If you do end up building another copy of this kit, I'd offer 2 suggestions in addition to your thoughts on the decals. 1 - Cut off the laser cannons, rotate them 90 degrees and reattach. MPC intentionally misaligned them when the mold was made back in the 80s to reduce part count. The crescents on the end of the barrels should go up-and-down, not side-to-side. 2 - Lose the landing gear. It's just too chunky looking for the scale of the kit, and the front gear has 2 struts instead of the single strut seen in the films.
Great suggestions! I agree, and if I do build another one, I will definitely make it more accurate to the film. Hopefully, mpc will re-release the larger version from the 70s with the needed improvements. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great week 😀
MPC has 4 though the 3rd & 4th were just updated for the Empire/Jedi releases. The Glue kits are larger but the Snap kit here is a great intro for new modellers and of course Bandai's releases are great for that too. Great video!
The original 1977 kit was 1/48 scale. This one is close to 1/72 kit. I too wosh they would re-release the original kit as well. It was a decent kit. Although the landing gear could use some new detailing. Ad the kits was pretty basic. But would love to see it out again. As well as the old MPC millennium Falcon kit as well. Even with it's incorrect old mini grain of wheat bulb lights gor the engine it was still a cool kit for it's day. Just needs to have it's figures updated and include everyone not just Han and Chewbacca.
Nice build! This one is a bastard size 1:63. I was also baffled by that extra clear part. How do you spell the paint used for the engines - is it illuminum ? I cannot find it in a hobby shop. I must say, the pilot is quite pathetic, it doesn’t even look like an X-wing pilot!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The color I used for the engines is Dark Aluminum, its from Vallejo's "Metal Color" Airbrush colors collection. Mine came in a 4 pack with Steel, Aluminum, Silver, & Dark Aluminum. They are really nice paints and you can use them straight out of the bottle in an airbrush. Thanks for watching, have a great week.
