Fun fact: When Naofumi purchased Raphtalia, she thought she was going to die since she saw more hate in his eyes than the blonde guy who tortured her. But this moment changed her mind.
@Allen Z yeap one extra/bonus chapter from first or second book. It tells about their first days from Raphtalia point of view. It's really worth to read it.
When Naofumi couldn’t taste his food it hit deep some people who have depression lose their ability to taste my heart was so warmed when he got it back thanks to raphtalia’s cooking
I saw in a video about what the anime skipped that, after he was betrayed he obviously was consumed with hatred. But his hatred ran so deep that it literally impaired his senses, hence why he couldn't taste food. But after the fixed match with the spear guy, when Raph stood up for him and showed how much she cared, he finally began to feel somewhat human again. Which is why he could taste that sandwich she made him
I just realised, the shield translates the sounds to your languaje, but not the words, so naofumi couldnt understand the we dont serve demihumans... HE WAS LITERALLY THE THIS SIGN CANT STOP ME CUZ I CANT READ MEME
@@ArcticFox-s1z I don't know if the anime covers it but in the light novels he can read the language. He's the only one of the four heroes who actually bothered to learn.
I just learned that Naofumi is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa and Raphtalia is voiced by Asami Seto. Both of them, coincidentially, voiced Sakuta and Mai respectively in Bunny Girl Senpai. And that's something I'm absolutely glad to know.
It's either let your prejudice prevail and lose two customers, or put it aside and make a little more money, I'd choose the latter pretty much everytime.
At least he's observant but also doesn't care about the prejudice against demi-humans when in fact he's indirectly following in the footsteps of the previous Shield Hero of protecting and treating demi-humans as equals...
@Katou Megumi Pretty much sums up much of the left these days. They say they are protecting minorities and homosexuals, but quickly throw those groups under the buss the moment they have a different opinion. It's all about pretending to be a caring person, similar to what the other heroes are doing.
@@TheFLAMEXD Because politics is already being forced on this anime. Anime News Network "critics" have stated that the anime is bad because false rape accusations rarely happen, so there shouldn't be a anime about it.
Mate he ignored that shield because he can't read their language Only reason the 4 heroes even understand these people is because their weapons translate for them. But later on he learns to read and still doesn't give a shit so...yea
I am sorry, but I have become what some may call "A max level degenerate". The urge to lewd is always at maximum, and the urge to protecc is at a minimum
@@MrDibara future light novel chapters even reveal raptalia takes to carrying around a bag full of 'treasures' she accumulates over the course of their adventures the same flag is still in that bag, alongside miscellaneous items like the broken knife that naofumi first got bought her to fight with, and ore from the mine they faced the two-headed dog in
Naofumi: [brings Raphtalia into restraunt] Waiter: "You can't bring a demi-human in here!" Naofumi: "Not to worry. I have a permit." [holds out paper] Waiter: "It just says 'I can do what I want'." Also, Naofumi is pretty attentive and caring for someone dead inside. Granted, he's protecting his investment, but that doesn't explain why he would pay enough attention to notice her perking up at the other kid's meal, and be willing to fork over some extra money to get it for her.
Waiter: "It just says 'I can do what I want'." Naofumi: "Yeah, that's because I can, and if you have anything to say about it, talk to the shield... because I sure as hell ain't listening!"
I noticed when Raphtalia pulled the flag out of the rice, she briefly remembered the flag of the village and the small miniature flag she gave to rifana.
This proves that Naofumi is a nice guy and not an evil person (who all the other people are treating him like trash) and that he has had unfair happenings in his life as an adventurer
Yeah, I binged this whole damn anime over one night. I've found that watching anime late at night helps me remember it better, don't know how. The end result is I almost perfectly remember what I watched.
Raphtalia reminds me a bit to Chise. they both end up sold into slavery (different circumstances i know), and end up in a way better situation than they could ever hope or expect. Naofumi my man i respect you.
She reminds me of morgiana from Magi badass slave girl saves the person who freed hers life then has a shitty onesided romance that will probably never get a satisfactory conclusion
@Nicolas Artamonoff Yeah no that not what i original said its like the internet is making what the fans want to hear. What i original said was it looks more of a father daughter thing than a romantic thing.
I'm more worried if I would even be capable of being a good father to a daughter. Don't have a family or girlfriend yet but, children have never really liked me. I used to do after school tutoring for kids and well lets just say I wasn't mean to children or anything but none of them really liked me.
You can tell she hasn't had a decent meal in ages. Even for a local inn where the food isn't *The highest* quality stuff, the first bite and she's got tears in her eyes. Bless this sweet angel
Man i can't...Whenever i see child Raphtalia being miserable and also happy for things others take for given just breaks my heart and makes me tear up to no end
I wish she had stayed in this child form for a little longer. Maybe even just one or two more episodes. She was so cute. And I liked the whole parent/child dynamic between them :)
It is a pain to know, that they missed the whole point of Her initial fear towards Naofumi. For She saw the hatred in his eyes and was convinced She would die with him, fully believing that he would make her suffer until the end. Well, it is Great to See There development even without further explanation of her feelings in the First days but still. Enough reason to buy the manga for me. The anime is great the manga Must bei better.
Can you imagine being purchased by a complete stranger carrying nothing but a shield and a Green Tunic with him and not only are you shocked that he wants to buy you lunch he buys you the most expensive item on the menu as the 1st thing you've eaten in days.
I’m honored to have been introduced to this anime. I’ve never been one to dive into the culture, but a girl I really really like KNEW I would love this one. I’m not a stranger to the smaller minded gossiping cliques life can bestow so seeing this truly rewarded my decisions to press forward quietly and collectively letting my actions speak for themselves. Let’s just say he’s my idol and this girl I’m talking about truly is my sword.
A one-shot spinoff talks about Raphtalia's life before meeting Naofumi, and it's shown how what allowed her to not lose hope was a story that involved a flag. For this, when she sees the flag on the food, she watches it like that.
Still my favorite scene in every story of abused children is when they get to eat and cry. The best one so far is from Erased, God dammit that made me cry 😭
Just realized this after watching the 2 seasons and rewatching this scene, but Raphtalia probably said she wasent hungry because she thought she would be punished or something. Same with the ball. She obviously wanted to play with one but was afraid of saying so because of the poor treatment that she got from the previous guy who 'owned' her. It just makes the fact that they save eachother all the more precious!
She's called a racoon in the ENGlISH translation. I. Japanese she's a tanuki. Different animals the Japanese tanuki is commonly called a racoon dog in English. They are members of the canid family.
There are multitudes of anime with tanuki. So there should be a good chunk of people who already know. I get where you are coming from since half the comments on youtube make my IQ drop just by reading them...
@@0doublezero0 yeah, but the LN was translated by translators, not necessarily anime fans, and for simplicity's sake things like this happen. It's not a big deal; she's still adorable.
Chris kennedy And yet they didn't realize that the animal in fact has an English name, being the raccoon dog Edit: If they had simply done that, there would be no fuss and could teach some people about a cool and relatively obscure animal. But NO we have to follow our professional doctrines to the absolute letter, because anything else won't appeal to anyone!
The reason he ordered the cheapest meal for himself is because he unlocked the first stages of the wrath curse series when he was wrongly accused which make him unable to taste good food or drink. It also makes him see tunnel vision about everyone he meets so he doesn't even see Raphtalia's growth and doesn't trust anyone. He gets cured when Raphtalia makes herself his slave again and he sees her fully grown finally able to see the people around him and trust someone, and he also manages to be able to taste something again. The curse series essentially exist to make the heroes better by punishing them for unheroic thougts and actions and making them suffer through it. SPOILERS Ren unlocks the Greed series and is cursed so that every item he pick's up becomes the lowest grade. A gold coin turns into silver, fine leather into beat down rags essentialy forcing him to be reliant on others unlike his previous lone wolf persona. Bow hero unlocks the pride series which curses him to lose his own will and obey anyone as punishment for how he forced his own views upon everyone and finally spear dude unlock's the shield of lust which makes him see all women (filolial's not inlcuded) as pigs and their words as squeal's since he always only looked at women on the surface and never bothered to know what's inside. He never gets cured probably for the best....
