He had me from the release date trailer. :) I really, really, really (did I mention 'really'?) hope we have access to the character creator before the game goes live. It is my mission to create a Rook so hot, so jaw-droppingly handsome, so primally sexy that it will be Lucanis who says, "My Body is Ready!*" *I'll also accept "My b***s just exploded," but that visual would probably go right off the 'cringe' scale. 😈
Thank you, means a lot! I was worried I didn't have quite enough CC footage. I would have loved to slowly click through every single option for you guys.
Apparently there's a forehead size option + people haven't really been using the facepaint options that much. But ngl, this convinced me to play a male qunari over a female one.
I’m gonna love Lucanis. That spite demon is hilarious. Oh my God, I love his reactions. ‘Oh, he’s fun! You’re never fun.’ ‘I wanna talk. I want to talk to Rook.’ I’m really hoping that if you’re a mage, you can actually see the spite demon. Then I would send the other two away, and once they’re out of the room, I’d just say, ‘We can talk now, spite demon. No need to cause him harm. I can see and hear you.’ Something like that. I can just imagine the demon going, ‘Really? Oh, this will be fun. I don’t have to just deal with this boring man anymore.’ It would create a deeper connection between us Lucanis too, especially if you romance him. ❤❤
I do like the griffon you always show at the end of these videos. I feel like Bioware should have started their entire marketing campaign with that griffon. Then people would have loved this game. Their first impression would have been a positive one.
@@cande9023 I was personally planning on doing Shadow Dragons if that helps. The idea is that my Rook fights for a better Tevinter where everybody can be equal, even if he is an outsider for being Qunari. Couple that with our resident Antivan Crow whose people are at war with Qunari and is infamous for killing mages, and I think it’ll be a very fulfilling romance ark.
@@SilverShadow1617 that's a genius idea so thanks! I was thinking of doing a fellow crow since apparently you get a lot of reactivity in the story from that, but the revolutionary character paired with someone who feels doomed by the narrative (what with the whole "you might have to kill me" thing) is such a good convo.
@@cande9023 Happy to help. I think you’re right about Lucanis feeling doomed so having a rook that’ll teach him that anything is possible as long as he never gives up the fight would mesh well. I would say Shadow Dragon best suits that direction, but maybe that vibe could also work for Grey Warden or Antivan Crow if you’re considering other factions too. 👍
@@SilverShadow1617 So many choices. I already feel to urge to plan several playthroughs and the game isn't even out yet. The fact that he was written by Mary Kirby also does not help to tone down the hype lol.
Most likely going for Bellara romance wise, but dude.... that accent on Lucanis.... 👀 Also glad to see a good looking qunari rook, recent events had me a bit worried.
Rook about Lucanis: HE CAN CHANGE!! I CAN CHANGE HIM!!! Hawke who romanced Anders:… Lavellan who romanced Solas:… Warden who’s happy with Morrigan and their son Kieran: FUCK WHAT EVERYONE SAYS!! I BELIEVE IN YOU ROOK!!!
Am I the only one who finds the dialogues kinda lame? Also, doesn't this thing, that the players can see this Spite but the main character can't, ruins the immersion and only creates confusion about your perception of the game and narrative? In all the previous games you got acquainted with the world around you through the protagonist's eyes, you never knew more than your hero and you could associate yourself with your character, making decisions based on the information gathered. And in this scene we, the players, see much more and thus understand much more than the protagonist - and other characters. What does it mean for the story? If I know some important piece of information that my Rook doesn't due to the plot, and that piece of information may change my view on the situation when I need to make my choice, I should WONDER how on the meta-level I should make the choice: depending on the information available to me or depending on the information available to Rook in order to roleplay as I want? Man, I could get into more detail about this issue (though I am sure my comment will just get lost in the thread lol) but at any rate it's obvious already that this is a big one, and I am just so confused....
No you're completely right. I think it's a symptom of bad story telling. It's breaking the fourth wall and makes the narrative weaker as a result. Nevermind that we already had this plot with Anders.
Yeah, compared to prior games, the dialogue feels more scripted and akin to the shit I expect of Marvel/Joss Whedon. Still, it could be a deliberate choice to focus on scenes that incorporate such quippy dialgue - it avoids spoilers and is a 'safe' choice that execs likely think will pull a new audience. I was also thinking the same, with the inclusion of Spite. Why can we see them?? It would've been a cool perk and incentive for a replay to allow only a mage or whatnot to see him. Or put it behind some sort of decision; ala, you undergo some magical process or drink a potion and can see/hear him. Regardless, I'm still liking Lucanis. I don't think it's as simple as them repeating the whole Anders thing. Justice wasn't a demon and the whole crux of his storyline was him becoming more human. I'm excited to see a straight-up demon, tbh.
@@tracer.s I hope you're right. Companions always were the most important part of the DA games to me personally, I really want to like all the new ones as much as I liked the previous.
I dunno how I feel about being able to see Spite when Rook can’t. Part of the danger (and allure) of possession is the fact that, unless confronted in the fade, no one besides the possessed person can hear/see the struggle between the two of them. With Anders for example, he was clearly pained and sometimes Justice would pop out and speak to Hawke directly, but that struggle was mostly internal and something that couldn’t be understood by anyone else, even the most understanding Hawke. It’s the way that we can see that Anders/Justice are clearly clashing, but we can’t see how, and can’t see where it’s leading to until it’s too late. While I love seeing how the demon manipulates, I don’t think I like seeing something my Rook wouldn’t. I’d prefer if a demon’s manipulation tactics was only visible in the fade or to the one being tempted. I think this would have worked great for the scrapped da2 plot of Hawke risking possession, but I don’t think it works great here to see something that isn’t available to our POV character. Maybe I’m missing something though, idk
Ugh, same. I've started a new BG3 run to tide me over before this comes out, but I'm just ready for this already. I think I could potentially like him more than Astarion (which would be interesting, since I had to ween myself off of my obsession) because he's not mean-spirited or hyperse/xual (out of the gate like Astarion is). Plus, he seems more so bi-, which is less awkward for me as someone who plays female characters exclusively. Love Astarion to pieces, but there are too many clues that imply he prefers men. 😅 Not bad or anything, but it breaks the immersion at times.
when the very first companion trailer dropped, the one everyone hated, i loved it and i knew i would be romancing lucanis based on vibes alone. this scene 100% cemented that choice and i am shaking the bars of my enclosure waiting for it to be halloween so i can flirt with this poor, poor man.
This, ladies and gents, is who this game is for. This is no longer a grim fantasy RPG. This is now a dating simulator for mid-30s overweight women with some cheap gameplay and generic story to justify the 70 dollar price tag.
@@JustinJossart game become like this since DA2 because devs noticed how they attracted such audience in the first game. stop crying about "lost grim fantasy RPG". You clearly don't pay attention to this franchise enough if you just figured it out. Literally the main writers who created Dragon Age all these years were discussing with audience all the romances, lore and the story all the time.
@@JustinJossart don’t comment to bring ppl down and just play something else, then. There is not shortage of big boobs everywhere else. Your opinion is neither wanted nor appreciated despite what you might believe! You’re welcome 😂
@@malkavian4120 You're objectively wrong. Did you even play DA2? It was all about family, and Hawke dealing with losing them in often horrific ways. And it had Isabella's tits added in there for eye candy. Inquisition had even less romance and was just generic fantasy. Now we have this... cartoonish dating Sim for old women looking to cheat on their husband.
@@JustinJossart You need serious help. DA has always been about romance and the relationship with your companions. If you didn't realize that, you're just a tourist. 🤷♂️
Why is it that in every DA game someone always gets possessed by something? In DA: Awakening Justice possesses Christoff's dead body. In DA 2 Anders and Justice are together. And DA inquisition if you take Well of Sorrow You get possessed by something else as well
Because Bioware repeats themselves a lot. Like, every dragon age game we had a sus apostate mage that breaks our heart if you romance them. Only for Morrigan it was kind of fixed with DLC and you could go with her
Zevran and Anders vibes? I'm so here for it. And this time we get to see what the demon/spirit is saying (even if the other characters can't). But does this mean Lucanis is a mage, while also being a mage killer? Okay, I can't wait to play this and find out more. Thanks for sharing!
I already preordered, so it's no shade, but if they could fix the skin textures, head sizes, and Lucanis' fingers, they'll really be cooking character art-wise. Because the rest is on point. Just a few tweaks. Even if they just fixed the skin textures, that would help a lot! Either way, Lucanis has been my intended from the beginning.
I wonder what would be Emmrich's stance about Lucanis' unique situation. It is refreshing that all mages in Rook's roster don't fully subscribe to the southern Chantry's beliefs about spirits and demons.
Sadly Taash's cutscenes weren't in the demo we played :( We did load into a later mission where she is already unlocked as a companion for us to use though.
very different, Anders and Justice merged, it's why Anders was so different post awakening, this is closer to Wynne if she was possessed by a demon instead of a spirit.
@@imshailNah, Anders was just as possessed, he just didn't want to admit (until the end if a rival) that he was and that his anger corrupted Justice into Vengeance. And didn't want to consider removing him, because he felt guilty about destroying a friend.
@@HumanBeingHiuman but he dances around the subject instead of calling it what it is. He says it "changed him [Justice]", not "corrupted into a demon", and that "they are one now", while every time Vengeance comes out we can see he is very much a separate being that takes control over Anders's body (as he admits himself after the fade). Not once does he call him Vengeance, even though Vengeance calls himself that. Anders is coping bad, but he is very much classically possessed.
I'll sift through and try to find you some delicious crumbs, my dear. Unfortunately, we didn't have any of his cutscenes in the demo :( But, there will be some full party scenes he's included in, and I took him with me in the missions as often as I could!
@@cande9023 its true taste is subjective. But common sense and working brain isn't. To say goty material is wild considering the games that got published this year. Wukong, Space marine 2 etc.
@@captainlongdik8724 game isn't even out so any comparisons are invalid until release. That being said, people have always disagreed on GOTY contenders. Remember the BG3 outrage from Spiderman 2 fans? And in my opinion Spiderman 2 was average at best, but I get why the fans of the game thought it was fun and don't feel the need to shit on them.
I knew I was going to love that man. Now I am certain. I can absolutely fix him. At least I hope I can. Why do they always make the most damaged man the best to romance. He absolutely will be my romance in first play and maybe every other. Dang it this is going to be like when my Lavellen fell for Solas in Inquisition.
So Rook can’t see spite but the player can. Interesting, I’m excited to find out more. He doesn’t seem possessed in the normal way (like anders) because they are still two separate entities. I wonder if similar to the Avvar mages from the jaws of Hakkon dlc 🤔
@@Etheral101 Why you are mentioning some stupid politics here, who cares. Models look very plastic. Kind of like in DA2 but worse. And we are no longer in 2010. Graphics and animations are quite bad. Except the hair. Qunari faces almost completely lack textures. Especially that forehead. Not every Qunari needs to look like Arishok from DA2, but cmon, they are a warrior race. They don't have time for make up and skin care to make their faces so smooth ;)
This is... good. Definitely better than the Bellara intro. I'm very curious about how DA:V is going to turn out. Half of what I see leaves me very impressed. The other half leaves me cold. I think it'll be a divisive game. Some people will think it's an absolute home run, while for others it won't get past first base. And I think both will be right. Those who love the game will have good reasons to love it. Likewise for those who don't.
I am loving Spite. completely utterly not at all feral for this man and his spirit demon. It's giving Wynne vibes and Spite is adorable.... That sassiness xD "I wanna talk to him! hes fun!" I was going to romance harding cuz I always wanted to play dwarves but also romance dwarf now I can but now im here like Nope. Going with my ex dalish elf crow rook idea first then dwarf.
Why is his head so big? Oh realised all heads are big and shoulders narrow and arms long…. Interesting model character choice from the devs…. Are they going for the cartoon-look all the way?
I don't know what it is, but the facial and body animations look...off to me, and I really don't like the super smooth looking fortnite like art style, I feel like hogwarts legacy had a more gritty look then this game. I think this one will be an easy pass for me. Which is such a shame, I loved origins.
@@malkavian4120 my theory is based on the poem that goes "hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and wings the tune without the words, and never stops at all" It seems appropriate when Lucanis has wings. Hope lifts you up and can make you keep going, but if you can't find hope because it's been beaten out of you, spite works just as well. As long as it keeps you alive, you know?
Oh please for the love of all Elvhehen Gods, Andraste, and whoever else, please do not be another Anders and Justice situation. I’m already locked in with this man.
Not Mr Steamy Lucanis doing a Game of Thrones reference with “The Crows send their regards” like when Roose Bolton did to Robb Stark at the Red Wedding “The Lannisters send their regards”. Still gonna romance him hard then Emmerich, then Neve. Also why am I having the hots for this Qunari Rook and Lucanis together? Both are hot af and can take me to Paris 🤤🤤🤤
