I guess it’s true then. I always heard that Wayne Newton had an alias name he went by when he was younger so he wouldn’t draw attention to himself. Pretty obvious now that that name was “Steve Hughes”.😏
Wow! I had no idea Lucy could play banjo! I knew she was a dancer but never knew she could play an instrument. Fascinating! I watched her show as a kid. Mom looked like Lucy but bottle blond.
I loved watching this. And I tuned in because I saw LB holding a banjo in the thumbnail. Unfortunately, I’m not convinced that*any*of them were actually playing the banjo. Or could. (I mean they are all doing everything to play back, anyway.) I play a bit of guitar, and something seemed off.
@@adamdooley8977 They we’re really playing. I watched closely. Banjo is not as easy as guitar I used to play. I tried banjo once and it wasn’t as easy. It was a colossal fail. And I knew someone who played. Used to watch him practice. Who knows how long Lucy has played. Maybe at the time she started and was a quick study. I know one thing. I could never stand and play guitar. The darn thing is bigger than I am. My guitar is gathering dust.
@@jackieforestieri3010 wayne Newton is one hell of a guitar player. So I think he might be a banjo player also. There are some clips of him playing guitar. I was shocked and blown away by the level of his playing. He should have played guitar as much as he sang.
I don't know about anybody else but the name Wayne Newton aka "Mr Las Vegas" I will always think of Lucille Ball. Let's agree everybody always has & always will love Lucy. What does everybody else think?
Luci Arnaz never got enough credit. She was a natural talent who could sing, dance and act. She was as good as Judy’s dtr Liza but she never got the same accolades or big movie parts. Luci could also have played the Liza role in Cabaret.
Had no idea Lucy could play the Banjo or any musical instrument! A lot of times this stuff is faked, but I'm pretty sure after watching her chord formations - she was really playing that thing! COOL! As for Wayne Newton - I never could appreciate his singing until his voice actually changed a few years AFTER becoming an adult! LOL.
Lucy played 4 instruments and could really fake playing the violin pretty well - remember comments were that in order to fake it as well she had to have learned that. Lucille was multi talented
I always like it when we get to see Lucy show she really does have talent. One of my favorite clips from I Love Lucy is when she dances with Van Johnson. Absolute class and elegance. She was such a beauty, and talented in so many areas.
I think saying its “her worst series” is a bit harsh. However, to me, the ONLY reason it was good was because of the guest stars not cuz of Lucille Ball’s comedy. Her VERY best show, in MY opinion was “I Love Lucy”. Thats her true TV legacy. I never cared for the shows she did on her own. Take out all the guest stars on “Lucy show” and “Here’s Lucy”its just rehashed gags she did on her first tv show.
144 shows of Here's Lucy, 156 shows of Lucy Show and 180 episodes of I love Lucy (with 13 of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) between 1951 and 1974. By the end they ran out of story ideas. CBS knew Lucy would make money (and did)
The negative comments here make no sense to me. It was a completely different time in entertainment . . . sure, it wasn't the Kardashians . . . oh, wait.
So true...THIS is REAL talent, no matter the hilarity involved. That's the difference for what constituted entertainment back then. The ONLY talent the Kardashians/Jenners are famous for is for screwing/being USED BY, rappers and ballers, having out-of-wedlock kids, and being exhibitionists. They have made their billions by selling their souls...and negatively influencing an entire generation of young women, who not only idolize them, but attempt to copy their EVERY move, to the detriment of both themselves and their reputations...
Anyone remember when Prince and Kim Kardashian were on stage and she had no confidence to move even slightest? But, worth around billion dollars now. Where’s her talent? Not her fault though, it’s people that keep liking, subscribing and all that crap.
Just finished watching the Here's Lucy series (again) and really enjoyed it. All of the Lucille Ball series were good entertaining family shows! They are classics. Started collecting Lucille Ball on dvd years ago...just simple and fun entertainment.
@@codyluka8355 Only "I Love Lucy" was a classic series, as the word "classic" is defined... judged as of exceptional quality, a high standard from which others are judged, standing the test of time. I have the entire "ILL" DVD collection, treasure it, and will leave it to the next generation because as a classic, it will be just as funny in the future as it is now, as it was when they were new.
No sexism...no drugs...no cussing...no racial crap...no politics..no b.s.----.anyway you slice it....more POSITIVE than the last 20years of media!...ROCK ON YA'LL
Yes, it is. He used to play drums in the trio "Dino, Desi, & Billy" (with Dean Paul "Dino" Martin [son of Dean Martin] and their friend Billy Hinsche).
I'd play the Broadway score to They're Playing Our Song starring Lucie Arnaz and Robert Klein. She also was great co-starring with Neil Diamond in the Jazz Singer remake that was castigated by the critics.
I enjoyed this...saw Wayne Newton in 1963 performing in the Safari Room in San Jose, California. He autographed my Danke Schoen album I received as a gift for my 16th birthday.
It surely looked like they did. It wasn't as if they had to play different notes. I watched their hands closely one at a time and it looked as if they were strumming just as fast as Wayne Newton. If that was me up there, I couldn't strum the strings that fast. Lucy had many talents and I don't doubt that she was actually playing. Then again, I could be wrong.
Never understood why Wayne Newton had to dye his hair in later years to that god-awful shoe polish black!!! His natural color was so much better! Also got one of those orangie tans reminiscent of Donald Trump 😆 only his was more of a deep orange brown 😬
I agree. His natural hair color was great. That dark looked ridiculous on him. He must really like it bc you'd think there'd be managers or whoever who would've advised him against it. Guess since his talent far outweighed his looks, he didn't care!
I see Wayne's brother Jerry is still with him at the time this was done. I met Wayne when he was first starting out and he was a very nice guy and was so talented. I saw him at the Venetian Room at the Fairmont hotel, in San Francisco. Our good friend lead the orchestra there and he told us that we just had to come in and see that young man. Wayne was the showman even then. Now he looks like a caricature of himself and I'm sorry for all the problems he has had. I realize he brought them on himself, but it's still sad. He was a great talent.
Sixty years ago, I'd watch TV and the oldsters would make homophobic snark about Liberace, Johnny Mathis, and Wayne Newton. I didn't get it until later. Wayne had a high voice, a lisp, and round hips. At Lake Tahoe, we caught his act and his audience was identical to Liberace's: enthusiastic older ladies. Wayne married an older Hawaiian airline stewardess, who later claimed he beat her, and this is sometimes what occurs when gay men feel pressured to marry. Much later, Johnny Carson instigated a nasty barrage of jokes about Wayne, and I remember it. Wayne just couldn't let it go, and I think that's what put him over the top: dying his hair black, the weight gain, the mustache, then outrageous plastic surgery.
@@dennishalford5763 I heard that long, long ago and don't believe Wayne would attempt such a thing, much less gotten past security at NBC where Carson was its most important star. Wayne was bigger than Johnny, but Johnny had been an amateur boxer when younger, was a war veteran, and had the brawling experience most mean drunks have. So I don't believe it. I think Carson was a friendless SOB who was way out of line using Wayne's sexuality as a punchline, but that's how Johnny was.
@@akrenwinkle I agree! I went to the Tonight Show when Johnny was hosting it. He never once spoke or acknowledged the audience until he came out to do his monologue. During the tape stops while the commercials were playing, he sat there and never so much as looked in the direction of the audience --- not a nice man! Contrast this to Carol Burnett. I also went to see her show taped years ago. She not only answered every question an audience member had until no hands were left up, which was edited down and placed at the beginning of her show, but she would come out during the tape stops for the commercials and ask if anyone else in the audience had anymore questions for her. After the taping was over, she came out and thanked everyone for coming and gave us the date the show was to air. She was the opposite of the conceited Johnny Carson. A very nice woman.
Oh Wow !!!! Awesome !!!! Lucy is The All Time Queen There Can Be No Question.. Exceptionally Talented, Amazing Actress, Beautiful, Smart Beyond What You Want To Try and Test.. Trust Me and of Course Absolutely Hilarious and Had Impeccable Comic Timing.. Rest in Power Ms Lucille Ball 💖💖
You can say it was Cheezy but that was Real Talent on display back I the day. Problem is today….nobody has respect for the older generation…and that will come back around as Karma Nicely Done ✅
Lucie is charismatic, I didn't need Lucy in that act at all. Wayne is so great to watch but it seems Lucie held her own w/ him whether she played that thing or not.
