After listening to this wonderful missa, I understand why Beethoven insisted that this Requiem be played at his funeral. Now I can understand why the solemn Mass in D minor op. 132 of Beethoven is so celebrated and why Beethoven Himself said that Luigi Cherubini was the greatest composer that existed (after him by the way) Well it would only be fair to honor the memory of such an illustrious composer by placing this Requiem on the same level as Beethoven, Verdi, Schumann, Brahms, etc. May all the great Orchestras and Choirs in the world be able to recognize this inescapable truth and program this great work in their repertoires so that everyone can experience the genius of Cherubini, as I am sure that this Requiem served as an inspiration for all of them since it was composed in 1817. The three requiems that wear the crown are Cherubini's, Verdi's and Mozart's great requiem. Can you imagine a concert of the Dies Irae from each of those?

My question is why this isn't preformed more often? Its for sure just as well done as Mozart's, Faure, Dvorak, and Saint Saen's. do i dare say it was done better?

@@peterjohnson9286 Guess what Beethoven also said? That Handel was the "greatest composer who ever lived." Given his willingness to bow down to composers who were clearly inferior to Mozart whenever it was convenient, I doubt his comments about the Cherubini requiem were made as genuinely and truthfully as we'd like to think. The one constant influential factor throughout his life was demonstrably Mozart; at the end of the day, he was Beethoven's favorite composer. (Not to mention the fact that the Mozart requiem was completed by Süssmayr, so this may have diluted his opinion of the parts _actually_ written by Mozart---which, as it happens, were the parts I referred to in my original reply.)
@@MrSpyfelis Wait, but those are not additional movements, they're just two separate pieces! That's why I couldn't find any info about this other version. :D
@@MrSpyfelis This is pretty weird, since Wikipedia is the only source for that info, I can't find it anywhere else. And both the Marche Funebre and the In Paradisum are in D, sounds totally unrelated to the rest of the composition. It really looks more like Cherubini just wrote the two other pieces for that occasion, but didn't consider them part of the Requiem at all.
Hold on a minute. Cherubini's Requiem is good? Why not? Provided you fancy Walt Disney's romantic Cinderella-like soundtracks. However, bringing up Mozart's Requiem, THE Requiem of all Requiems, and trying to even compare it to Cherubini's is outlandish and downright ridiculous. It would be like putting Schubert's Mass in G and Bach's B minor Mass in the same bag. No way.
