My soul resonates with Luther❤ He was the quintessential love song in my youth. I am 57 years old now, and it resonates with me he was the same age when “The Good Lord called him up” Thanks for the memories Luther❤🙏🏻🕊️
Patti labelle is the most entertaining singer ever she be like forget the melody yall finna hear me! Luther is the king of smooth R&b and gladys can damn sang!
Very ! Patti makes you want to listen even if it’s just for one song . She has this fire in her voice that stands out, and cuts through anything else !
3 of the best R&B Soul singers giving tribute to another one of the best R&B Soul artists. If you love real R&B Soul music like I do, this is the ultimate. The 3 singing and Smokey are all Legends
I don't think there's ever been a Smokey song that I didn't love, and doesn't make me weep. Every single one of them makes me remember a moment In my life and someone I loved dearly.
THAT IS HOW I FELT, UNTIL JEHOVAH GOD'S UNMERITED FAVOUR AND AMAZING GRACE, TOTALLY TRANSFORMED ME !!! I WAS LISTENING TO AN ALBUM CALLED "I'LL BE WITH YOU" BY THE REV. DARYL COLEY..... AS I LISTENED TO THE SONG "ROMANS 10"; I WAS BAPTIZED BY THE SWEET HOLYGHOST.... EVENTUALLY I INVITED CHRIST JESUS INTO MY HEART, MIND AND SOUL AS MY LORD AND PERSONAL SAVIOUR... NOW MY NAME IS WRITTEN IN HEAVEN......, PRAISE THE LORD !!! LUTHER VANDROSS HAS NEVER SANG A GOSPEL SONG..... AND WHERE IS HE NOW ??? AND WHERE WILL YOU ALL SPEND ETERNITY ??? REVELATIONS 20:11-15. LUKE 16:19-31. JOHN 14:1-6. I CHALLENGE YOU ALL TO LISTEN TO DARYL COLEY..., START WITH THESE 3 ALBUMS IN ANY ORDER.... "BEYOND THE VIEL" "WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS" "I'LL BE WITH YOU" THANK YOU...... SO SAD IS THE SOUL WHO DIES WITHOUT CHRIST JESUS !!! HOW IRONIC, LUTHER VANDROSS BOASTED THAT HE NEVER SANG IN CHURCH, YET AT HIS FUNERAL, ARETHA FRANKLIN SUNG "PRECIOUS LORD, TAKE MY HAND....." LUTHER SIR, I HOPE THAT FOR YOU, IT WAS NOT TOO LATE....
I still remember when this aired back in 91', it made an impact on me as a 10 year old kid. I KNEW right then, watching this particular tribute, that I wanted to sing. Haven't been the same since. I remember thinking "whatever Luther is doing to Patti and the audience, I want to do THAT". 🎶🔥🎙 ~Blake
My FACE is somewhere on the floor and my ears are in HEAVEN!! LE-GEN-DARY!! 🤯💫🤯 3 Singers with the most unique instruments all coming together and showing OUT!! No one held back...this tribute was GLORIOUS!!! 💫👏🏾✨👏🏾💫
for me (and I can speak for nobody else)...that was the best tribute to another performer that Ive ever seen. And ALL OF THEM have history with Smokey...so it was a very personal tribute. Gladys and Patti, go back to the "chitlun circuit' with Smokey in the 60s. And Smokey has mentored Luther, since he broke into the business. So, this was right on time. uh, Patti LaBelle?...you are one bad sista.
There was a time when I was a kid we would be having fun outside and when we knew 8pm was coming we all shot in our homes because we knew the Soul Train Awards were coming on and they were going to have singers performing like this. I miss old school singing I REALLY DO!
Patti labelle, my favorite lady, gladis night and Luther Vandross Did a great job singing smokey Robinson song as 3 artist on stage ,and whoopi for the presenting the award.
You know, that part got my mother as well!! When this first aired, my mother was so tickled by that line!! Mama, I miss you madly!! 5/22/1950-11/5/2021
This is and was the absolute BEST - it doesn't get any better than this - never has and never will! For those without a soul, please note that PATTI LIT up that stage and brought out the best in Gladys & Luther (not that they needed any help) ..........Loved when she kept saying SING! Incredible performance by three of the greatest of all time!
Rare good sangin....no auto tune, no pre recorded background singers...I can imagine what my family reunion will be if they were my sisters and brother...
Smokey Robinson was one of my Soul R&B faves back in the 60's right from the time he and the Miracles had their first hit with Shop Around while I was a Senior in H.S. After that they had one great song after another and I and my friends loved them to death. In something like 64 I and some friends saw a Motown show at the Regal Theater in Chicago in which they were the main group.
Luther Vandross, OMG what a beautiful talented singer with a voice of an angel. May he live on in peace and happiness free from the torments and cares of this world of suffering for being gay in a hateful repressing world and then suffering illnesses that nobody should have to in the self-proclaimed "Greatest Country on Earth.
Mannnn when I say I love this right here!!! I love it!! The greatest legends of I seen over my years as a kid till now. I still love smokey Robinson and the rest of the rest of the legends that's not even on the stage with these 3
Thank you Smokey bless you for all the great great music how it lifts our spirits the Lord TrueLy has blessed you my brother praise the Lord for the gifts He has given you and the doors He opened for you to bless the world amen and amen tears
I still find that this is among the Greatest Happenings that has ever occurred in artistic expression. What the three of them did there is beyond all belief.
10:48 and my GREAT grandmother loved your music! And what a blessing that 3/4th of the people here are still with us! +++knocks on all the wood within a 2 mile radius+++
Tracks of My Tears People say I'm the life of the party Because I tell a joke or two Although I might be laughing loud and hearty Deep inside I'm blue So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears I need you, need you Since you left me if you see me with another girl Seeming like I'm having fun Although she may be cute She's just a substitute Because you're the permanent one So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears I need you, need you Outside I'm masquerading Inside my hope is fading Just a clown oh yeah Since you put me down My smile is my make up I wear since my break up with you So take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace The tracks of my tears
I agree. Gladys would have respected the gorgeous melody of 'Ooh Baby Baby' more. I love Patti to death but everyone knows that the actual songs are meaningless in her hands. They're just vehicles for her vocal acrobatics & histrionics.
@@darreylhenderson702 Girl Bye. I can GUARANTEE you that I own more & know more about Patti's recordings than you & the other simpleton put together. I actually enjoyed Patti's performance here! But the fact of the matter is that she completely ignored the melody of the song & belted her way through it with reckless abandon. As she's always tended to do during the majority of her live performances over the decades. I never disrespected or said I hated Patti because I'm a big fan of hers. I simply said that Gladys would have stayed truer to the melody. And I stand by that.
