Russ, I am really enjoying your videos. It's always good to have another perspective. I was really interested in your video about directing instead of driving and it will not play. Great video. Just one question, I couldn't see what you did to get the horse to stop and go and backup in addition to speed up and slow down. I watched the video several times and just couldn't figure it out. Could you do a video on those things. Please and thank you.

How did you teach her to go out in the circle though? Great video and I'd love to use these principles but my pony wont go forward unless I drive from the rear. What were the very first signals to tell her that you want her to go out? And what do you do if they dont understand? Hope to hear from you. Thanks so much.

If asking for a canter would you use a longer line?

Absolutely. As your horse becomes more focused and connected your circle would get larger. To ask for a bigger trot or a canter or a gallop I would be extending the size the circle at each stage. In fact, adjusting the size of the circle every lap or hlaf lap or 5 laps could be something you could add to your repertoire of things that would motivate your horse to strengthen its focus.

Because these videos are about principles, which is way more important than methods. You can figure out your own methods if you understand the principles. But you have to understand the principles. Good horse people are thinking horse people.
