors Betty May, Suzanna Grazia, and Mary Roberts, as well as police officer Ken Olson and mayor Major Blair.
This footage was taped by director Jim Ruddy for "Entertainment Tonight", and covers the production of and local reaction to an "America's Most Wanted" story on the Luby's massacre. Ruddy's original raw footage has been reedited by the Texas Archive.

Amazed the survivors can speak so coherently about this event only a few months after it occurred. I don't think I would be able to keep myself together

Similar to some survivors of McDonalds massacre in San Diego in 84. I don't know how they kept their composure.

There was a law at the time prohibiting off duty law enforcement officers from carrying their firearms. They had to be locked in their vehicles.

The shooting stopped because the police wounded the shooter, George Hennard, forcing him to take cover in the bathrooms. With one bullet left, Hennard committed suicide, ending his 15 minute rampage and leaving a total of 24 dead, including Hennard. It was the deadliest mass shooting until the Virginia Tech Massacre in 2007.

The guy snapped because the Coast Guard got his Seamens License revoked because of a small amount of Marijuana found in his room. Today it's tolerated. They blew a chance to save lives by denying his appeal to get his Seamans License back. The license deniers are too blame.

He was a fan of James Huberty, the San Ysidro Mcdonalds mass shooter. He was obsessed with the dude and even went to San Ysidro to view the site. He had been in San Diego for a while, in the navy I think.

The Dirtbags have gone out of Business. Luby's had a no carry conceal permit and that should have been your first tip off that you should have not eaten at the S.H. restaurant.

At that time it was Illegal to carry a hand gun in public in the state of Texas. The lady in pink, Suzanna Hupp, had left her own hand gun in the glove compartment of her vehicle because she didn't want to break the law and possibly lose her chiropractor license. In the years following she became politically active and helped push for the change of the law which brought about about the concealed carry permit law. She even became an elected representative in Texas. Now we have permitless and open carry.
