Lucid is a sleep company that sells a number of different items including mattresses, toppers, bases and other accessories. In this review I take a look at their 10 inch Plush Gel Memory Foam mattress and run it through a few tests.
The cover of the Lucid mattress is made with a Tencel blend. Tencel is a plant based material that is known for being pretty breathable. The cover is thin to allow airflow into the mattress and doesn't interfere with the feel of the comfort layer of the mattress. The comfort layer of the Lucid mattress is 3 inches of gel memory foam. While memory foam does have a reputation for trapping body heat at times, the gel infusion will help to draw that heat away from the sleeper to help with cooling. This layer will also allow the sleeper to sink into the mattress for pressure relief and provide some contouring to the body.
The base of the Lucid mattress is 7 inches of high density poly foam. This is a firm layer that acts as the foundation of the mattress. The base provides support to the comfort layer above as gives the mattress its shape.

I just bought one and had my 3rd night on it and I am absolutely inlove! Firm but just soft enough to cradle all your curves and hugs you but it doesn’t sink in as much as other memory foams. I really recommend this to everyone!

Hoping for a recommendation, I love your bed reviews. I am looking into buying the Lucid gel memory foam mattress based on a lot of different factors; however, I am having a hard time deciding between the firm and medium-plush models (these are the two available for the mattress I am looking at. I am a combination sleeper: I spend 1/3 of my time on my stomach and the rest on my side. I have just realized during this research that my last two mattresses were both fairly firm (currently sleeping on a cocoon by sealy). Because I have slept on a firm mattress for so long I don't know if I would prefer a slightly softer type bed. I don't know if you have also encountered the firm version of the Lucid gel mattress, but I am hoping for some advice. If the firm mattress is less firm that a cocoon then I would go with the firm (I have a fear of sinking into a memory foam mattress) but if the firm is equal to the cocoon It might be good for me to try the medium-plush?

I have this mattress in a twin, weigh 240 pounds, and a combo sleeper side & back. I sleep easily in it BUT often have lower back pain, not enough support for me.

Thank you for the thorough review. Recently I've become predominantly a stomach sleeper. I used to sleep on my back and side. So which mattress is better for me? I currently have an Ikea queen mattress which isn't a good fit for me (neck sprains, right arm pain). I have to sleep with my hands on my thighs while on my stomach...which puts tension on my neck. Help!

I have this in 12 inch plush and I’m wondering which one is softer. Because the memory foam measurement is the same but the base is higher density in the 12. I’m wondering if I should get the 10 inch and add a topper?

i got the 5 inch firm and loved it. till three years later it feels like a plush. great mattress, love the quality, and feel, but just not that it lost the extra firm feel over a short bit of time. im a light weight guy with back issues so now three years later, im looking for a new bed. maybe necause there is no spring support under the foam? I only overheated when using my sleeping bag btw

Yea a coil support system could definitely help the firm support last a little longer. Lucid also makes hybrid mattresses that could be a good fit for you.

I have had this mattress for about 2 weeks now. At first it was super firm and seemed to make my lower back hurt. Now it seems a little better and softer but still not great. Will it get even better over time? If not I might have to get rid of the memory foam mattress and go back to a spring mattress that I have always used before this one. Would love to hear a long term sleep review of this mattress.

@@Kate__123 I really really love it now! Super comfortable and it breaks in over time. Great mattress IMO! It is still a firmer mattress but gets so much more comfortable and softer over time. No back pain or anything anymore. The thing I really love is that it is now super comfortable but you don't sink in overly deep. It contours to your body nicely but you don't sink in deeply making you get hot or making you wake up sweating, like I have heard some other memory foam mattresses do. I highly recommend this mattress if you are willing to give it some break in time because after it breaks in it is really really comfy. The price is also very good! Hope that is of some help if you are considering buying.

I’ve noticed mine has gotten much softer now that I’ve had it for 2 months. I usually like really soft but found that the firmness when I got it was great for my back. Now it’s softer for sure 😂 still a great mattress either way - especially for the price

@@abb4538 Not sure the firmness on mine. I am a side and back sleeper. About 50% for both. This mattress was super firm for several weeks. Almost like a soft brick. It really had no give at all for those first few weeks. lol The longer I slept on it though the softer it has become without being to soft. It is still firm but way better and more comfortable, if that makes sense. For the prices IMO the Lucid memory foam mattresses are good. At least you won't spend $700-$1000 to decide if you hate it lol.

Is this Lucid mattress comparable to the Douglas mattress? I know the Lucid mattress is way cheaper than Douglas but they are almost the same, correct?

They both use gel memory foam but the Douglas has a bit more mobility and bounce to it than the Lucid.

what could discourage a side sleeper from buying this mattress? you rated it quite firm, but you did say it was pressure-relieving. is firmness always a negative for side sleepers?

Too firm can be a big negative for side sleepers but you don't want to sacrifice proper support. I wouldn't recommend going over a medium firm option for side sleepers.

Yep, It's 80" in length, and I have one. Terrible mattress, but great size. I'm 5'11", and a standard length mattress I find too short.

Hello, I am trying to decide between the lucid gel plush 10" and the nectar 11". The nectar is alot more $($181 vs $470 for twin xl), but not sure if its worth the extra $, especially since I am buying 2. We are mostly side sleepers, 200 and 250 lbs, and might consider a topper to get a mattress perfect and also want to get an adjustable base eventually. I'm concerned with shoulder and back pain, mostly from arthritis. Thanks for the info

Both are nice memory foam feels, I would say the Nectar allows for a bit more sinkage and pressure relief, but the lucid sleeps a bit cooler.

I recently bought this exact mattress, is there a long break in period? It’s not plush at all, and the “cooling” effect is actually a furnace that absorbs my own body heat and blasts it back at me at 200%. There’s no give at all, my first night and my shoulder is locked up, hip out of alignment and my back, chest and neck have never felt so bad

I just bought one of these mattresses and it says allow 48 hours to fully expand, but it's been a few hours and it already looks fully expanded. Do you think it would be okay to use it before 48 hours?

Yea I think 48 hours is a bit to the safe side. I generally recommend at least a few hours if not overnight for bed in a box mattresses to expand. You can probably sleep on it after a few hours but it won't have it's full level of support yet.

I know this was written a month ago but just so you know Lucid brand recommends 48 hours but when I called them a few hours after I bought my mattress they said it's actually okay to sleep on it after about six hours as long as it appears mostly expanded. (Just for future reference or if anybody else asks you in the future.)

The Layla is like $700 more than a lucid lol ..I'm thinking most people interested in something like a lucid aren't trying to spend that much. Maybe a good alternative would be a softer foam or down topper on a lucid

Total junk per my experience with my Serbian-made Full-XL sample. 240 stocky pounds and the feel is very firm at first, no soft feeling memory foam at all. Lay in it for a few hours on my back with body heat, and I am bottomed out in a huge pit as if in a bathtub, with very hard sides you can not easily move to... As if sitting on a step. By FAR the worst mattress I have ever bought.
