I've had an X1 for a little over a year now. I really disliked it when I first got it as it had the wrong firmware for the kind of biking I do; but LUNA fixed it right away when I took it back down to their El Segundo location. You need to reroute your front brake hose to go inside your fork stanchion/slider, the current set up leaves it open to snagging on bushes, or worse, so I'd fix that. Also, as an interim measure, you could inject some Slime sealant (or whatever kind you prefer) into the tubes your running now. I did it as a temporary fix on my rear tire and it's held good pressure for several months now. Ebikes are by their nature going to ride differently than acoustics, and you'll probably be replacing brake pads more often than on a non-motorized bike due to the weight requiring greater stopping power; thus, the 4-piston brakes. There are adjustment screws on the derailleur to fix the shifting problem you're having, and you can find several RU-vid vids to help you do that if you're inclined. Good luck with your X2. I've also got a Trek Rail 5 ebike which cost a couple grand more than the X1, but I'm actually a bit biased toward the LUNA, even though I did have some initial problems (my derailleur exploded a couple weeks after I bought the bike. It now sports a GX).
Luna has upgraded the X2(more $$). Better front & rear suspension. Can also order the Lud. controller to upgrade your bike $350. Luna has DIY video. Thanks for your info helping me purchase my X2.
Z1 would probably be worth it for the better suspension. The DNM suspension is kind of clunky, so I will probably upgrade that sometime in the future. I don't think the Ludicrous controller is worth it for me. It will wear out your motor faster, and put more stress on other components of the bike. I've had no issues with the normal controller and power. If I wanted to never pedal, maybe the ludicrous would be worth it. However, if I don't want to pedal, why am I getting a bike at all. I would get the Sur Ron if that was the experience I was looking for.
I'm curious is the computer independent of the power delivery and gear hub? I guess what I'm trying to ask is if you crash and destroy the computer can you still ride the bike under assisted power? Thank you for showing us that can be written like a regular mountain bike.
I’m not sure. You would have to be in a pretty bad crash to destroy the computer though. If you destroy that, you’ve probably destroyed other parts of the bike to make it unrideable anyway. The computer is what tells the motor how much power to assist with, so I kind of doubt it will work without it. Although, you can just pedal it if the assist is not functioning.
Yeah... you can add racks. But you will have to check clearance and mounting based on how the suspension moves. Options may be pretty limited. Trailer might be a better solution depending on your needs.
After over a year of riding different stuff, I'm still enjoying it! I think the new ones with the rockshox are better, but I've left my suspension the same so far.
Thanks for taking the time to review your bike. Just wondering if you are still happy with the purchase. Am considering getting one, talked to Scott at Luna. He reiterates, the bike will overheat if pushed hard(Eric in his video says the same). Considering getting the optional Ludicrous controller. Have you had any overheating problem, is this issue a deal killer???
I haven't had any overheating issues, but I also don't have the ludicrous controller. I would imagine that ludicrous controller puts a lot of additional strain on the motor, but I'm no expert. I've been very happy with the bike's performance without the ludicrous controller.
@@ls6777 Thanks for your response, helps. None other owners have experienced overheating. Apparently you can dial back the ludicrous controller to stock power controller. Just wanted the ludicrous-c for reserve power if needed. Look forward to more videos from you.
I have the exact same bike and I hate the front shock. I upgraded the rear cassette to a one piece that is much stronger. I put a 40 tooth chainring on the front which helps. I don't how some guys get the rock shock Lyra. I also got a Sram GX derailleur and shifter but have't put them on yet. Also I did tubeless tires and lost almost 2 lbs. Where are you?
I'm fine with all the stock stuff for now. Suspension works ok for me now. Maybe after a lot more riding I will want to change, but I'm happy with it so far. I think all your upgrades are solid, but I probably won't upgrade until something breaks or starts causing performance issues. When these tires are toast, will definitely be looking at tubless tires though. That sounds MUCH better.
@@ls6777 It is very easy to go tubeless on the stock rim and tire. I just took the tire off the rim, removed the exist rim tape and put some Stans rim tape on the rim, put everything back together pumped it up until the tire seated then let the air out and put 4 oz of Stans sealant through the valve stem and I was good to go. I feel much safer off road with stans in my tires.
@@LarryRichelli On the upgraded X2, the tires are tubeless but the rims are not. Luna admits you can tape up the rims to go tubeless but they don't guarantee them. Very happy your set up works. How much does your bike weigh???
Don't bother...it will just dislodge and bounce out sometimes without your knowledge...then you will go thirsty when reaching down to grab it and its gone....Wear a sack on your back jack...its always there, with a clean mouthpiece and usually has room for a few tools and maybe a pocket for a no longer need shirt or jacket...
