I've spent my whole life, well since my teens and especially in my 30's & 40's, being compared to LULU. I've had complete strangers burst out singing "Shout" on the opposite side of the street, and had waiters in restaurants ask me if anyone had ever told me I look like LULU, it became the inside joke with my circle of g/f's when we went out, someone always approached me and brought up the comparison. I was not too fond of the comparison as a teen, in my 30's+ I loved it.
That wee smasher looks even better today. At 73 years old, I sincerely believe she's still a wee smasher but even more graceful and refined, in spite of learning that new language : ) I really admire Lulu. She has done so much with her life and still got loads of energy and vivaciousness.
@@barbarapalmer8224 I know. It IS sad. Considering how huge and loved the were. And still are.....very tough to let go of such huge idols ...and they stood out. Because they were also family MEN..and relatable. ..not just *stars" of fame and fortune
Well, you have to hand it to her, she’s still going 50 years after this and almost 60 years since she started. I got stuck in a 2 hr immigration queue once at JFK and was next to Lulu, despite having flown first class and having had a #1 hit in the USA, she just filed in with everyone else, we chatted away, she was down to earth, cheerful (no moaning) and delightful. And wasn’t Sidney Poitier the epitome of class, amazing star power and humanity rolled into one.
I admire her for staying a profesional artist - she didnt become a Lovie like Cilla Black - having said that Cilla Black ruined her singing voice when she got a nose job - after that she sounded like a cat being strangled - but after all these years Lulu is still up there staying true to herself - Well done Hen good job
LuLu looks so much like her Mother & her Mother looks more like her Sister, so young looking. I’m glad LuLu & Maurice we’re able to stay friends after they divorced. 😊
Funny to see the way she's holding hands with Maurice as it was 1973,the same year they were divorced. I met her a couple of times by coincidence. The first time(s) was when I was working for an ad agency in New Cavendish Street. Part of he building was John Frieda's salon and she was often there. Then again around 1983 when I was working in Heaven nightclub. One night it had been hired out for The Eurythmics to film a concert. She came over to the bar and asked if I could keep her coat behind the bar. It was a big (hopefully fake) fur coat. I said the only place was a dusty cupboard where we kept the cleaning stuff and ice machine. She said that would be fine. I remember during the show, Annie said she had heard Lulu was in the audience and how honoured she was :)
I was one of the kids back then - we stayed in 49 Garfield Street. So remember the camera crew appearing when we were playing and running up the close to chase the ball x
She seems more beautiful now then when she was young right then. She was terrific in To Sir With Love. Wish we in America had seen more of her. The Brits have The Beatles and Lulu. What a bummer.
Wee Lulu never forgot where she came from, cleaned up her accent and dialect to be understood a wee bit but still has the Scots twang. She looks younger now than she did then. A wee worker, works hard so deserves her success.
Did she live in Scotland? At least JK Rowling has stayed faithful to her roots. Dolly Parton and Elvis both stayed in Tennessee when they got rich. Michael Jackson and The Beatles just scarpered from their home towns, once they got cash.
@@chopsueykungfu I told u some details... And she wasn’t that cute...!!! Better aging..!! Nicer hairdos, cors after divorcing the ADORABLE Maurice Gibb, she married John Frieda a renowned American Hairdresser. I don’t like her..!! And she never been that famous... Maurice Ernest Gibb is a LEGEND, with his bros... They are among the GEMS of 🇬🇧(and the best harmony EVER)... Period..!!! 💎❤️🇬🇧
Is it me or am I the only one that noticed that when her brothers-in -law came out she turned her face away from them? It wasn't until her family and friends came out that she was totally happy. It was almost uncomfortable for her to be there with her brothers-in-law
Still listening in 2022 to i'll be your friend, i always thought you were an American vocalist. You have a good voice. I remember you in Eruption also.
I was enjoying this vid and reading the comments as well. Oh my..some of the comments were sadly cruel with hints of jealousy. Why would you bother to reply.. This vid was enjoyable to watch, the presenter did a great job..Why couldnt you just enjoy Lulu & her accomplishment at a young age. Peace to all🍂
Awww as far as i can recall her name is only Lulu i fell in love with her song To Sir with Love i was only a child then, then i saw their movie it was Fantastic & found out she got married to Mo i dont know for how long! Great memorie's🙏💞🐾!
Yes the bee gees had more soul were just as good as the beatles because they where flesh and blood brothers the beatles on the other hand where not related in anyway to each other they were four different individuals who were not related in anyway to each other.
So good to see this...i was at school with her sister Edwina...and we were friendly...she came often to my house ...and we used go my sister and i to her mums house on a wednesday night...
I just replied to another comment that I thought was u was just checking back on this to see if it was u, I just looked up edwinas name on here I didn't know she sang
Well she started entertaining at a very young age. It didn't start with."shout" however Man with the golden gun" wasn't recorded til after this program
The body language says it all when hubby came on look at her squashing her self as far away as possible in that chair - she probably was unaware she was doing it
True story..My husband was an architectural apprentice in 1970’s. The receptionist , Elizabeth, announced she was going to lunch when her friend arrived. In walked her friend..yep it was Lulu. Everyone in the drafting office was to stunned to do or say anything. All he can remember was “she was lovely”…memories..👵🇦🇺🇺🇸
I wouldn't say "lose the accent" but tone it down. Let's not forget that Sean played James Bond with a scottish accent. Ian Fleming was so impressed with him that he turned 007 into a Scotsman in his last few books.
@@billhosko7723 Putting aside as to whether she's a talented singer or not, I can't say I've ever found her humble. She always came across to me as far too much up her own arse.
You can see there was little closeness from lulu to morris it was her posture and the way she was sitting it was clear they were on the brink of splitting up.
But..years later,. When Mo.appeared on her show and sang. The First of May Together,. You could see that she still had feelings for him. Or at least,. I thought so. Him, too. I think
@@Farrah300 Nor was she bitter at all towards Mo. She said once that they should never have married. That they should just have remained best friends. She also said that Barry was a wise old owl. That Barry told them not to get married. Hmmm?🤔
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 I don’t think Maurice had it in his personality to be bitter towards anyone. This was difficult to watch as they were so obviously far apart from each other emotionally by then.
I absolutely love the Bee Bees and the first of May. Lulu and Matrice singing it together is a favorite. You certainly can see that even after all the years they still have a special love. ❤
Sadly,Lulu and Maurice's 4 year marriage ended the same year this was transmitted (they remained friends, however, and she went to his funeral 40 years later)🎩

I was born in Lennoxtown maternity as well a few years after Lulu. Don't know if it exists anymore for that was many moons ago. Also grew up in the East End of Glasgow and there ends the similarities between Lulu and my wee self. Some commentators may say "So?" and I reply "was just saying".
I noticed that her and Gibb seemed sort of distant so I checked her out on wikipedia and found out they were divorced in 73 , the same year this aired.
LuLu's body language throughout... a GENUINE, CARING person. Body language with EX... not so good. He took her hand at one point, she did not take his, and did not let go. He should have had to go sit with his brothers.
I thought she was very cold towards Mo. Barry appeared to be “ off.” It’s not like him. Lulu in fact seemed cold period. Certainly she was less then thrilled to have her husband and brothers in laws with her.
She didn't stand to give Maurice a hug like she did for Robin and Barry, but remember, Barry told them they were too young to get married. Maurice also said that all they did was drink.
@@maddylit1643 Yup. In one interview Lulu says that "Barry was a wise old bird!" She was talking about how he advised against her and Mo getting married. She seemed to not have any hard feelings against Mo. Love that she asked him to sing a duet with her on her show "An Audience With LuLu" many, many years later. She said he didn't even hesitate but said only, " Of course!, When do you need me?"😉😊
This episode actually aired on May 10, 1972! There was quite a lot of discontent at a 23 year old being the subject of This Is Your Life! Good job it wasn't 1973, because Lulu & Maurice Gibb had split up by then!
