Lukas Martens just BLASTED 2 insane swims at the start of the German Olympic Trials On day one of the meet Martens clocked a 3:40.33 in the 400 free, that is a MASSIVE best time for him undercutting his 3:41.6 from 2022.
I just want 2+ swimmers under 1:44 in the Olympic final. There are SO MANY right in that 1:44 low range (or Popovici at 1:42) that 2 of them should be able to break that barrier.
Good catch! I must have written that down wrong in my notes. Thankfully it’s still fast enough for the comparison at 2:20 to still be true (if only barely)
Even though Martens is swimming really fast, I think Sam Short has even more upside for the 400 than Martens given Sam is 2 years younger and he defeated both Hafnaoui and Martens at last year's Worlds. Can't wait for the Australian Olympic qualifiers coming up soon.
Yeah I'm leaning pretty heavily towards Short as well. I think the biggest upside now is that more competition has the potential to push the winning time further and further into WR range
