@PanzerPlatform are you still using the lucas fuel treatment every fill up? Curious to see how much you are saving now
@PanzerPlatform
@PanzerPlatform 8 месяцев назад
@@kevinanglin678 Yes, every fill up. The real reason I use this snake oil, or any other is not for MPG improvement. I use it to mitigate the negative effects of ethanol in the US gasoline supply. There are no 100% pure gasoline stations in my area. They all contain 10% ethanol, just like most of the US. If you want to know RU-vid search "why is ethanol in gasoline?" -Chuck

Did not take into consideration the over treatment. Great job in catching that red flag. I have used Lucas for years , the difference in mileage for me is negligent 1 or 2 mpg per tank. Although the difference in using Shell gasoline to Wawa gasoline is around plus 10 mpg per tank when using Shell. My main reason for using Lucas is the injector cleaning capabilities and the upper cylinder lubrication which has helped me put 200,000 miles plus on two of my cars . The 2010 Hyundai sonata with the 4 cylinder has just developed a valve tick but that poor car was put through the wringer. My daily vehicle 130 miles per day round trip in Washington DC traffic for six years, loaned to my kids several times while their car's in the shop ( they're adults now , they can either marry someone who can work on cars or learn to do it themselves). I am done crawling under their cars because they heard a noise two months ago and decided to turn up the radio instead of fixing it.

I would not worry at all about the slight overage on any of his bottles. The problem could occur when he puts in the 6ounce bottle every fillup, even when only putting in 10 gallons. Keep in mind, they are discouraging the guys who think "more is better" so the 4oz recommendation to them means put in 8oz ever fillup for better results. The reason MMO can damage cars is that it's an oil lubricant. Burning oil causes some smoke, which if it's dense enough it can slowly plug catalytic converters over time. The 4oz per gallon produces smoke thin enough that it won't cause buildup in the converters. My 2007 Hyundai Elantra passed 275k miles a while back. It's ready for retirment, needs front suspension work, two motor mounts replaced, and is 40k past due for the timing belt. Can't see putting all that money into it at this mileage.

I'm in the UK, i was introduced to Lucas tune up in a tube, by a mechanic, who worked at RAF Lakenheath, an American airbase, back in the 80s, used it on every vehicle since, never had any problems with my vehicles, none of the rough running that plagues many modern cars, and never had a MOT failure on emissions, equivalent to the America smog test. My 2006 ford e150 had the check engine light flashing on 6-15-20 on my way to work. I had new plugs and packs put on at 100k miles. This was at 109k so i figured it was injectors and added MMO to my tank and the light turned off. Now at 112k miles the check engine light was flashing again. I put lucus fuel injector cleaner in the tank and it's fine again. I put another in my door pocket for next fill up. I think if I just keep using it it will always be ok

Yo Pilot, Thanks for the good feedback. BTW, when you see a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (check engine light) flashing while you're driving it's possible it could mean "Iminent Catalyst Meltdown". Back in 2016, my 2002 Chevy truck needed to be towed to my mechanic to have the fuel pump replaced. When I picked the truck up, my mechanic suggested using Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas to keep the new fuel pump lubricated, and it would also clean the fuel system including the fuel injectors. I also added MMO in the gas of my 2002 Lincoln Town Car. Almost right away, I noticed the idle was much smoother in both vehicles, and they seemed to have more power. Another benefit of using MMO was better gas mileage on the highway. On my next 815 mile trip from Maryland to Florida after using MMO, I was now getting an extra 1.5 to 2 miles per gallon in my car. I am now using 2 less gallons of gas on each 815 mile trip. With Walmart selling the quart (32 oz) size of MMO at $3.88, I am using about $1.50 in MMO, but using 2 fewer gallons of gas on each one way trip. With this in mind, I am actually saving money using MMO, plus the added benefits it provides. I was about to buy a gallon of Lucas fuel treatment last November in a very cold state of Maryland, but didn't based on a review that I had read about Lucas gelling up in very cold temperatures and not being able to be poured into the gas tank if it was stored in a very cold trunk. Now that is April and I am still in Florida, on my next Walmart trip, I might buy a gallon of Lucas. I have never had any issues of storing and using MMO in very cold conditions. Thanks again to Chuck who did a video about this very same subject five months ago. Frank PS I filled up my car with gas yesterday in Ormond Beach, Florida, at a Mobil station at $1.89 a gallon. If gas prices keep falling, maybe I can find gas at 29 cents a gallon, the price of gas in Maryland before the oil embargo hit in October 1973.

Yo Frank, Have you ever experimented with E85, or Ethanol Free Gas (100% pure gasoline) in terms of mpg? Neither is sold in my area. The only thing sold in my area is E10, (90% Gas / 10% Ethanol). -Chuck
@franknew9001
@franknew9001 4 года назад
Chuck, I wouldn't use E85 gas in either vehicle of mine since they are not flex fuel vehicles. There is a new gas station in Ormond Beach called Wawa that now sells ethanol free gas. The regular E10 gas currently sells for $1.89, while the ethanol free gas sells for $2.65 a gallon there. I have not tried the ethanol free gas, but even if it gave better miles per gallon, I would be spending much more per gallon. I don't cut the grass here in Florida, but if I could find ethanol free gas in Maryland, I would buy some for my lawn mower and other gas powered items. Frank

I consistantly get 1-2 mpg better using Lucas in my 1995 Chevy K1500 4.3.(also in my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 3.8)otherwise it tends to get around 14 mpg or less.Tuned up,runs well,(with or without.)thats a big improvement percentage wise. I run it in all my vehicles. I swear by it. Old saying...if aint broke dont fix it....meaning it works for you without harming anything then why stop. And I truly believe it helps keep injectors etc clean. I believe on all my vehicles I've seen improvement but never more than 2 miles per gallon. When you're running vehicles that don't get the best mileage to begin with that's quite an improvement. I have heard contradiction about additives...but I see it's benifits for myself so I dont see how my own results could false.

even if you spilled a whole gallon of MMO in your trunk, I think it would be fairly easy to clean up. I'm more blown away by the fact that you are getting more than 10mpg better than I am. I have been keeping detailed business records for over 2 decades now and more recently have been keeping MPG records with it. My Panthers, all 3 I've owned, are stuck right around 16.5mpg @ 70% highway miles, which is about the same I get with my 2004 Cobra and my 5.7 Charger and 3.5 better than I get in the Avalanche 5.3L. When I had a 460 V8 Ford F250 I calculated that in gallons per mile

Enjoy your videos as always. I was expecting you to run with Super Tech TC-W3 Outboard 2-Cycle Engine Oil on this round. You referenced a thread on LS1 by a guy named Sarge, he seems knowledgeable, he had the following to say regarding Lucas on another post: "Use 1oz of TCW3 per 5 gallons of gas. Lucas does not have the cleaning properties as the TCW3 has. TCW3 also has better lubrication properties. Lucas Oil Stabilizer is just viscosity enhancers. Period. Does nothing else. If your sump uses 6 quarts just substitute 1 quart of 20-50 and you gain much more benefits than Lucas Snake Oil." I personally bought TC-W3 after ending my MMO gallon a few days ago but have not had much opportunity to drive around so cannot share any of my personal results. On another note Acetone is also purported to increase MPG and is used in numerous fuel additives like Berryman-B12. I would be interested to see your results using Acetone only and Acetone + Lucas. Internet suggest ratio should be 1 to 3.5 oz per 10 gallon.
@PanzerPlatform
@PanzerPlatform 4 года назад
Yo Subarik, Thanks for stopping by. Before I tried the MMO, before I tried the Lucas Fuel Additive, the very first fuel additive I tried was the Walmart Super Tech TC-W3. I ran 5 tank fulls of treated gasoline through my Merc, (approximately 100 gallons) before I completed my MPG test loop. It made no change in fuel economy. I was really disappointed after all the rave reviews I read about it. But for some reason it did not work in my vehicle. That’s when I found, and tried the Lucas fuel additive. So far I’m pleased with the Lucas results. It costs me $27 a year to run and saves me $90 a year in gasoline costs. But of course the real reason I use it is to mitigate the negative effects of the 10% ethanol content on our gasoline. I hope the TC-W3 works for you, but unless you performed a baseline MPG test loop, it will be difficult to prove its effectiveness. Also just to be clear I have never run an oil additive in my oil crankcase. I have only used fuel additives. I’ve heard good things about acetone as a fuel additive too. But unfortunately I have not seen any scientific proof, or data that it actually works, or is safe to use without causing damage to oxygen sensors & catalysts. So I’m not willing to be the guinea pig on that experiment. Lol -Chuck

Lucas can also fix a sticky fuel gauge (not the actual gauge but actually the cause in the fuel pump that causes the gauge to not read accurate or slowly) It's also a fuel stabilizer (if I remember correctly) so it'll help with all that nasty ethanol in the gas nowadays. I recently used it on my 17 accord, for the 1st time in maybe a year. I quickly noticed that the engine idle noise went down a bit and my fuel lasted longer (almost twice as long) unfortunately I didn't really do any tests, but I had been using MMO like 4 months prior and it didn't have nearly the result. I do use MMO about 1000 to 500miles prior to a oil change though, since it does a decent job of cleaning.

@Panzer Platform: I've been using TC-W3 exclusively for about a year now since I got rid of my Marquis and got my first CVPI - I believe it's cheaper than even MMO by like a dollar (when I bought it I think it was 13 or 14 dollars for a gallon.) I go by the commonly accepted 1oz/5gal, and contrary to what some people say, I fill up first so I know EXACTLY how much I should be putting in, then I put the TC-W3 in - I have a 1oz turkey baster that I use to measure it as I've found those bottles like the Lucas one etc are more inconvenient to use for 2-3oz at a time. We don't pump our own gas here in Jersey so I figure it'd look kinda odd to the attendant to hop out of the car when he's done and grab a turkey baster and a bottle of blue stuff and put some in my gas tank LOL, so I'll drive to somewhere else in the vicinity and put it in, then either continue on my drive or go in the store and kinda let it settle a bit and hopefully mix a bit on its own before it gets mixed from movement. I haven't gotten as in-depth with savings per year and what-not as you have, and I definitely don't hit the same pump in the same station every time or anything like that, but there is a definitive 1-2mpg increase in my mileage when using the TC-W3 vs not using it; regardless of how aggressive I am with my speeds or how much city driving I do. I have done enough tanks with and without it over the year to see the trend. I typically get whatever 87 is cheap around me besides a couple stations that I know add too much ethanol to their stock. Never noticed any increase in mileage from using 87, 89, 91, or 93 - and I've never noticed much of a difference in going to a Shell or Sunoco over other not-as-nationwide name stations. I will say that I must just drive in an inefficient manner (or I'm not on the highway for nearly long enough) because I see people all the time saying they get 19+ in P71s, even with the 3.55 rear. I have 3.27s and my best mpg to date is 17.4mpg. Granted, my alignment is ever-so-slightly off and these tires are 3-4 years old, and I'm assuming it's on original coil-on-plugs (with iridium plugs put in ~20k ago.) Besides that, nearly everything that could effect mpg mechanical-wise is new or relatively new. So I guess it comes down to my feet, which are pretty heavy. I certainly do not drive like a micromiler despite my efforts to at least TRY lol.

Yo John, I have no idea exactly how this stuff works. But last year I did some research on the subject, and it was interesting. I won’t tell you what I learned, that would be too easy. Instead I’ll give you a few breadcrumbs, and you can come to your own conclusion. My 2004 Vic is not an “E85 Flex Fuel” Vehicle. However my 2010 Merc is. But these two facts are inconsequential to why I use a fuel additive. Older, or modern car makes no difference either, as to why you should, or shouldn’t use a fuel additive. In all my fuel additive videos I say I’m only interested in the improved fuel economy aspect because, that’s the only thing I can confirm, and verify with rock hard scientific data. There are other benefits to using a fuel additive. To learn why you’ll need to research; “Why was MTBE banned around the year 2000?” and “Why was MTBE replaced with 10% Ethanol?” Once you have the answers to those two questions, you should be able to understand the benefits of using a fuel additive like Lucas, or MMO. -Chuck

I’ll let you in on my secret. I don’t use these snake oil products to improve fuel economy. The boost in fuel economy is just a bonus. I use them to mitigate the negative effects of the 10% Ethanol in all gasoline (E10) in the US, (except for 100% pure gasoline which is rare to find). I'm not talking about E85 that's a completely different issue. I use these products in the hope it will add lubricity to the fuel that was stripped away by the 10% Ethanol. It is my hope this lubricity will prevent premature fuel pump failure, rust in the gas tank, etc. So far it's working from what I can tell. My 2004 Ford Crown Vic with 162K miles is on the original “everything”. This is rare because all my buddies with their Crown Vics are periodically replacing fuel pumps, and gas tanks due to failure, and corrosion issues. If you want to more RU-vid Search; “Why is ethanol in gasoline?” The best video is from 7 years ago by John Stossel. Basically in 2001 the US banned MTBE as a fuel additive to increase Octane because it was getting into the water supply, (rivers, lakes, etc) and causing folks to get cancer. They chose Ethanol as a replacement due to a delicate balance of government incompetence, and corruption, (just like everything else). lol -Chuck

Great study! At one point, you address the proper ratio of the additive to fuel. I'm perplexed as to why the Lucas 5.25oz bottle treats 25 gallons, but when you purchase it by the quart or gallon, the label assumes 3oz per gallon? Either the small bottle should be 7.5oz, or the larger containers should treat 152 & 609 gallons respectively? My plan was to simply refill the small bottle with the juice from the larger container. Is my plan flawed?
@PanzerPlatform

Yo Peter, Thanks for stopping in, and the kind words. I've always been aware of the different mixture ratio of the "trial size" for first time consumers that don't want to commit to such a long term application like the 1 Gallon jug. One can only guess why it's a 5.25 oz. bottle. Maybe they think people will be two 5.25 oz. bottles because it will not be enough to treat a full tank. Maybe they got a great deal on bulk 5.25 oz. bottles. lol Who knows. I've only ever bought the 1 gallon jug, and mixed up my snake oil at 3 oz. of product per 10 gallons of fuel just like the instructions say. What are your thoughts: I wonder if the amount of savings achieved by using Lucas is not higher? Your #s are perfect, what I mean is that the reason I use Lucas is in lieu of high octane gas, which can be as much as 30% higher at the pump. Therefore the amount saved is $75 odd per year plus the difference in types of gas consumed. The only way to get similar performance without Lucas is high-test, so I save 6% plus the gas cost difference...
@PanzerPlatform
@PanzerPlatform 3 года назад
Yo Seymore, Thanks for watching. Now hold on just a minute, I don't think I'm following you correctly. Are you telling me Lucas Fuel Treatment is a replacement for high octane gasoline? I am not familiar, or aware of this benefit. It's that's true, that would be amazing for people who drive cars that require high octane gasoline. Can you provide a link to where I can learn more about this? Or, at the least explain your experience running your car on high octane gasoline vs. running it with low octane gasoline treated with Lucas Fuel Treatment. As far as the 6% in savings. It’s complicated. The actual fuel consumption savings will be different for every car because each car gets a different MPG. Another factor that complicates the savings ratio is the wild differences in the cost of gasoline across the country. I routinely pay close to $4.00 per gallon, while some viewers regularly report they’re only paying $1.75 per gallon. And I should probably tell you that I’m not using this fuel additive simply to save $75 a year in gasoline costs. There is a secondary reason I use fuel additives that claim to add “lubricity” to the gasoline. But I don’t really talk about it in my testing videos because I have no way to show that it actually works with documentable, scientific data like I have shown with my fuel economy, and MPG increase tests. The secondary reason I use a fuel additive is to mitigate the negative effects of the 10% Ethanol mixture in the gasoline supply that was implemented around 2001 in my home state. Around the year 2001 MTBE was banned as a gasoline additive to boost octane rating, and replaced with 10% Ethanol. Ethanol is great for increasing the octane rating of gasoline, but it can accelerate corrosion in certain vehicle components, and it “dries out” the gasoline by removing it’s lubricity. I have a vehicle that does not get driven on a regular basis, and I would like to prevent rust build up in the fuel tank, and I’m also hoping it prolongs the life of my fuel pump in the car that I drive regularly. Like I said these are controversial claims, because I have no way to show proof that they are actually working. -Chuck

You must think about how much will extend the life of your fuel system. This stuff will put much more money on your pocket, than 70usd!!!

Yo Mark, Thanks for watching. That's a very good question, I had myself. The only documentable proof that I have is the before, and after measurements of my fuel economy / gas mileage. You can see that here; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M_bFPYlO3mk.html - Of course, there are some other benefits, but nothing I can prove. I'm blindly hoping it lets my fuel pump last as long as possible. -Chuck

$ 34.99 in Sept 2022

Right on Cruz, Thanks for stopping in. I just checked the Walmart website, and it's $30.98; www.walmart.com/ip/seort/45819324 - I've noticed lately when I check Walmart prices on their website, the prices are lower, than the price on the same item on the shelf when I go to my local store. So if it's cheaper online, I just order it online with their free shipping, ($35 minimum). It's almost feels like Walmart is penalizing customers with higher prices for the people that actually walk in to their local store, and they want people to just order their stuff online. Btw, where did you see the price of $34.99? I've seen it sold at auto parts stores for much higher. -Chuck

Didn't you have another video using Walmart 2 cycle oil @ 2 oz. per 10 gallons of fuel?
@PanzerPlatform
@PanzerPlatform Год назад
Right on Dick, Thanks for stopping in. Super Tech TC-W3 was the first additive I tried, and it did not increase my MPG, so I didn't make a video about it. But don't let that stop you from trying it. There are tons of folks who use it for their application. Any of these snake oils is going to work, the trick is finding out which one works best in your specific application. -Chuck

@@PanzerPlatform I was getting 19.2 MPG in my 2020 Ford F-150 5.0 V8 running straight gas, after running the Super Tech TC-W3 @ 2oz. per 10 gallons of gas my MPG went to 22.1 it took a few tanks full of this mix to get my average, now I am on my third gallon of this oil fuel mix.
