"Do you pop out at parties? Are you unpoopular?" This is one of the funniest things ever aired on TV, even all these years later. I Love Lucy still holds up even after all this time!
I think the funniest part is when she first tastes it. The faces she makes, and the way she shakes is PERFECT. And the line "just like candy" is the cherry on top.
She was the perfect clown ❤, and Desi helped with that. In this case he knew she hated sweets. He told the prop guy put honey in that bottle, it won’t hurt her but boy will she react! She was ready to hate it, and she sure did! In Florida when she and Ethel had to carry that tuna from hotel room to hotel room he had the prop guy buy a real tuna at the fish market! Both girls reacted to it! It smelled bad, it was slimy! Desi was brilliant too. In real life he was the funny one, Lucy was not a funny person and didn’t think Lucy Ricardo was funny! She did what she was told and enjoyed the audience responses! She was a great clown!
@@jeffreymartin6369 She was also technically and socially brilliant. It was her idea for the three camera system that's now SOP for all TV sit-coms with live audiences. It was also Lucy who fought for Desi to be her husband on the small screen, as CBS bureaucrats were initially dubious about glorifying a "mixed" marriage! On the other hand, it's a shame that Desi couldn't be as maritally faithful in real life as Ricky Ricardo was on the series.
Lucille Ball's comic timing was perfect. She was a trail blazer for female comedians and business women. I never get tired of watching this episode. Lucy was Brilliant.
@susanrich7700 that is when RickyDesi comes and goes hello Ross Hello Lucy I want to see about that number. She starts the commercial and you can see Ricky cracking up but doing his best not to ruin the take. This was by far one of the best comedies
This is, without a doubt, one of the best moments in television. No matter how many times I see it, it still makes me belly laugh. Thanks for the hilarious memories, Lucy and Desi.
@@adonaiyah2196 Red Skelton, One of the Funniest Men, Comedians in Show Business, Lovingly referred to as "One Of America's Clowns" allegedly told Lucille Ball: (paraphrase) "the reason show business doesn't know what to do with us ( meaning Film/Movie-Career wise ) is because we're Clowns" ... A Great Compliment ... !!! Lucy Was A Beautiful, Brilliant, Talented Clown Extraordinaire ... Watch the Clip of Her On Phil Silvers Show: CBS Opening Night 1963 - "Slowly I Turn" ...
She immortalized a non-existent vitamin supplement and this is one of the golden performances that immortalized Lucy. I Love Lucy was the only TV show my Spanish grandma would watch back in the day. My granny knew very little English but Desi Arnaz often spoke Spanish on the show and, even when he didn't, Granny would understand what was happening anyway and she would laugh heartily because Lucy's style of comedy was universal.
"The Lucy Show" pops up every now and then on various Networks. And I am very sure that they can be Streamed. Both Harvey Korman (in Black and White) and Miss Carol Burnett (in Color) Guest Starred on Lucy's followup to "I Love Lucy."🤔🎤📺B.W.
The greatness of Lucy was her wise choice. She was remarkably and stunningly beautiful. She could have played the sultry femme fatale easily with loads of glamor and class. But she gave us much more. So very much more.
This is one of the most famous comedy routines in television history. I doubt that when she did this, Lucille Ball had any idea how famous and legendary it would become over the decades
Miss Ball was a perfectionist with more self-discipline as an actress than anyone else in her era as well as forthcoming generations. She was a legend in her own time; but not for the sake of ego.... She was continually fine-tuning her talent and potential. Her originality, creativity and talent in this Timeless character of 'Lucy' in this series is "classic"; as well as the 'I Love Lucy' series itself is a Timeless Classic. A fine example of her talent is evidenced in the program that features Harpo Marx 👏. The blending of the two characters is perfect, with impeccable timing. I've never seen such an amazing, compelling example of talent, such as Miss Lucille Ball's in this performance. She is an artist that began as a model, dancer, and movie actress, with much versatility as seen in various movie roles, some early roles of course infused with a distinct humor that is only her own. She truly is an actress that is a "Timeless Classic."
The actor playing the TV director (straight man to Lucy's comedic genius) is Ross Elliott, who had a long career as a supporting actor in movies and TV. Elliott often said that doing this bit was the most fun he ever had on the job. But he chewed his tongue bloody to keep from laughing out loud facing Lucy while she did this bit.
being a 1990 born Octoling, I always thought of this scene as being the Epitome of feeling "Drunk as a Skunk" and after many a time of drinking after turning 21, I can confirm this. Lucille Ball really hit the nail on the head with her acting hammered. Hey-oh~!
The G.O.A.T The Legendary Great Queen Ms. Lucille Ball RIH RIP. Wouldn't miss a show when I was little. ❤️Ed the whole cast. They didn't curse and still made tears come out your eyes and had you holding your stomach.
This is the first "Lucy" episode that I ever saw.. When I was a little girl, my mom sat me down in front of the tv and told me to watch this because it's really funny. Heavenly Shout Out thanks Mom!! I Love Lucy
OMG. My FAVOURITE scene! She makes me CRY with laughter!! 🤣🤣🤣 DRUNK Lucy is even more HILARIOUS than regular Lucy!! As if she wasn’t already enough… “It’s so tasty too. Tastes like candy. Honest! HA HA HAA” 😂😂😂
Absolute genius. There’s a funny story about this episode, the director of the commercial was also the director of the I Love Lucy show and he said it was a good thing that his back was to the camera because he was absolutely cracking up.
Another fine old skit from another fine old actress & comedienne. Her expression on first tasting the stuff was priceless.🤣 I watched her different shows when I was a kid and teen. Besides comedies, Lucille Ball also did some movies. She also did some old radio shows. She and her husband Desi Arnez also owned the DesiLu TV studio. RIP Lucy. We still love you! 💖
Lucille was the star of the show, and she made it happen on stage, but Desi was making making magic behind the scenes! Married 10 years he knew she hated sweets! He told the prop guy to put honey in the bottle, and make sure she didn’t know. It won’t hurt her but boy she’ll react! He knew reality was funnier than fiction! She could clown like crazy, I’d never try to take anything away from her because in reality she was a very serious person. She was a taciturn sardonic woman. Her idea of humor was to catch a friend returning from the bathroom for example and say to someone else in the room, “well here she she is tell her to her face! Go on, tell her what you told me!”
@@karenbrown2135 her friends teased her about her lemonade! It was so sour no one wanted any! She’d say who wants lemonade? NO BODY. Five lemons and one or two pink packages of sweetener. The honey had to have been like poison! Desi also had the stage hand get a real tuna when she and Ethel were in Florida in the fishing competition with the boys! They were going to use a prop but Desi no, get a real one at the wharf. It was slimy and smelly which helped the girls on camera! He always said reality is much funnier than acting, anytime you can get a real reaction it’s better. Lucille would ham it up too when the audience reacted. I’m a biography nerd, so I’ve read a lot. One more tidbit… that Uh Oh.. we are all so familiar with from the audience? That’s Didi Lucy’s mom. She was at almost all the tapings. If you pay attention you’ll hear Desi laughing too often
Everytime I watch this I laugh my freaking ass off I used to watch I Love Lucy from over 30 years ago Lucille Ball is definitely the funniest woman in Show Business comedy ever this scene just cracks me up so much that I have tears in my eyes especially when she starts singing with Ricky rest in peace Lucille Ball you are the best Numero Uno
Lucille was the best! Definitely a classic 😂 I was laughing watching this scene, then Jerry Lewis popped in my head thinking how funny if he dropped in and both drank the vitameatavegamin... 😂
He did a similar skit in the Colgate comedy hour with a really gross tasting drink in the Photographer sketch with Dean Martin, you should check it out!
Gilda Radner reminds me of LB too, especially her voice - when Gilda would be in a solo skit as a hyper and imaginative kid playing by herself in her bedroom.
I still laugh my ass off with this skit. Hilarious!!!!. She was the QWEEN OF COMEDY AND NOONE WILL TOP HER. I can watch her gizzilion times and still cant stop laughing. RIP TO U ALL. .😇🥰🤗😢😢😢😢💔👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Vitaeatavegamin, the scene where she's in the boiler room with Ethel trying to listen to Desi's conversation, but a neighbor keeps on interrupting and the nose burning skit are my favorites!
weird that this cuts out part of lucy's drunk singing. at some point she stops while ricky is singing and walks over to the camera and says hi to fred and ethel at home.
I love this one. I watch it way too many times. Every day if I could. Lucy and I are just a like. Every time I watch it, it is just like the first time I ever saw it.
point blank one of the funniest people to ever live... i can almost understand desi's inferiority complex... lucy cast an enormous shadow... it was impossible for him to be seen as anything other than... "mr ball"...
