Now we have the GH7, I realize how much I miss my Lumix GH-S line camera, something that's most focused on best low light, more dynamic range, bigger sensor (a x1.7 this time), and video features.
@@stefanobonetti4952 Agree, completely!!... I still believe that, in some way, it is part of the future move of Panasonic to release a successor of the Lumix Gh5S as well as they did with the GH7: "as a surprise". It does not make that a line-up camera so good, so demanding and so popular is discontinued! I don't understand that!! The Lumix GH-S, at the beginning, seems like the High level Video and Cinema camera Mirrorless Design Lumix camera, the correspondence of the Panasonic Eva 1 (Maybe the Eva-1 should be released first, and than the Gh7-S) I imagine an update Lumix GhS line now with the new technology of the canon c400 "three based iso", it would be nice to see that as well from Panasonic in future camera, like the possible Lumix Gh7S. But this time with IBIS, Digital or Electronic ND, A new m43 Sensor with x1.7 crop, 4k 240p 10-bit with Hybrid AF, 15 Stop DR with DR Boost, about a price of $2500 to 2900.
Geez! Once again, LUMIX is packing their cameras with incredible features. If the few cons you mentioned are addressed in their full-frame systems, it’s going to be wild! Also, how is the HDMI lag? I haven't used their GH line in a while and wasn't sure if it's as noticeable as with their full-frame cameras. I recently finished a project, and my shots at 6K 24, were a bit difficult to manage with its latency, even with all the tips and tricks. Great review dude 🙌🏽
Thanks Oli! Human eye there really isn’t any HDMI lag, and you don’t have to turn the sound off either! It would be nice to hear the record sound when hdmi is pluggin in though. But I don’t notice a ton of lag when hdmi sound is off though for the S5iiX
would be interesting to see the low light performance with the internal raw vs the other codecs. also I would like to learn more about the lens options especially the zoom lenses Panasonic offers .
Hi! Can ARRI LogC3 be used in photo mode and prores raw? Man I hope Panny can add 10bit HEIF so I can shoot all the photos in log and grade them in Resovle. 8bit JPG is a no-no with log gamma.
I agree if this was a full frame sensor I would buy it in a heartbeat. But hold on to your pocketbook… Next week Nikon is releasing the 6iii Which just might be what you’re hoping for!
Enjoyed this, I don't have one of these, but I really need to check them out. I have a couple Lumix cameras but this one looks super! Thanks for the video!
I started with the GH2 and the last one I purchased was the GH4. Yes, I've been off doing other things and I think it's time to upgrade. :). At least I can give my anamorphic lenses a serious workout, especially the Helios 44m/Sankor 16D combo which is newly re-collimated.
@ricohflex777 1 minute ago @4sightfilmsLLC Anyone who says " M43 has better native glass" is either a paid shill or ought to see a psychiatrist. You obviously don't know anything.
Just need Windows and HDMI 4K 60P 4:4:4, its definitely Pany. Got lenses for it, 4:2:0 looks ok through the reciever, but that's because Windows HDR tuner knocks down "limited" spectrum. A pure m43 isn't amazing not knocked up 15 -> 235 on 4:2:0.
I gotchu! I am working on a video rig build for the GH7. There is this top handle from SmallRig that can go on the camera while the XLR unit remains in place. So the handle forms around the XLR unit
@@MatthewDangyou try ISO 500 and 2000 using vlog then use the "color space transform" to convert the footage into Panasonic vlog in davinci resolve let's see how the noise looks. Note overexpose the footage by 1 stop (this should reduce noise in the shadows) this is the best way I've used and seen Panasonic vlog used to reduce and lower noise natively.
One giveaway of Paid Shills is that they cannot discuss a concept objectively. They immediately resort to Personal Attacks. And then proceed to talk a whole lot of rubbish to prop up a DEAD & Obsolete MFT sensor format. The World Wide Market Share of MFT (nearly ZERO) for past few years has shown beyond any doubt that it is REJECTED by vast majority of camera buyers.
But I had 5 minutes of this video dedicated to cons and issues🙄😅 but for sure I think they need a better entry level camera to get people into the MFT system right now the main users of these cameras as Legacy user which is still a market and not zero people😂🤷🏼♂️ but hey when the next full frame camera comes out with similar specs at double the price remember double the price people on lower budgets might consider the GH7 more then.
Like a video clip? If so yeah I can! I probably will do a whole other video shooting on raw (my hard drive will cry though lol) and can share those clips
Brother I ain’t driving 45 minutes to an airport for this video😂 like I have used the car and motorcycle. They work fine. I don’t see myself using train and plane tbh so it isn’t my job to test it🤷🏼♂️ I’m gonna review the camera how I personally use it
Well wait for the used market🤷🏼♂️ like name another camera with theses features and settings though. This would be double the price for Full Frame too
@@MatthewDangyou I'm just saying its really a production camera at this price point ($3900 AUD, and then another ~$1k for the XLR2). GH6 new is $1700aud. I don't think youtubers need the GH7 for the most part.
@@spacelord1913 For sure! I mean this is definitely a powerhouse camera. And yeah for people who don’t do professional video getting an S5ii would be perfect for them for YT. As someone though who runs a video production company that is the perspective of using this camera which is a powerhouse. So I feel like the price is fair, but to your point I am pretty blessed for being in the US where $2.2K is a pretty “affordable” camera
Hello, how are you? I want to ask you about the new Lumixgh7 camera. I have an external recording device that supports 16BIT RAW video, but does the camera accept external RAW recording or is the highest quality in the camera PRORES RAW 12BIT? Honestly, I want 16bit RAW
Great question! I am a pretty basic photographer and shoot professionally just for video soooo 🤷🏼♂️ the results are pretty close minus the bokeh depth vs light because of the sensor size
I shoot with voigtlander mft f0.95 60mm and 17.5 lenses. I want to say that I like the picture from these lenses. I also want to say that the camera itself (the body) this is just a fixator of the image that the lens draws. I have a gh6 camera, very comfortable, very reliable, combined with good lenses gives excellent results. New features have been added to the gh7, but not enough for my personal tasks to buy a new camera, perhaps in a year as a second one. Arri clog3 is needed for professional use, row in the body is also for the pros. Rather, I was waiting for nd filters in the body and a 5 megapixel viewfinder. In general, gh7 has become better, much better, but I also have a lot of gh6 features. Thanks to panasonic for leaving the case the same, it's beautiful. Panasonic did a great job, respect to you guys!
The Zitay DIY CF Card adapter works perfectly S1 and worked perfectly in my GH6, I use a 2TB 2230 NVMe 4.0 from Silicon Power just as good a native CF Express B card. Saved myself hundreds of dollars
Be nice to see a fw update for the GH6 now for real time luts and link to lumix app. Failing that some tech head build a magic lantern app for it to unlock features lumix keep nerfed. They did it for canon just look at a standard T3i and a lantern T3i
There are some differences between S&Q and VFR - at least there used to be. Different codecs, bitrates, less control in S&Q in general. Would be nice if someone looked into it! As in if that is the case for these two cameras as well (GH7 and G9ii).
No that is incorrect information. 4.4K 60fps is for anamorphic shoot and is not open gate whatsoever. If you take a 4k 60fps shot and a 4.4k 60fps shot. You will notice the 4.4k just crops the sides of the 4K shot. It doesn’t get any extra information in terms of height but instead loses information on the right and left side of the screen
Ahh, too bad it's good the more digital look you mentioned. Would love it to have that more filmic, smoother image to it. Along with a different internal type of raw, like braw - Or even better - Red's DSMC2 raw! With all the compresison settings that even went to 22:1! that was amazing... Or a completely custom compression rate without limits! Maybe also some custom dynamic range boost settings - I think the technique used is similar to what arri does, not quite like Red's hdrx. Open gate 48p oversampled raw (I think the Nikon Z8 does it with 4k nraw) But still, this is great!! And these are just some ideas that came to mind
Love the ideas! Red licensing RAW might be a stretch with the purchase from Nikon, but ARRI playing nice with Lumix is a real amazing step forward. Especially still this is the first time any other camera has ARRI log. I would really love to see a RAW LQ. My hard drives would be grateful😂
This is a killer review. I think in terms of features this is a win. In the image dept though i haven’t seen anything special tbh. The highlights just don’t look good to me on anything I’ve seen shot with it. (Granted it’s a m43).
Thank you for the helpful information and review! One side note - I'm not sure if it's due to your preferences for exposing, grading, and/or the LUT you're using, but it seems like the highlights in your videos are somewhat overexposed compared to some of the other footage I've watched of the G9II and the GH7. It makes it a bit harder to gauge the dynamic range of these cameras if we have to guess if what we're seeing might largely be due to how the footage was captured and processed or if we're seeing the actual limitations of the camera. No shade intended; I enjoy your videos and have found them valuable. This is just something I noticed.
Yeah tbh I don’t really review a ton in terms of dynamic range because in all honesty I will just make sure my settings are correct for how I want the image to look😅 but thanks for the feedback👍🏻
Panasonic is a smaller company that cannot afford maintaining many different product lines like Sony and Canon. That's why we haven't seen a camcorder style cinema camera from them since EVA1.
Totally agree if they offered a 60 or even 48 fps open gate I would buy this in a second. Would they be able to add it with a firmware update or is that a hardware issue?
Full Frame, all these same settings as the GH7, open gate 60fps, internal nd’s, in a box style camera (personally I would like the last one). Oh and also Lumix lol For me that would be the perfect camera. Now little things though like if it had internal NDs but no ibis I would pass on that, but open gate 60fps would be real nice🤤
@@seanr1736 ok so like GH5s,Gh6 etc...was surprised to read the fake newsit but sure make sense...still a great cam the GH7 (happy that I finally can upgrade my 2 GH5) but kind of missing a an upgrade to GH5s a GH7s with maybe dual ISO 400-5000 (GH5s is 320-2500) but probably because of the dual gain tech for DR not doable...maybe a triple native ISO like canon C400😂😂😂in 2028
Well it can handle it. Otherwise why would ARRI licensee it. Lumix is the only other current brand that has an ARRI log color profile. So high end productions will buy 10 of these cameras purely for a crash cam🤷🏼♂️
@ollek compare to what only camera outperforms or match this in price range is xh2s or a7iv to less extent it has dynamic range over gh7 that's it. Other cameras basically don't even have open gate image look too sharp dynamic range is the same with digital looking image like canon r6 mark ii or nikon z6ii both are dogwater when it's come to video.
That’s like saying a Ford focus is nearly a perfect car… It’s not, it’s a piece of crap. I’m not saying the GH7 Is crap… But who in this modern age would buy a micro 4/ thirds camera. That’s insane. I’m sure Panasonic will come out with a full frame version of this camera.
I think it just because of the GH6 AF, the G9II by exemple has the same details output than the GH6, but when comparing both using AF-C the GH6 AF is just not accurate and looks softer.
@@level6visuals363No, only if you shoot in extreme conditions and your G9II overheat, I never had issue with mine. Proresraw is good on the paper, because it will remove bad NR and sharpening but the files are so huge, you need lot of storage but also time. I don't think a lot of people will use it. Maybe I would have upgraded from my GH6 and G9II if the GH7 got the same colors than the GH6. But even if the colors were the same I don't know because I have some focus accuracy issues on my G9II and some lenses in video, sometimes nothing is in focus. The GH6 is useless in AF-C but at least it has no accuracy issue when using AF-S.
GH7 will NOT save MFT. It will not significantly change the market share of MFT. As other reviewers stated, GH7 is much inferior to real professional video cameras. So you won't attract the Pros to buy this GH7. As for the total newbies and novices the GH7 will not attract them as the price is too high and the video features of GH7 are not meaningful to novices.
Wowie, well this camera is definitely gonna hit a new market though with ARRI log allowing it to be a crash camera for the industry will be huge. Now the price will change over time too and they will be cheaper. But idk lot of people’s heads are turning seeing what this camera has to offer. The hard part is though it isn’t full frame but for the legacy market this camera is what people have been asking for🤷🏼♂️
Which “pro’s” are you referring to? If you mean strictly cinema camera shooters, then maybe not. But mirrorless users will be all over this camera. Stop it the nonsense. All these baseless forms of conjecture are played out in 2024. Try again. Lol
Bro, the “LUMIX HATE” is so ridiculously real 😂 People go off into tangents about M4/3 not good enough, Sony/Canon being unbeatable or intentionally overlooking all the advanced LUMIX internal features over other brands. Reading all the “Educated Feeling Based comments are getting tedious especially from people who are not going to buy the camera. If ARRI personally designed an Official ARRI Lut for the GH7 and GH6 to be a C Cam or Crash Cam for ARRI, I don’t know what to say about people dumping on this Camera with personal feelings. It’s not for “You” we get it but a whole comment of negativity 😮😅
And what I said was M43 has better native glass *with AF than its APS-C counterparts as well. But I like how you have jumped on the FF or bust bandwagon. Maybe try and have your own voice moving forward. Lol
@@MatthewDangyou You should point that out but you do know that Lumix will come after you if it ever get popular for trademark infringement. It best to let your audience know this since it gives more transparency. Good luck and fair review. 👍
@terrygriffin5201 actually logo trademark is in the works, plus I’ve talked to Lumix in person already about it too and they offered to even wear a shirt in livestreams👍🏻 the word and design LumixCreators is not trademarked either too (yet) but worth the thought :) Thanks!
*@**7:38**: Uhhh, I don't think you're using Arri Log C. You have to pay $200.00 as it is a licenced paid upgrade to activate on your camera. You just think you are using it (????) Have you confirmed the Arri Log "C" licence is activated on your camera ? Your Teal tint colour grade really does not make your footage look very good on RU-vid. I want to see what the GH7 spits out NATIVELY, and messing up a grade is not my idea of presenting a camera in a fair way for an accurate evaluation of its image and colour performance.*
To be fair, I have never played with ARRI log footage, and just would want the same look that I get with my VLOG. But I was using ARRI Log C3 for those shots though. I just graded it a bit longer than my VLOG
