The 3DS has two online modes: For Glory (a.k.a. get rekt), and For Lag. If you do online, just don't do "for fun." Really though, I've had battles totally freeze for five minutes at a time. It's not _my_ wifi, mine's faster than the 3DS can handle. Although, that may have been before I got the New 3DS... I don't remember.
