A short film inspired by the night sky.
Shot on the island of Grand Cayman
GEAR USED to produce this video:
Canon 70D: amzn.to/2Zwowho
Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8: amzn.to/3spRH2j
My family took a week-long vacation to this island in hopes to breathe and spend some time together before returning to hectic life at home in Ohio. The view of the stars from Grand Cayman is stunning, to say the least. I felt inspired to tell a story; I wanted to visualize my imagination at the moments while stargazing.
This project might actually be my favorite to have worked on over the last few years. Many of the shots were taken practically with only one LED light and a tripod. The time lapses were a different story. I dabbled with Magic Lantern and used an intervalometer system to capture photos every so often. Since these shots took so much time, I needed to make sure I had the PERFECT angle, aperture, ISO, white balance, and shutter speed in order to capture something this unbelievable. I was stunned the first time I tested "night-lapses" out; the picture was so clear! After several delays on our flight home, I finished the editing (using Premiere) sitting on the floor at the airport.
I've never done anything this imaginative, yet I'm very happy with the way it turned out. It's something very precious to me.
Thank you, Anthony Gonzalez, the genius behind the music of M83.
Our imagination allows us to travel to far, unreachable places.
The complexity, yet simplicity of it all. It's wonderful.
