As a Les Six specialist myself. The Poulenc double piano concerto is among my favorite Poulenc.. The Jussen brothers are also one of my favorite piano duos. They literally move as 1 with great understanding of the repertoire, subtlety, shading and nuance. Simply fantastic. And I can never tell which of these brothers is sexier.. ... Gentleman prefers blonde. Loving Arthur with the Bowie hair. But seriously truly never get tired of watching them and they do all my favorite repertoire ..
@jean-francoisbrunet2031
@jean-francoisbrunet2031 Год назад
In addition to being a Les Six and Poulenc specialist, are you gay? (I am too, by the way, just to dispell any misunderstanding). My point is: are you sure that the first movement is slower here that in the female interpretations that you trashed previously, in part for being "rushed" (Labèque and Argerish?)
@SpencerMusicSchool
@SpencerMusicSchool Год назад
@@jean-francoisbrunet2031 To answer your questions. Vladimir Horowitz once said. "There are only 3 types of pianists; GAY, Jewish or Bad" LOL And yes I'm not really fans of the Labèque sisters . If you listen to the their first movement of this concerto the conductor starts at a correct tempo then the ladies start really pushing the tempo.. Not terrible but not great. Allegro ma no troppo (quick but not too much so). meaning Clarity and not rushing. Martha Argerich/Nelson Goerner are better. I usually adore Argerich but didn't find her Poulenc double as spectacular as her breathtaking Ravel for example. Of course it is a matter of taste.. Art is subjective. But I have performed the solo Poulenc, the double and even the Concert Champêtre as well as all the chamber piano and wind works. The Jussen always have such subtly of voicing and shading in their playing. They make the double concerto sound like 1 .. Not easy at times in the fast sections to have absolute precision of togetherness with still moments of rubato. There are spots in the 1st movement that are very exposed like Mozart adagio sections. The Jussens do a beautiful job with this concerto. And I would indeed marry Arthur if he asked. LOL. But seriously The Jussens are one of my favorite piano ensembles. Watch them on works like the Debussy Epigraphes. Shear perfection . Also obviously one should compare interpretations to Poulenc/Février's recording from the 1950s. Obviously the composer is that piano so one can see chosen tempos, rubato and shading etc.

Hell yes!! (I mean "You guys!") === But I can see how a lot of ppl would like to eat them up. Or wat them alive. Aa a teacher of French and German in the US....we could all wrie a book about when thw students create with the language, and, because some little word or a single vowel got messed up, out came xxx (omg!). In somw situations all ya can do is blush, compose yourself and move on. (And say to myself "I ain't gonna be the one to explain THAT to a whole class!" 😰 ) But who of us who speak one or more foreign languages has not haf this experience? And it doesn't stop no matter how near-native you speak that language! Uggh, not uggh, tho 😇😈😉. Because the resulting humor NO comedian could ever make up. With the Germans, every time he/she would quiye seriously say something like "Mark! Weisst du, wad du eben gesagt hast? And then immediately proceed to tell me in admirably concise and clinical terms. Then just as quickly we'd both go into "sich todlachen" mode. (...laugh yourself to death.) A native speaker of French? A blush I just know they were tfying to hold back. Which sent me to a slang dictionary later, where I died a 1000 deaths but then lmao. That exchange brings you to the heart of French culture, class and values btw. And to the delicious contradictions within "la mentalité française." And my yummie, dry and subtle as hell cousins when I didn't get "fancy dress" or used the American word "suspenders" in a sentence that first and only time? "Mark, (looking down with this precious mine) those garters under there...you naughty lad." And you both had better hold back the laughter so as not to wreck the moment. Nope just cherish the memory and the friendship that just deepened. Our two boys could "sing a song" (am translating from German ) about these experiences, for sure. And they are no prudish sticks in the mud, for sure. Red blooded, serious, fun loving homos sapiens, for sure! Stay that way, okay? ....Through all of life's inevitable joys, storms and the inbetween hard work of practice and rehearsals. You will. Bc you gots one fine mama who did all the right things with the precious cargo handed to her by Fate, or the Gods, or God Himself---whichever you choose to believe. Hoch sollen die leben! Dreimal hoch!!
