Grew up across the creek ...cklw boosters in the background.... Less than 20 miles from Detroit....still a Motown boy WABX..WRIF..WLLZ.....WIOT..Toledo.. for those who know crystal bay and hidden lake and white sands was my neck of the woods.. skiers bay and the horseshoes..and what we call the hole in the wall.....
This has got to be the Best Blues track I ever heard, being a young man growing up in Southwest Detroit we were always jamming on Mr Seger....Man what a track...thank you Bob
If Mr Seger had not sung another note, this recording alone would have established him as one of the greatest rock and roll singers, ever. I think I could make a good case that he was, indeed, the greatest of them all. RIP Rock and Roll. Long live Bob Seger!
Thanks for this. This is the first song I heard by Bob on CKLW. I was 11. My eyes teared up and I almost started a full on cryin' jag just now listening to this.
I remember one night in...oh, '71...going to the Birmingham Palladium, and I was late. It was one of many many times I saw Seger there or near there. I heard Lucifer playing from just outside the building. It rocked all of Birmingham solid. It's like the walls were just shaking all around. One of the most rocking songs I've ever ever heard!
Plus...I met Seger at a party once and we talked for about a half hour about music, and it doesn't hurt that he's a really really super nice guy---and everyone I've ever known who's met him concurs!
Pretty neat video to another old classic song... The cartoon was a Disney short around 6 minutes called "Hell's Bells" which was made around 1929... great job to the one who made this!
I swear the cartoons made back then were soooo odd and creepy. My daughter used to find these types of cartoons and prefetred them to Warner Brothers and Disney. She watched the oddest ild cartoons like this one. And she turned out pretty normal. Not a songle tattoo, ear pierced but rarely wers earrings. No Goth look growing up. Just loved those weird cartoons!! Fits the song perfectly.
I grew up in Detroit and definitely dug this album and Smokin Op's. I saw the Bob Seger System playing at the Detroit Auto Show (gotta start somewhere I guess) and at the Lincoln Park Theater (as in movie type theater). Great stuff!
RU-vid may just be the greatest idea/invention in history. Rarely(if ever) is it that I can't find what I'm looking for, and it's utterly amazing the journey it takes you on once you start and end up finding and watching things you never even thought of or intended. It's abso-fucking-lutely amazing. Oh and thank god for tabbed browsing!! lmfao
'Cruisin' on the gray snakes'. Brings back memories of Downriver Detroit. So many bikers, bars and Bob Seger was a permanent show at the Lincoln Park theater for years. Lots of characters and life here back then.
no doubt....the D has a long musical history to be proud of...the bike races on Fort and Woodward and Michigan Ave to Telegraph from Waterford to Flatrock....and all the gin joints in between
Always loved Rockin Robert Seger.... Puts on a great show. Favorite song is 2 + 2. Keep rockin Bob. Would like to go to another concert....... Bill in Clinton Township
2:20 of growling, driving soul rock. The video that is posted with this was one well done piece of editing. Normally not into animation from this era but it was stellar. One of my all time favorites of his and remember hearing it as a 5 year old on the kitchen radio when my older siblings had to watch me. I re-watch this on the regular. Thank you for posting this.
Screaming along in the Attic. Incredible performances. There are live vids from early television appearances of this. Sometimes they don't get took down quickly.
I remember hearing this for the first time back in the 69'/70' time period. I LOVED it!! I keep it up on my desktop to listen to whenever I can; it's the best rock n' roll song I can think of! :) Yeah!! :) Thank you for putting this up here. :)
@@officialbobseger39 did you really reply TEN YEARS later? What the???? FYI, I will almost 00% for sure be dead in ten years. You should try to reply sooner.
Never heard this early rocker. Seger is equal parts rocker and balladeer. He does both extremely well. Also he's written and recorded so many damn good songs. ( This one here ), Ramblin Gamblin man, Against the Wind, Fire Lake, You'll accomp'ny me, Shame on the moon, Heartache Tonight, Mainstreet, Night Moves, RocknRoll never forgets, Turn the Page, Old Time Rock'n'Roll, We've got tonight, Still the Same, Hollywood Nights. All good songs. Even his ballads kick ass.
The Big 8, CKLW, AM 800 (Windsor, Ontario, Canada). We used to listen to it all the time, because a lot of cars way back then didn’t have FM radios. For those who don’t know, Windsor is right across the Detroit River from Detroit, Michigan.

Is that on Northline Road in Southgate, Michigan? I grew up Downriver (Melvindale). My older sister said that she saw Seger play at Allen Park High School around that time.
if you think seger did nothing but rocking songs like Lucifer before 1975 you dont know his music. between 1969 his first lp to 1973, back in 72 lp there are 6 lp's well over 60 songs and you wont find 20 songs of your so called rock as you put it, so motor where is all this rock you are talking about pre-1975..

No that ain't the way it happened. Bob was still playin' bars 31/2 years after CCR played Woodstock. Bob was around back then just not sellin' records or getting airplay. t
Along with Motown music (too many to list), Ted Nugent, Eminem, Kid Rock, etc. And Vernor’s ginger ale, Stroh’s beer, Tigers baseball, Red Wings hockey, and helping to put the world on wheels with the automotive industry. 👍🏼
