One thing still bothers me. Why bother with a huge ass canon if the bomb had a timer? Like, couldn't you just burry it in the middle of the city? If you think that someone would notice them digging - well, they didn't notice Baroque Works while they were mounting a huge ass canon on top of the tallest watchtower did they?

The warlords are just a group of pirates contracted by the government to capture other pirates. They’re picked because they’re strong in their various fields, so they’ll be feared by other groups they go after or might try to go after them, and to act as a deterrent. Beating one doesn’t mean you earn their spot, its an invitation-only kind of thing.

luffy basically gives up that right anyways when he shoots down a certain flag...once he did that like ace before him there was no going back...the marines would never offer him a warlord status spot anyways...it was done by then...

@@razkable Agreed with Moose. There’s no reason to mention anything about that yet. And this is significantly before then, so why bother bringing something up 150 chapters from now when he’s just finishing Alabasta and asked a simple question about whether or not this means Luffy’s a warlord?

Luffy doesn't call him gator. It's just subs doing their own thing. Luffy says "wani" which simply means both "alligator" and "crocodile". Since Crocodile is an english word luffy uses the japanese word to call him because I guess it's shorter and easier for his bird brain to pronounce

The orchestral piece they played during the climax of Luffy vs Crocodile is called “New World Symphony”, a segment in Djovak’s 9th Symphony, which is used in a lot of other things.

Luffy's never going to be a Warlord of the Sea, because the top requirement is that you agree to work with the World Government, and Luffy doesn't take orders from anyone. There's nothing stopping the World Government from raising his bounty, either; the general population doesn't know the exact reasoning behind bounties, so the government can both make Luffy more notorious and cover up the good he did in Alabasta.

my theory for the whole "beating crocodile through the bedrock ceiling" thing it that crocodile was contributing with his powers on pushing through it. cause otherwise he would have been pulp on the ceiling before the bedrock gave way, so he had to have been instinctively turning it to sand the whole way up to survive.

Crocodile is sort of "hired" by the government as a warlord, so the government/navy turns a blind eye to any crimes he commits and in return they call on him if they want to capture other strong pirates or whatever, that's why he was able to cause so much chaos in Alabasta. The navy will cover this up because it can be seen as they allowed, or in a way gave permission, for crocodile to do as he wants. The straw hats stopping crocodile is basically them doing the navy's job

The seven warlords is a title given by the World Government so they attack other pirates in exchange to have a degree of government protection, you don't take it over if you defeat one of them. It's like a Corsair in real life history.

the thing is that most pirates don't want to be war Lords as you are seen as dogs of the military and a pirate who sold out to the government. luffys whole thing is that he wants to be free and find one piece which he can't do as a warlord. strong pirates usually don't want to be warLords and if they do it usually has a alternate motivation

You have to understand that Crocodile was working for the world gov. That means this incident would be the givs fault cuz they dont have their own people under control. But not just that, also they didnt manage to handle it themselves, but some random pirate group had to. Since Luffy hasnt made a name for himself yet it would also seem that a complete no-name-pirate was able to defeat a warlord which would also downgrade this Rank. Thats why they wanted to cover it up
