I had converted almost every switch in the house except the bathrooms due to the prior dimmer buttons. I'll likely be getting some now with the physical slider. Thanks for the great review!

I installed all Lutron Maestro Switches back in 2016 and they worked perfectly with 0 issues. My house does also have a lighting panel which controlls certain main areas with keypads, but I think I will be replacing all the Maestro dimmers with the new Sunnata dimmers as they do look much nicer.

Most of my switches are on/off but if I need any more dimmers, I will definitely use these instead. I'm willing to pay for Lutron. The TP-Link Kasa dimmer switches I have in my condo don't click either - can't say it ever bothered me. Hopefully it won't bother the next owner. 🙂

Reed. So just wanted to let you know. You can set a scene via lutron app and you can set the lighting % to let say 1% ( so I have as ‘Good morning’ ) when you press the arrow up on your caseta it will activate the scene. And if you press regular ON it will go to the maximum brightness. I hope this helps.

I'm at my 75 device limit, so having 3-way switching is fantastic. I might restore one or two of my 3-way circuits back to 'normal' by removing the Pico remotes so I can free up some of my device count for circuits that are not on Lutron yet.
@KyleSchiebel

This looks like a nice update! And I'm with you on the "where was this a year or two ago" comment since I have like 20 of the original switches installed. I still have a few rooms I have not made "smart" yet, so I may try a couple of these switches and swap them with some of my more frequently used switches. At $70 each, I won't be buying them in bulk, that's for sure! As for the three way compatibility and not needing a Pico, I actually liked the Pico solution because it was much cheaper than buying two switches.
@SmartHomeSolver

@GoFastGator
@GoFastGator Год назад
Not needing a Pico (still have that option but Pico remotes use Maestro aesthetics, not Diva) drastically reduces the device count. Also, the companion dimmer/switch is roughly the same $20 that a Pico remote is so cost wise, it’s a wash, worst case.

With all of these awesome improvements, I think that the only thing that I’m left wishing for is to have Lutron-or any of the other major smart-home brands-offer a smart dimmer switch with a built-in motion sensor? Basically, if some brand were to make something similar to the Lutron Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Dimmer Switch-but with built-in ZigBee or Z-Wave support-I think that could be just about perfect.

@alanmoore2197
@alanmoore2197 Год назад
You can pair a Lutron Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Dimmer Switch with a Lutron Caseta switch in a 2 way configuration to get part of this functionality (not particularly cost effective agreed). The Occupancy sensor status can be seen from the Lutron App and the state can be changed but you don't have app control of the sensor parameters or the dimming level and you can't within the Lutron ecosystem trigger events from it (from other integrations you may be able to).

The improvements are great. In my next house I had planned to use Inovelli, but this is now a consideration. But $70? I don't see myself dropping $70 per switch. That's a tough pill to swallow. I'll get my rear end off the couch to flip lights on and off. It'll keep me young and I'll pocket the hundreds or a thousand dollars. That or roll with Kasa.
@LifeWithMatthew
@LifeWithMatthew Год назад
I love the design and hope more smart switch designers go this route, but $70 is ludicrous.
@JasonBrown527
@JasonBrown527 Год назад
LOL, $70 is waaaay less than anything from Lutron's RadioRa 3 line, or their QSX line. It is also less than anything from Vantage or Control4 or Crestron by at least half. Sure there are some off-brand products that are cheaper, but they don't work as well. These things are a bargain at $70.
@LifeWithMatthew
@LifeWithMatthew Год назад
@@JasonBrown527 I have to disagree, there are a lot of very good smart switches out there if all you are grading it by is functionality of controlling lights. When comparing good switches to good switches what benefit is Lutron offering? Brand name and cosmetics? That's not worth $70 to me.
@JasonBrown527
@JasonBrown527 Год назад
@@LifeWithMatthew Those cheap $20-30 dimmers typically use wi-fi to communicate. Not a big deal when you only have a few. But Caseta, which is Lutron's smallest system, supports up to 75 devices. Wi-Fi based switches would significantly slow down most networks if you had even 20 or 30 devices. ClearConnect operates at 434 MHz which does not interfere with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or Zigbee, which are all sharing the same RF space. And Lutron has been making dimmers longer than anyone. They actually patented it in 1959. They have tried and tested more light bulbs for compatibility than any other manufacturer. Chances are that if you buy a dimmable bulb that lists any known compatibility the list of verified dimmers will be 70% Lutron devices. So if you want to buy something and know that it will actually work, but a Lutron. If you want to save a few bucks and roll the dice, have at it. Either way, $70 for this dimmer is NOT "ludicrous".
@GoFastGator
@GoFastGator Год назад
@@JasonBrown527 happen to know what an RA3 Sunnata dimmer goes for? I’m starting to think Lutron is intentionally withholding the Sunnata devices from the DIY market but then again, it’s available as a “dumb” switch/dimmer for $40. Considering the $10 price difference between Sunatta and Diva dumb devices, and the $10 hike for Diva aesthetics in a Caseta device, I don’t understand why we couldn’t have Sunatta devices on the Caseta platform.
@LifeWithMatthew
@LifeWithMatthew Год назад
@@JasonBrown527 Hey, I'm glad you found a brand that you love and trust, but you're not going to convince me that my own smart home set up, with quite a few devices, that is stable and very responsive is in fact broken and has huge delays. The only benefit to the Lutron I see over an equivalent device, of which there are quite a few, is the brand name and slightly superior cosmetic design. And since I can easily have equivalent devices for 1/3 the cost ludicrous is the only adjective I feel adequately describes that price point. But you do you, man.

This makes me appreciate how great Instreon was. I've had all my lights on Insteon switches for over 15 years. Their functionality is amazing, but the reliability was not so good, but they always had good sales so I could stock up for cheap. Insteon also had the most complete product line - switches, dimmers, leak sensors, door sensors, motion sensors, relays, remotes, and a hand full of other helpful devices. I'm able to have my water main automatically turn off if a leak is detected or Alexa turn on or off my water main when I know I'll leaving the house for a long time. It's easy to program timers, my IR remote control can also control insteon devices. I need to decide if I want to keep my Insteon going in the hope that they come back, or if I should switch to Lutron. Replacing all that stuff is a daunting task!

About time! I have been quite critical of their old Caseta dimmer switches here and elsewhere as being too cheap and not at all well designed. Also wondered what was holding them back from integrating the smart technology into the Diva design that has been around forever to begin with - maybe they wanted to have a "disruptive design" but I feel if it ain't broken, don't fix it.. If they had introduced the Smart switch in the Diva form factor sooner, I would have invested in those and NOT have as many Kasa light switches in the house. And even now, I would hesitate switching over since the value of the Kasa switches is much better than the Lutron. Will be interesting to see how well these new switches are adopted with so much competition already in the smart switches space. BTW, are these (or going to be) Matter compatible?

Heck, electrical wiring basically doubled in cost from 2021 to 2022. I put Maestro dimmers everywhere in our new build and I love them. I was planning on doing caseta for select switches in the house but ran into some supply chain shortages and couldn’t get enough so I opted for maestro everywhere because I needed to finish our house so we could move in. For me it’s mostly about the look. I have ELVs in most of my locations, because that’s how PICO remotes look. Having to another casetta look unfortunately would not work for me. I really wish lutron would extend devices to 100 fro 75, as I have two hubs as a work around right now.

I like it. Unfortunately, like yourself I already bought a ton of the old dimmer switches last year. The new price tag is very excessive. Though if I were to install any new dimmer switches, I would go with this newer option.

I sure wish I would’ve seen your video when it first came out. Over the last couple weeks I’ve replaced most of the switches in my home with the old style Casita dimmer. These are a little bit more money, but definitely would’ve been what I chose. Also, do you know if Lutron still makes an on/off switch that doesn’t need neutral? I have a neon sign that doesn’t work with their no neutral dimmer. Thanks.

I could have sworn the light Lurton switches I had in my old house had the delayed shutoff. As you held down the off button the green lights would start to light up and the longer you held it would dictate how long it took them shut off.

How does the dim speed compare to the older models? I really like my current Caseta dimmers because they dim to zero slowly. These appear to transition on and off much quicker. I prefer slower dimming which is more pleasant.

I'm not a fan of the slider. It's quick, but with kids and guests, I don't want them messing with that. I'm still very happy with my Inovelli switches, clean look without the slider. Press and hold up or down to select your brightness, and its set.

I wish they had a pico remote that matched this button style. I have a remote on the wall right next to my kitchen light switch since the other switch is so far away, and it's going to look dumb having the two switches be mismatched. The current caseta switch is hard to hit as you walk out of the room, so it would be nice to upgrade to the Diva.

It is without a doubt the best smart switch. I never liked paying $55 but it was worth it. $70 is a bit ridiculous but I guess I'll still pay it. They last a lot longer and they work perfectly with alexa.

Fantastic addition to the Caseta line-up. I love my RA2 Select + Caseta integrated home. I might be the minority but the fact that it can work with existing or complementary 3-way switches, operates on an FCC licensed band for reliable communication that just plain works, $70 seems like a very reasonable price. You get what you pay for IMHO. Go ahead and roll the dice on other switches that will work "most" of the time.
@nicholasthon973

If you only want one, $70 is acceptable. It’s way to much for any average homeowner to entertain outfitting a house. They’re pricing themselves out of the larger market.

Any word on a pico remote in the Diva style to pair with these? Due to the layout of my house and where the current switches are, pico remotes are pretty much required. Also, any word on one for ceiling fan control?

Great video! I've had problems with the OG Caseta dimmers causing most LED bulbs to flicker or not turn on unless at over 50% brightness. This includes bulbs Lutron says are compatible with the dimmer and work with non-smart Lutron dimmers. I see the Diva dimmer has "LED+". Will that improve LED bulb compatibility?

Just installed the diva today with a halo 4 inch LED recessed lighting fixture. Both are brand new and the LED bulbs still flicker unless I don’t dim them too much. Just fyi.

So do you set up the dimming level for scenes using the slider, or is that just for the local on level? In other words, if someone moves the slider will it mess up scenes?

Would a switch like this be able to be set to only go to a certain brightness depending on the time of day? And also to send a notification at that certain time of day as well? For example, if my kid turns his light on in the middle of the night, it would be limited to 25% and then send me a notification that its on. Something along those lines.

Does the new version fix the automation issue? Example setting the light to turn on to a certain brightness during specified times without that annoying delay? Or does it still ramp to 100% then goes to the automation light level?

This is a step in the right direction. I think Zooz is still a better switch because they can operating in different modes: direct control of traditional lights, or control of smart lights via a hub while maintaining power to the smart lights in the circuit. Also Zooz seems to be able to do 3-way and 4-way circuits using the existing "traveler" switches as trigger devices... which is a quite brilliant design.
@davidc-l9174
@davidc-l9174 Год назад
I had high hopes for Zooz, but I just returned a bunch of them and opted for a Caséta system instead. The Zooz switches were a PITA to connect to my smart home, and I gave up after the first few that all gave me trouble. My Caséta switches, on the other hand, all connected immediately to their hub.

Lutron's Caseta (and I assume new Caseta/Diva) switches can do this too. They show instructions for 2-way wiring set-ups with traditional 2 way switches - but don't advertise 3+ way because the Caseta switch cannot be in the middle - however it can be placed at either end (hot feed or load end) and the instructions apply. Realistically it doesn't matter where it is.
