The Luminkey65 is an excellent value if you're looking for a 65% custom mechanical keyboard with a quality aluminum build and QMK firmware. There are a few small quirks but overall this is a great option at a very fair price of $139 for the barebones kit and $179 for the prebuilt version.

Nice review! I have 2 Neo65s, a Sugar65 and a barebones Luminkey65 (red). I built it out with WS Heavy Tactiles and GMK WoB and it's one of the best sounding keyboard I have. I can confirm the layers are pre-programed on the barebones but I don't seem to have the red light that you do when it's in Mac mode, it came on for a moment like when you change it to wired from wireless but then went off. In regards to the power switch that is very common, both the Neo65s, Neo80 and my QK75n all have the same thing as do some other customer boards I own. I didn't see it as a con probably because I'm use to it now. Everyone seems to recommend the Neo65 and I do as well because it's a great keyboard you can truly customize to a level you can't with the Luminkey. However I always note that if you like the colorways on the Luminekey, just get that, to me it's easily as nice. The included travel case is also a little more premium than some others and is a nice touch, it is included with the barebones as well. I installed Durock V2 plate mounted stabs and once tuned and lubed I don't have any issue. I would prefer screw in but over the last year I have found that if you just take your time many of the better plate mounter options perform just as good and are much easier to care for if you need to mod them. The caps lock switch can be moved over as well which I prefer on all my keyboards. Very happy to see this review, I hope more people consider it after see your video! Oh and one last thing, for me at least, while it took a bit to get use to the FN key placement. I personally REALLY like having a CTRL key on the right hand side of the keyboard :)

@@uchunoko8454 I don’t have a QK65 but I’m not a huge fan of half PC cases, I have one on my GEM80 and it’s ok but I would rather have full AL. Between the Neo65 and the Luminkey65, either are just as good IMHO. Main difference will be if you like the colors on the Luminkey!

Yo, would you say the Luminkey65 sounds the brightest, liveliest, fullest out of all the boards you own? I have an Mode Envoy and Neo80 and i'm really looking to pick up a brighter/louder/livelier/fuller/clackier board , mostly eyeing the Cycle 7 second hand or Luminkey65 for in-stock Your thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated

@@0xBULLgogi I wouldn't say it's the brightest but definitely poppier than others. With all the foam, WS Heavy Tactiles and GMK caps it's a little less clacky than the Neo80 but a little fuller as well if that helps.

Wow that switch under the key is one of the dumbest things I've seen. I see that people who aren't going to switch often wouldn't mind but wow does that seem stupid.

actually no, i used to think of it that way but once you've tried one of those boards with that functionality, you will get used to it. I have a Neo65 and I have never turned this thing off ever since I got this. If you don't use the board, it goes to sleep after a couple of mins. If you will not use it for a long time, you can just switch it to wired mode.
