Too bad the sound quality sucks,...it would have been very cool to hear his master output and not a signal picked up from a room mic.

I’m a producer and just started my channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYfkBZBo25o.html

Why do all these videos use the microphone audio rather than plugging directly into the mix... You'd think a magazine/youtube channel focused on music, production, and audio engineering would take this into account.
@FrictionBassIgnition
@FrictionBassIgnition 8 лет назад
I assume It's to prevent people from ripping the RU-vid audio and sampling individual elements. During these track breakdowns, the artist plays stems or individual sounds, a lot of which would be p̶o̶s̶s̶i̶b̶l̶e̶ impossible to isolate with conventional sampling methods. So instead of FM uploading the dry audio and inadvertently providing everyone with the opportunity to ripoff the artists work, they upload less quality audio to discourage this.
@orbituary
@orbituary 7 лет назад
Yeah but there was a remix competition for this song lol the stems for this are on the internet already so for a song like this they should just use the mix rather than only mic audio

He isn't the record label and probably doesn't have the ability to let the direct feed go out especially when he is soloing parts. The label obviously does.

@theoaltmann

But diplo is often producing
@IIIO000
@IIIO000 8 лет назад
+Theo Altmann Yeah ghost production doesn't mean that u're doing nothing, in the case of this song it is only the mixdown+mastering. The famous version of 'Light it up' is completely produced by another artist (it just says 'Remix'), but this person is not even named - This is also a kinda ghost producing. Anyway I don't really mind if they're using ghosts, the more important thing is that they're offering great music
@theoaltmann
@theoaltmann 8 лет назад
Do you think diplo was gettimg this famous thrü ghost productions and Light it up is from Major Lazer they are focused on djing but i think they are producing also themselve but your know that Kight it up is just a remix
@IIIO000
@IIIO000 8 лет назад
+Theo Altmann As I already mentioned Ghost production doesn't mean that u have completely no influence on the Song. But a few newer tracks of them are definitely created by the helping hand of others aus u can clearly c in this vid. They became famous with very good marketing and some talent. They became famous some Time ago, when there were not as much people wanting 2 become famous in this industry. So they also had a little bit time luck/chosen a nearly perfect time 2 get into this industry. Today it is much more complicated I guess.

@seanrobinsonjr4363
@seanrobinsonjr4363 7 лет назад
How do you know if it's only volume animation?
@johnnycdiaz
@johnnycdiaz 7 лет назад
Simply by looking at it. He's talking about sending his tracks through analog (which adds a lot of noise) and he's saying that he wants to keep it clean. So a for example: synth #2 not being playback during the verse fed through analog gear will be automated with volume all the way down. Then automated up as it comes in during the chorus. Then, automated back down. Why? All for the sake of the beauty of using he's analog collection but having the experience and knowledge to know that if the track is not being played back in various parts of the song, there's no need for unnecessary analog noise build up on a multi track basis. Hope that keeps.

A good mixing engineer will do anything to enhance a mix..actually is better if you send your track for mixing-mastering instead of just mastering ,because the engineer can get in the mix and fix what might not sound so well..This guy's work is to take a mix to the next level. He is not layering he is doing parallel compression..Also compression,distortion,reverbs,delays,vocal tuning,chorus,gates even sidechaining is a work for a mixing engineer.Some mixing engineers will also replace sounds or drums if they can do them better. So yes he is just doing mixing and mastering. Major Lazer and his team did the production and arrangement. Ps. mixing engineers like Petrolesi have the analog equipment to take your music to the next level..equipment so expensive that it will take you or Major forever to buy.so its not a bad idea to send your song for a good mix and master if you think it has the potential to become a hit And final words..big artists have not so much free time to spend on mixing details,because they travel a lot play gigs etc.They just cant do everything on their own because they do not have the time

A better soundrecording would have been nice, but in all honesty hearing his thoughts was great, understanding his philosophy is valuable. A song will never sound the same, so every change made is made by his taste, technique and workflow + understanding dancemusic. Thanks for this, he's a great mixer/masterer. So very cool ideas mixing and mastering at the same time. Read about him going from digital to analog then to another computer with the project set to higher khz 96. That is smart. People telling me they can't hear the difference in quality 44-96 khz makes you wonder what gear or how bad ears those people have. Hearing it is all realtive to hearing it in 44.1 first then listening to the same song in 96 if you cannot hear that work on your listening :)

@dnbmuzik
@dnbmuzik 8 лет назад
+AstateOfficial I dont really agree. Mixing is way more difficult
@irisssss604
@irisssss604 8 лет назад
dnbmuzik True. Mixing is much more personal but after you have mixed your own track, you are so attached and used to it that you might not hear what is wrong / what it needs as a final touch. Sending it to a pro M.E who has an acoustically amazing studio and amazing ears/experience with beautiful gear will make a world of a difference. A true professional master just lifts your track up to another level. Its a much more carefully crafted and subtle process than you may think. But obviously self mastering can be done. I self master my own stuff for sending around demos. But if one of my tracks were to be released digitally and on vinyl etc.. then i would invest in a pro master.
@dnbmuzik
@dnbmuzik 8 лет назад
AstateOfficial Yeah I'm not really against using a mastering engineer, but mixing as you said is too personal, and is a skill I would rather have than getting a hit single with a tune that was mixed by someone else
