It did; before 2012. I would hardly call the new “Star Wars” story driven so much as marketing and ideologically driven. I’m all for equal representation when the stories are written instead of being slapped together with smeared feces by lesser creatives.
almost 10 years ago that. and 16 pieces of Star Wars media ago might i add. people living in the past like the sequels are current star wars. they arent.
@@standoutsteel023 Points at The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian inserting backstories that tie into their sequel trash, I mean... trilogy. Tell us again how the sequels aren't still relevant today.
They’re already continuing the Andor trend of location filming and zero Volume with The Acolyte! 😁 Love Tony Gilroy, he’s a great voice for spy & rebellion stories in Star Wars, but he’s said a bunch that he’s not a big fan of the fantastical side of Star Wars, it’s not his wheelhouse. He’d have nothing to add being in the room when breaking Jedi, Sith or alien-based stories. I’d definitely have him tinker with a draft of the Rogue Squadron movie tho!
Lucasfilm will forever be my favorite story tellers with Star Wars forever being my favorite narrative in cinematic history. The way it changed the landscape of cinema still to this day and can’t be replicated, it is a permanent staple in film history, created an entire new genre of film (sci-fi/fantasy), and turned Hollywood into this new age of storytelling will never be replicated on such a massive scale ever again.
There is also the British production company: impossible pictures who was commissioned by the BBC to make walking with dinosaurs from 1999 it was impressive to see CGI on a television budget (which according to the Guinness world records holds the title for most expensive documentary produced per minute)
"What do we want to say to the world and how can we use Star Wars to say that." This is a well intentioned but really destructive way of thinking about storytelling. You don't "Use" a story, you tell it. Don't start with an ideology then force a story to fit that, start with a compelling story and characters then, if it enhances the story, weave ideas into the narrative. This is the ideological version of chosing a release date then writing a script.
According to the art of dramatic writing, premise and character drive story. You seem to be putting the cart before the horse, which might explain your spectacular wonder flops over the past 10 years.
"Story drives everything that we do. It's the most important place to start." says Kathleen Kennedy. You can't make this up. I'm usually not the kind of "fan" that rages on the internet but to hear this from the people that drove this franchise against a wall in record time while having the audacity to pave this video with clips of people that created a whole universe out of thin air is a new level of impudence. Much love and respect for the hard working talents at Lucasfilm but throw this hypocritical video into the next Sarlacc pit. Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau and Gareth Edwards are the only guys that came up with great ideas since October 2012.
The fact that there are billions of stars and countless planets in the galaxy far, far away means the storytelling possibilities are endless. My kids' grandchildren’s grandchildren will be enjoying new stories.
For God’s sake stop bitching and moaning they brought the Emperor back in the dark empire comics from the late 1990s (granted this is legends continuity)
@@kernowpictures2002 , yeah but Luke was a badass there he wasn't Jake Skywalker. And for the record the Saga of Darth Vader and Anakin being a chosen one was created on the prequel. So Dark Empire came out before that, at least in the comic it wasn't undermining balance of the force because it wasn't even a thing. in Disney they did undermine Anakin being the chosen one by having Rey bring balance to the force by defeating Palpatine/Sidious. Because if Anakin didn't kill Sidious and destroy the Sith he wasn't the chosen one.
Amen to that my friend. There’s a reason why Star Wars is the only franchise where there hasn’t been and never will be reboots, rebranding, etc. it’s literally the only blockbuster franchise to exist without having multiple iterations, etc. It keeps pushing and moving forward. That makes it the most respectable franchise out there.
@@orainefoster8316Star Wars respectable??? Wtf ??? It was soft rebooted in 2015. Star Wars is dogshit now, it’s literally a hells cape of mediocre tv shows, rushed out cash grab films. The new trilogy sucked, 1-3 were mediocre, the d+ shows suck, cartoons besides clone wars suck, it’s retconned itself every movie. “Respectable” go watch lord of the rings for respectable
Thank you for the Star Wars The Skywalker Saga marathon and also the rerelease of The Phantom Menace, you have inspired us to come back to the movie theaters!!!
If story is everything to Star Wars then they should hire better writers and give Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni more creative freedom and directive roles so they can give us the best Star Wars movies possible!
Wait a second im i tweaking did I just see some skeleton crew footage 4 kids in a ship at 0:45 to 0:49 the ship looks similar to the falcon im pretty sure that is definitely characters from skeleton crew sneaky
@@The2ndQuest I stand by my point, wasted potential Especially since Faloni still considers them canon to stories we won’t ever see Luckily some were made into books
@@that-1-boi Well that's the good thing- they still "happened" so we may still get to see them (or parts of them) through the years, in one form or the other. For instance- it has been speculated that the one Tales of the Empire episode is actually set during the events of Son of Dathomir, not Massacre. Even if that doesn't end up being the case, it's a good example of one way those stories can be shown from different POVs, etc. Bad Batch is another example where parts of a TCW story were reworked into a new episode as well.
"What do we want to say to the world and how do we use Star Wars to do that?" If you start with the message first, the story will suffer. When you craft a story, the story will tell you what it's about and how it wants to be told.
Story used to drive everything. Then Disney got a hold if it. I love how this official Star Wars vid sits at 17 thousand views while Jenny's recent takedown of the Star Wars hotel is at 5 million. Says a lot about Disney has utterly failed this brand
Story drives everything Into the ground Into bankruptcy Into South Park deserved parody Into ruining 2 franchises that were solid pre-Disney and Kathleen Kennedy. I’ve no idea how Spielberg and Lucas pissed her off but her leadership killed a studio and damaged their legacy. Her legacy is a cautionary tale of pride and ineptitude. Hope her coffee was good back in the day.
@@DavidWaissMagoIlusionista hahaha. you dont really seem to understand how that works. why would disney/lucasfilm remake some movies they did nearly 10 years ago that made billions altogether at the box office? where's the logic in that?!
How can it Kathy? You announce projects without a story mapped out(Sequel trilogy) often no script(Rey movie) and sometimes throw what scripts you had(Obi-Wan).
