Just heard about this the other day. Been to Killeen a few times. Seems like crimes like these are forgotten over time. I'm glad RU-vid exists, so tragedies like these aren't forgotten
Good friend of mine whom worked in this part of Texas move to Killeen Tx & I knew she worked at that Luby's back in 91. This was the year our daughter was born. I just happen to call couldn't get through then later found out at work she was one of the victims. Never got to tell her I finally had a child & she is healthy & happy. Will never forget that day ever. I was 28 years old my friend was hitting 30. God rest all their souls. Use to work for a Luby's in Arlington Texas but after find this out. I got another job, never went back. They did only have one way in & one way out.
Wow.. This happened on my dad birthday. Sad part about it is my dad had died 4 days before this on October 13th his birthday October 17th... I was no more then 8 years old at the time. Very sad and touching...
My bestfriend mother was killed at Luby. The middle school I went to was across the street from it. Manor Middle school. I haven't ate at Luby's since then.😢
I attended Mayfield High School in Las Cruces NM, in 1973 and had a study hall with George Hennard. I remember talking to him several times, mostly about rock music and do, distinctly remember, that he was really into Blue Oyster Cult(and, no, Blue Oyster Cult music didn't turn him into a mass murderer). When he committed this horrible act and I heard his name, I was wondering if it was the same person, and when I saw his picture, I knew for sure. I don't know what was going on in his life and head at the brief times I talked to him, but something short circuited at some point in time for him to have done this. I also learned that the world isn't so big, that chance encounters with people don't mean that you will never hear, good or bad, about that person again.
Shayne, if you were there, I guarantee you'd rather have a gun that not have a gun. If EVERYONE in that place had a gun, he wouldn't have killed NEAR as many people.
Hey Robert, do you have more news clips of the tragdy? I live only 10 minutes away from the site, and I wanted to see if there is anymore clips of the coverage.
Mr. Christianson along with my dad and employees from PRC were there. They were at a hotel next to it. Mr. Christianson wanted to eat at the buffet at the hotel. Everyone agreed, that decision saved all their lives including my father. I heard my dad talk about it, but I didn't know he was there. Wow! I am so sorry this happened and for the people who lost friends and family members. It's gut wrenching and heart breaking.
This was 7 years after the McDonald's massacre outside San Diego, which prior to this was the worst shooting event. Can't help but think the killer here patterned this after the 1984 killer by targeting a crowded restaurant. I know both their names, they don't need to be mentioned. How many of all the one's afterward aspired to be the new "record-setter" ? You always hear people telling you that times are changing, but they never say they are changing for the better.
@@balagan79985 It's easy to blame the weapon used, because to find the blame there avoids examining the mind behind it, because we may never find answers there. A man in the Bronx in 1990 killed over 90 people with a gallon of gas and a match. 2 army buddies got some diesel fuel, nitrate fertilizer, a few blasting caps, and a Ryder truck, we know the rest. What scares me now is the mind that has procured a large amount of fentanyl and whose intention is neither taking it or selling it.
@@jacktheripoff1888 I agree with you. To clarify; I too am focusing on the person…I meant that it makes me angry that one person can hurt so many people- the INTENTION is what enrages me - anything can be used as a weapon- he used his car as a weapon too. I just wish that violent people with this much rage and anger would just turn the gun on themselves instead.
I remember it well. I was living in the Woodlands TX, it was almost the only news on TV. The background stories of the individual diners & employees was really poignant.
This is one of the foundational mass shootings in America. Notice how many of them take place in Texas, California and Florida. Las Vegas is the worst so far. I would include the Oklahoma City Bombing in this group. McVeigh had the same mentality and inspired the Colubine Duo
One thing that I remember that brought joy to the people of Killeen was about 2 months after the tragedy is that the Killeen High School Varsity Football team on the Texas (UIL) Class 5A State Championship.
I lived in Killeen and worked for the school district. It was bosses day so many people from school district were there for lunch. My sister in laws mother was killed and my best friends mother. Rumor was his girlfriend had recently broke up with him and he had lost his job that day. I live 6 blocks from where this happened and can still remember the curtains blowing out thru the broken windows (they are floor to ceiling so it was quit an eerie image)
it was your friend, whose mom died, that lost the job and GF, or you meant the killer? they did have those tall curtains at all of them, like a trademark.
All because it was the result of a mad man's fury, not only cold blooded, but insane. Nobody can fix insanity and the shootings in Fort Hood were another example of how massacres like these happen and how the can really hit home.
If people want to help stop these Murders & Massacres, Then Talk to Your Military & Orgs like the CIA & think of a way to get them to stop their insane Mind Control operations. Then watch as the murders drop, How much more proof do you Blind Fools Need? 1 Witness out of many is Kay Griggs who Testified in the 90s that the Military is now a Full On Mind Control Operation. Wake Up
I had just gotten out of the army from ft hood when that happened. Im just now hearinf about this while currently texting my battle buddy from the army who had also just gotten out when the shooting happened.
This is the most random comment ever. Even it happened *on* your very own birthday it would be a pretty silly, random comment to make, but "day before my cousin's birthday" this is some next level shit, lol.
Akiwi Fruit yes it is. When I saw the lubys building outside, I was surprised that the outside and the structure of the restaurant looked obviously like Yank Sing.
Gatesville is more than six miles away, but if it's not too personal can you please say what unit you were at? My roommate had a family member who was CO in Hughes unit and remembered hearing about a guard losing two family members but we don't know if that guard was Hughes.
i wasnt born wen this happened =[ im in killeen texas now been here a while...killeen is small o.o but lots of building is happening ^.^ but R.I.P to the ppl tht died, i never knew about this untill 2013 o.o
Here in southern Arizona the media named the cafeteria, "Wyatt's Cafeteria". There used to be a principal of an elementary school in Tombstone, Arizona named Madeleine Wyatt. According to 'our' media reports of this incident outside a major military installation, when he exited the pickup truck he was screaming, "This county's not going to screw me around ANY MORE!" Texas is a border town. Winding up the gringos is a sport.
That's only speculation. It may have...it may not. Everyone thinks they'll be Rambo in these types of situations and then they actually happen and most of us run away(fight or flight) or we freeze and piss on ourselves. Again I'm not saying her being armed COULDN'T have stopped it but it's a stretch to say with 100% certainly it would have.
A handgun "clip"(magazine actually) that was capable of holding 100 "bullets"(cartridges)........why did he have 6 clips then? Was it cus he probably could carry 100 rounds plus the weight of the magazines and gun in 2 hands so he left most of them semi loaded? Or no....could this be.....a very early case of bad reporting......dare I even say by a antigun media outlet?
