Quick thank you to the folks in the Premiere and special thanks to CAROL'S DARK SARCASM and LUKE FITZPATRICK for the bonus chat $$$'s That was so rad!!!
Jason the amount of time you spent on this project is amazing . We greatly appreciate it . I can’t believe I never thought of doing that with the bigger gallon! I’ve been paying it by bottle I’m definitely going to snag me this from your Amazon cart since you put the work into this research. I’ve always sworn by this and have done it once every 1000 miles but now with that little trick of the bigger bottle and refill I’ll do it every fill up.
Real world testing.... thanks for sharing! I use it in my Mazda6 Turbo and it helps a lot with the pee water 91 octane we get in california! Boosts octane, better throttle response and the idle is much smoother. The car pulls noticably harder with it in the tank!! Its a direct injection car so I wanna keep it clean too and this has been helping a ton! I can for sure tell when I dont use it so I get the gallon and use it every fill up...
The only additives I swear by are MARVELOUS MYSTERY OIL, LUCAS OIL UPPER CYLINDER LUBRICANT & INJECTOR CLEANER, BERRYMAN’S B-12 CHEMTOOL, and SEAFOAM! I have seen these products actually work well with new and older/ high mileage vehicles. As well as small 2&4 stoke engines.
This shit is my favorite snake oil. Cured my constant p0301 p0303 p0300 misfires. Stopped coming back after two treatments on my 1995 tacoma. I’m a believer.
Now try their oil stabilizer on your next oil change. For my 454 I sub 2 quarts out of the 7 quarts required. Smoother starts, smoother idle. Lucas really does work.
I ran a bottle in my 2011 Rubicon with the 3.8 on 37's and 5:13's. I run a Ripp tune, coil, wires, NKG plugs and long tube headers, which means using super unleaded. After a full tank with the additive on the highway for my test, I gained about 2.75mpg and noticed a slight increase in power, mostly off the line and at lower rpm's. I went from 15mpg to 17.75mpg (highway). The Jeep is still a pig on hills on the highway, but I can maintain 70-75 mph easily without dropping out of overdrive. Also, you can find the large gallon of the Lucas fuel additive at O'Reiley's auto stores if you have them in your state. I paid $32.50 for the jug, and $6.50 for the little bottle. I'll definitely use it on longer highway trips, but for around town I'm not sure it makes too much of a mpg difference with all the stopping and starting I do where I live. However, the power is nice even if slight. Thanks Jason!
Yes, I'm a believer too! I have a 2004 Mercury Marauder with the 4.6 4 valve cobra motor in her, I was experiencing hesitation under normal acceleration, and full throttle, I added this today, and the hesitation is all but gone. And now the idle is smooth as butter! Good stuff!
When I had my GMC 2500 truck and pulled my toybox trailer with toys to the desert I always put in a bottle of this stuff and noticed a significant difference in mileage and power. Good stuff!! Now I just run it every once in awhile in my Jeep.
Wanted to let you know. I've been using this for the last few months. An I can say it works. Before I was getting 12.5mpg city/ 15mpg hwy. Now I'm getting 14mpg city/ 18.6mpg hwy. I've also been putting in my wife's hhr an it has improved mpg's as well. Thank you for recommending this product.
I have been using this for over 10 years. I use it every other full tank. I buy a full gallon and keep refilling the smaller bottle. It keeps them clean. All 5 of my vehicles.
Guys, Not that there's any question whether or not this works (saving money at the pump, as well as getting a bit more performance out of your rig... I mean, J hasn't failed me yet...), but this actually works! I got the gallon and some smaller containers to refill. I'm getting an about 1.5 mpg gains (hwy driving) here in Houston! Normal driving, getting an extra 1 MPG. Every bit counts. After seeing/feeling the results (been a few weeks now), I'm starting to add this stuff to our other cars. Super handy, super easy, KISS mod here. :) Thanks again, J!
Love Lucas too. Been using it on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 for about 7 years now (on and off not every full tank but every 1,000-3,000 miles and I feel even at that rate I’m benefitting. I haven’t done a fuel mileage calcs comparison yet but I did when switching from stock 30” tires to 33” mud tires to 32” all terrain tires back to 33” MTs and that was interesting.
Moved to New Zealand last year where fuel is approx $8.50-$9 per gallon. I will FOR SURE be using this to try to squeak more mileage (kms) out per tank of fuel. As always....THANK YOU for your service. 😁 Buying a JK in this country was a BAAAAAD idea. 😅
I might have to give this a try. Though with my Jeep only having 25K on it, I would hope there is no build up or anything. But, better fuel economy is always welcome.
I was introduced to Lucas tune up in a tube, by an American serviceman based at RAF Lakenheath back in the 80s, I've used it every 3-4 tank fulls on every vehicle I've owned since. Never had a warning light on any vehicle I've owned, and never had a MOT failure on emissions ( smog test ) I've used it on both petrol and diesel vehicles, based on my experience it must do something right
I've been using that for decades! I buy it by the gallon. I used to buy the gallon size at the NHRA drags where the manufacturer would have smoking hot deals on it. I've never had to have fuel injectors removed and cleaned in any of my vehicles. I even used it in my boat's injected outboard motor. I do save the little bottle but I only use 4 ounces per tank.
Jason, holy crap man! This is tremendous research. I will definitely be trying this out myself, and really appreciate all your hard work on the research.
Thanks so much!!! It wasn't hard (that's what she said 😂) it was really interesting to keep a log of the longer term impacts and fascinating how the Tahoe and Jeep benefitted differently!
I believe in that brand as well and you've done some great comparisons. Throughout your entire build I've always been very impressed and you've sold me into several of your installed parts! Thank you for doing the homework and yet again a great video. I'm in! Purchasing it from your store to hopefully help you out some.
Thank you! It does help and the support is greatly appreciated!!! Oh, and I'm stoked that this stuff actually works. Just got back from another drive into the city and my Jeep is actually up at 18.1 MPG overall and that's with bumper to bumper traffic on the 101 frwy today!
Hey Jason, great video and being an Engineer/Scientist myself I appreciate all of the attention to detail in looking at the impact of putting in the additive. I have a 2 door with 3.5” lift, 37” tires, and MC fenders, rear bumper, and tire carrier. I get pretty horrendous mileage at about 12mpg (readout on the dash). I’m skeptical that I will see any results close to what you’ve seen, but I am trying it. My fingers are crossed and would love to see a good result. I’ll report back. Thanks for all of the awesome videos!!
It's been a long enough experiment on my part to be confident you will see some improvement but, as you know, with so many variable it could be interesting to see what you find! Please do share when you get some data!!!
I buy this by the gallon from Amazon. I kept my old small Lucas containers and refill them. I have noticed about a 2 MPG difference. Currently in the auto parts stores, they want $7.05 for a small bottle. That is insane!
My 07 Grand Cherokee Hemi has 102,000 miles on her and gets a solid 14.3 mpg. Never bothered me before, but with these gas prices it hurts filling up once a week. I thought about trying an additive, but didn’t know which one till your video! Thanks Buddy!!
@@AutoEdits so Jason, I went and brought 2 bottles like you said, and since my strong point isn’t waiting, I put one bottle in on a 7/8 full tank. I didn’t want to put this in a new tank just incase I got an above average tank. I can’t believe what this 1 bottle did for the idle of the Jeep! Insane results!! A little back story on this 07 Hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee. I brought the GC brand new in Dec. of 2006, I’ve changed the oil every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1, Amsoil in the diffs and TC, PowerStop Brakes (again your idea) Bilstein on all four corners installed by me as well as the brakes!! To say I know this vehicle like the back of my hand is an understatement and to poor this little bottle in and get a great idle to become smoother is just unreal. My mpg in this first tank so far is up from 14.8 to 15.1. Not great, but I’ll take it as a bonus to the idle quality! The Jeep has 102,000 miles on her and she drives like new. I can say that running 87 now (only ran 89 till fuel prices went nuts) I can’t tell the difference climbing hills like you said! Thank you Jason! I’ve always loved your content wether it was Marge, or the Ram, or the Jeep!!
Hey, thanks! I would love to be sponsored by them... I legit use all of these products across that brand it's almost comical... guess I need to put together a proposal at some point and get an email address of someone over there 😂😂😂
My 1997 4Runner loves this stuff! I’ve read it adds certain polymers back into the fuel that were removed in the 80’s (probably for catalytic converters). I don’t notice a huge power increase, but the engine seems to run smoother, and does get better mileage. If it keeps the injector spray pattern consistent, the engine will run as intended, and the polymers help the fuel burn in a controlled manner. Great stuff!
I have that exact bottle ! That stuff really does live up to its clam & I also use it in My power mowers & snow blower! As well . I use in all my vehicles. Your a 💯% right it’s best to buy it by the gallon .
I really enjoyed your video, you did an outstanding job! It would appear you're a Lucas expert so I'm hoping you can answer a couple of questions. First, I'm confused by the math. Like you, I thought it would be a good idea to save and refill the 5.25oz bottle, then purchase it by the quart or gallon thereafter. The label says the 5.25oz bottle treats up to 25 gallons of gas. That would mean a quart should treat 152 gallons and your 1-gallon jug should treat 609 gallons of fuel, but those containers say 100 and 400 gallons respectively. If that's true, it would imply that the stuff in the larger containers is not as concentrated if I have to use more of it, i.e., roughly 7.5oz per 25 gallons vs. 5.25. So that's my first question, is it different stuff? I can't just refill the small bottles if it's a different ratio, right? My second question has to do with the statement on the 5.25oz bottle: "ELIMINATES NEED FOR HIGHER OCTANE FUEL". Does this really mean what it says? My car requires premium unleaded (per the manufacturer). If I use regular unleaded, the engine will absolutely knock. However, I tried regular unleaded + Lucas and the car runs perfectly smooth - and I do mean perfect. So is the absence of knocking enough? Can I get away with saving at least $1/gallon on regular gas and just add Lucas? Oddly, I noticed they only make this claim on the small bottle, not the quart or gallon size, so again, I'm left wondering whether it's the same stuff in the larger container?
From my understanding, it is the same substance in all different size bottles. After doing more research, I have discovered that this product works by creating a clean, dense, oil type additive to the fuel chamber that essentially raises the compression a bit and offers some detergent with upper cylinder lubrication. About how much per tank, I just don't pay attention to the accurate ratio and just settle for one of the small bottles per tank and have been satisfied with the results. I'm back on to buying the gallon jugs and using a small bottle every tank.
Picked up a gallon and a couple bottles.... thanks for the tips! I am a data nerd and have tracked every single fill up for the life of both my truck and jeep. Will see how it all ends up working out after a couple fill ups.
Not only does that product help my car perform better but my car also runs much better with higher octane gas. This is useful for daily driving as well as racing on the racetrack.
I have used the fuel treatment for years & can say Lucas products are superior. Yes it is a bit more in price but you get what you pay for. I buy the large bottle, on sale, & refill the small one every other month or so.
@@AutoEdits - Just some feedback on this. I've been using the Lucas stuff now for about a month and it works! I know all set up's are different, I have a 2008 JKUR running on 35's and used to average about 12.8 miles per gallon. I'm now up to 14.2 MPG! Thanks again.
Hi Jason. Thanks for doing the correct math on this, taking into the equation cost of the product per gallon and extra mileage and all. So many times i see people leaving out pertinent info in their math and not really saving anything, just taking extra steps to get the same outcome. I'm definitely going to give it a go, if it hasnt sold out already. :)) Thanks for another great video and for saving me money. If you're ever out here on the east coast let me know and i'll buy you a drink. I'll owe you one. :)
Thank You! Give it two tanks and on your second tank you should notice a difference. I had a funny dip in my experiment at the 1 month mark... mileage started going down a bit but it was because I was driving like a maniac since it felt so "peppy" and once I drove normal again it legit did great.
Great info! This is some Project Farm level research here, haha. And I definitely appreciate the tip about the gallon, that is a great idea. I have 135K on my 4Runner, and drive 300 miles a week, so I will definitely give this a shot.
Good stuff Jason. Glad you shared your stats after using it now the downside is that will be another product no one will be able to get . Will always be on back order lol. Cheers buddy
i do the same thing i keep the bottles and just refill them with the bigger bottle. I have a 2011 camaro and i would get p420 codes. I took it to a mechanic and he wanted to charge me 4000 to change the catalytic converter and fuel pump. I took it to another mechanic and he checked it out and didint find anything wrong with the car and told me to use better quality of gas and use lucas every time i fill up. The code went away and passed smog with no problem. I stopped using lucas after i passed smog and the code started to pop up again. Im starting to use lucas again because i feel it works.
Nice pointer on the bulk buy, just ordered it from your link. Man, those small bottles jumped to $8! I used to use Lucas products but somewhere along the way convinced myself it was snake oil 🤷🏻♂️ Oh well. In these trying times, anything's worth a shot! Hate to see it get removed from the market like the super capacitor jumpers did for a minute. The man is always trying to keep us down 😬
Thanks so much! Yeah, like I mentioned in the video, anything that says "tune up in a bottle" gets an eyebrow raise from me for sure but the results on the Tahoe certainly demonstrated exactly that 🤘🤘😂
Thanks so much!!! I don't have any experience with the diesel world but other folks here have chimed in and said they have success in diesel applications as well!
Hey Jason…excellent content as usual. I am taking your advise and ordered the gallon size from your Amazon link. My wife and I are about to take a 1,200 mile trip in our ‘17 Wrangler JKU. Hoping for improvements close to what you got. Will update you on how it goes. Thanks again for the awesome content.
People have been giving me a hard time for decades… I use Lucas additive in my gas and use a quart of their oil stabilizer at each change. Only warning I have is using the fuel stabilizer on old neglected vehicles can loosen up some deposits and take a while to clear out or might get way worse before it gets better. I guarantee it saves you enough in fuel consumption to pay for itself.
Good info. and that is why I changed the fuel filter on the Tahoe after a few tanks of the Lucas... just to be certain. Yeah, my math shows this stuff absolutely saves money at every fill up.
Great math and way cheaper by the gallon. Here in Canada it cost $11.49 per bottle and $50.99 per gal. Would cost me $257.76 for 24 bottles to make a gallon so buying the gallon here locally I save $206.77. That's almost 2 tanks of fuel.
Hey Jason I took your advice on the Lucas upper cylinder lubricant and started using it in my 2013 JKU and after just a couple times I'm already getting 18 mpg in town. Can't wait to see what highway mileage is going to be and if it continues to get better. And it feels like I have MORE POWER LOL. Love Tim Allen. Anyway thanks and love the channel.
Looking at some other videos it seems this product increases compression slightly due to basically adding oil to the fuel and getting a slightly better ring seal. This, combined with what is probably less fiction is what gives a smoother feel. Not sure about how much cleaning is going on. Oh and I do use it too 😀
Very interesting. I used to put something similar in my cars. But I didn't see much improvement. Perhaps as soon as I felt a smoother ride, I just couldn't help it and stepped on the gas harder.
That's funny, I had a similar experience when I put a "sporty" muffler on my vehicle... since it sounded so good I drove around with my foot on the floor and the gas mileage was horrible... I called it the "flowmaster effect" 🤣
@@AutoEdits I just recently upgraded my exhaust to Flowmaster Force 2. It's a little bit louder than what I am expecting. Since you are in LA, did you get yourself into troubles because of the loud exhaust? California has a law for exhaust being illegal if it's over 95 db.
Now since they say it cleans your injector and carbon build up when you pull the spark plugs do they look shitty in comaprison to no additives I mean before i use injector cleaner when i pulled my old spark plug 1 to 3 look clean only 4 had a bounch of sute on it after i use fuel inj cleaner now they all have sute on it
Here all this time you were running something with PEA in it, I'm talking about Lucas Deep Clean, your additive doesn't contain PEA, the ingredient that actually cleans your injectors.
@@AutoEdits your Death Valley video was awesome. It looked like so much fun. I couldn't help but to think how pristine your jeep usually is even though you wheel the heck out of that well built thing. You are always so good about responding to comments too, I really appreciate it.
Hey jason, I would love to support the channel in other ways and pitch in to pinto’s dog food fund. I know you’ve said you’re trying not to use patreon in the past but I’m sure many people would love to help fund projects or other things. You seem like a really genuine person and I’d love to help fund your content
Thanks Jason, my jeep has really bad mpg. I just tried it yesterday and it got big improve. Also,I have the same tires on your jeep, wondering what tire pressure are you running?
Good monring Jason, great video. I am about to add for the 1st time this stuff a friend of mine told me to add the enitre bottle of the gallon to get my 97 TJ 2.5 4cyl cleaned I was wondering for the 1st time could that be too much think my jeep only holld 8.5 liters of gas when full overall. maybe? Kindly please advise, and thank you Morgan
The TBI is tricky... In mine, part throttle accelerates the same as full throttle. The only two noticeable things was the idle getting better and the throttle response picked up a bit but it just feels happier for sure.
Now that you've run that cleaner, what kind of mileage do you get when you don't run it? Still a noticeable gain, or does it drop back to what you normally got before? Just curious 🙃
I wonder that too. Assuming you are cleaning out 60, 000 + miles worth of crud in the first few bottles, I have to imagine diminishing returns. Seems like you could use it once a month or so as a maintenance once you get the system running well.
its meant to be used every fill up, up front to clean, then used intermittently to KEEP clean. i buy the big gallon and keep the little bottle in the truck then refill it at home. or you could buy the medium nozzle bottle and keep in your car and squirt it in every fill up for the "initial run", the nozzle bottle sucks cuz its just a cap and not a screw top
The peppy juice makes things more peppy....fortunately for me I can get pure gas(non ethanol) and I couldn't tell a difference between ethanol gas + fuel additive vs pure gas so i just simplified it by going with pure gas all the time
@@AutoEdits no pure in cali? oil today is crazy anyway, i wouldn't put it past most of these oil giant's to be cutting their higher costs products with lower grades just to fill the barrels to the top........i take back what I said about no difference...i remember my JK did have a smoother idle in the cold on cold start up but once that little 3.6 was warm it purred all the same
