This is such a true point - “you can’t take it with you, so you might as well enjoy it” I came to this realization when Covid first hit- it was a scary time and we didn’t know what we were dealing with. I actually had a morbid thought and realized what if I die today? Why am I saving these items for special occasions?
@@thermopolis16 So working hard is the solution we all been missing out on?! I JUST have to work hard, yes? So how hard is hard? And is 'hard' still in my humanly capabilities? So, here I have a corny callander quote for you too: "Are you from America? Because then you are scrued anyways."
I love watching Lydia and many other RU-vidrs just for ideas of dress sense, makeup and home decor. But I’m never influenced to drain my bank account on expensive handbags which are not going to be used frequently and lose value too. These are unnecessary purchases and just for fashion. Remember if you follow fashion religiously then you will never be satisfied with anything. You will always be wanting for more, because this is what trends are all about. Exactly what these big brands want from you, your money! 🤓😬
I have an honest question to ask you. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but if all the bags, dresses, cars etc disappeared tomorrow, would you still be happy? Could you live without it all? What would you be interested in? What else do you like to do?
You being an influencer and making a video like this is exactly why I follow you. You always stay true to yourself and never just say something for the coin. The emosh ending of the video says a lot 💛
It's such a shame that people comment and make judgments, and haven't watched your old videos. Watching you (and Ali too) grow and learn, and share all of that with your audience, has been one of the highlights of my life right now and kept me coming back to your channel and blog for years. Not to mention all the hard work, late nights and early mornings that you've put in!
Lianne I agree 100%. People’s petty negativity really irks me to no end. I’m convinced that those who judge the harshest are the most miserable. I only watch channels I enjoy and trust. Like Lydia’s. 🙂
I can't afford luxury designer bags or shoes, and even when i want to purchase stuff from Zara or Massimo Dutti i'm like but do i really need it?! Cause i know next month there will be something else i'll want to buy again...its never ending circle, so now i really think twice, and three times to make sure i really want to spend my hard earned money on stuff i don't really need, but just want at that moment cause its pretty or someone else has it and now i want it too.
I am the same. I’d rather sleep on it and come back to it a few days or even weeks later. Most of the time I don’t want it anymore and then I’m glad I didn’t buy it. But if I do then I know I’ll use it well. To me it doesn’t matter if it’s an expensive or affordable item, I always look at how much I’ll use it. If we appreciate everything we have equally we produce less waste, use it (so it has a purpose) and don’t participate in this fast pace consumer world where half the things are wasted. I also try to buy basic timeless things. I have many items that I’ve had for over 10 years and still love them :)
Lydia, I usually love the majority of your videos, except for all the product pushing😢. I’ve been influenced many times to purchase something that you have worn, and loved them....but I just can’t watch this video. You’ve purchased at least 20 linen dresses, that all seem the same in the past few weeks. I understand the major jist of what you are trying to say, but it seems like you yourself are going for quantity of items. I’m so sorry, that I just can’t get on board with what you are saying, and not doing.....but I guess if it makes you happy, that’s all that matters🤗💞
You made a point. I understand and agree when she says "I will wear this for many years", but when you buy 40 dresses each summer, are there enough days to wear clothes you already had the year before ? I haven't seen Lydia wearing one of her timeless dresses from last year. Maybe it is part of the job, idk, but that looks like an excuse to herself in my opinion...
@@patsystewart254 that is not about that, of course she does what she wants, and what makes her happy. That is all life is about. It is about giving advices that you don't apply to yourself. In France, we say "faites ce que je dis, pas ce que je fais" 😉
Interesting...is there any point, at which we take responsibility for OUR own actions? 🤔 Funnily enough, I've always felt more inspired, rather than "influenced" by the people I follow. At the end of the day, it's always a recommendation from someone, and not any kind of insistent "threat" (for lack of a better word). Holding someone else accountable for the purchases WE make, seems a bit unfair, no? Plus, this video was strictly about luxury purchases, which might have been self evident, had you actually watched it. And lastly, but more importantly, why would one judge how someone else distributes THEIR income? Whether it's a frivolous purchase, or an "investment", is it not their business, and only theirs? 🤔
These are very good points, however, I find it hard to believe that many RU-vidrs nor yourself really follow the "Do I already have something similar to this?" rule - because I've never failed in watching hauls where a new cream blouse or pair of trousers, etc have been bought & the individual already owns multiple pairs of similar cream blouses/trousers, etc.
Thank you for the feedback. You're judgement of my purchases is your own and I respect that. This is the advice I follow through purchasing and I am sharing that. I hope it helps x
5:10 * in addition to bills, mortgages, etc. Savings and investments!!! -Watch some youtube videos, read some articles, an ETF isn't advanced wizardry. -The purview of financial independence, security, and wealth doesn't belong to a select group of men on wall street. They're not smarter than you, they just learned some tools that you can apply to your own finances, grow your passive income, and be able to breathe. -Prada is nice, but if it's Prada or making yourself financially secure, then Prada can wait.
Your honesty is the reason I follow you, and never I get bored listening or watching you because of that; you have always stayed true to yourself - please don’t ever change! I am watching your videos because of your good “influencing” ....I don’t need to be brainwashed 😊
Some of the happiest parts of your channel IS your handbag collection! Because I enjoy my handbags so much, it’s fun to see someone else enjoy their collection as well!!! Thank you Lydia!!
Love love love your advice Lydia! I bought my first ever designer handbag in 2018, the YSL blogger bag in a gorgeous grey colour and embossed with croc print... I have worn the thing to death and am still so grateful that I bought it. Everyone around me thought that it was a ridiculous price for the size of the bag, but I think that it doesn't really matter... for me it's about the joy and fulfilment it brings to you and your life, which could come in the form of a bag, a car, a holiday, literally anything! I haven't bought another designer bag since as haven't had the disposable income to do so without jeopardising other areas for growth in my life, and it's taken time to actually be ok with that - I want the bags! But bags and shoes are not at all worth getting into debt for!! Amazing advice, honestly loved this video and you're so down to earth about your attitude to purchasing luxury! Would love more videos like this xxx
Thank you for the feedback Nadia, as part of my own checklist I do allow myself to determine how many different styles of dress I would like to own. Thats up to me but you can apply the checklist and advice however you see fit x
Could you do a video on all of the linen dresses and talk us through the different styles/occasions to wear? Struggling to find one that would be most versatile and suit my needs! X
mackie1901 its the response someone deserves when commenting a rhetorical, back handed comment. Its her money, she works for it and she will buy what she wants, as she should. You really need to pipe down(: x
Carmela Macdonald its calling living within your means. Her means are much higher than yours get over it and do as u please with YOUR money and budget.
As humans we are never truly satisfied. We keep purchasing but rarely thoroughly enjoy. I respect Lydia’s approach. And while I cannot afford luxury items, I live by the rule that if something new comes into the house something old must leave. Even still I have more than I need. This pandemic has driven this reality home for me.
I took forever to decide whether or not I could justify buying a nice bag and after getting a job offer I decided to buy something I could use for work. I ended up with a beautiful navy blue Coach bag and I use it every day. Such a worthwhile purchase and having something nice makes me realise you should feel good about working hard
Love this background setting for chat sessions Lydia. Well balanced with the sage dress, your eyes and tree branches (greens); your hair and trunk (blonde/browns) ; couch, bust and book (whites) The CD wildflower bag with this sage dress 😍 would be lovely together!
I love that you brought up your older videos! I’ve been watching them (going back to 3 years ago) because I got really interested in your story and wanted to get a better understanding of you and Ali. I love how far you’ve come and it brings me such cozy feelings seeing your life before now.
Even as a 60 year old, have loved watching your vids, your home vids especially. I bet you get tired of the negative comments, I certainly do reading them to the point I don’t give them the time of day anymore. Carry on with what you are doing, it’s a lovely home and keep checking in those sprootlings 😍🥰
Sooz W oh my! You hit the nail on the head. I only watch channels I love and trust, and can’t figure out for the life of me why someone who feels the need to leave such petty, negative comments would bother to watch. It really kills the vibe. I’ve come to the conclusion that they spew negativity and judge unfairly because they are unhappy.
Great topic Lydia, the only thing I felt was missing was to discuss how you decide on 'disposable income' - emergency fund, house deposit and retirement, for example, are all essential long term financial goals and not worth a stunning luxury item now if your future is compromised. I imagine your income fluctuates with the work you do, so how to you plan for that in the short and long term?
There is approx £1500 price difference between the retail price of a kelly 25 vs a limited edition Dior. However, Kellys unlike lady diors actually maintain their resale value so if you want a kelly then go for it! Am I enabling? Yes... yes I am.
I have yet to be in a position to buy something in the luxury range. However, after watching how you now really consider what you are buying in all aspects; clothing, shoes, furnishings, home goods, I have started to really reflect on what I have been doing. I was really trying to buy trendy things. Well, that can end up being very expensive even if you are not buying luxury!! Now, I go through my wardrobe before I buy anything and see if I have either the exact same item already (which happens if in the past you carelessly buy whatever!) or is it a trendy piece that I either won't wear at all, or only wear for a season. At the end of the day, I am a t-shirt and jeans girl who one day hopes to be able to buy a nice, luxury handbag. Your views have changed me in positive ways. I am growing plants now ( I have many sproutlings!) and I worked in my yard today. Just know, I consider you a very positive influencer. WOW...I have written a book! A final note to anyone reading this: these tips and many of Lydia's other tips are not just for luxury lifestyles. You can incorporate them into ANY lifestyle in ways that you see fit or are able to! XOXO.
Agree!!! I’m a classic woman (old soul since a child) overall wether is my clothes, jewelery, furniture, home or cars. Do separate funds or an account for your pleasures . Lydia loved this. It’s so good for the younger generation that are impulse buyers. 👌🏻👌🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
these tips are so true- I've bought trendy items I barely wear, but nothing beats classic, neutral items. And I also love buying things not everyone has, especially for luxury. Spending so much just to have the same as everyone else kind of takes away from the experience, unless it's something like a Chanel or Lady Dior!!
Lydia, I wanted you to know how much I enjoy your frank and honest videos. I am almost old enough to be your mother but when I watch you, it is like being with a friend. I especially like you and your best friend Cary. Also, it is great to see how well you and your husband enjoy each other’s company. Continued best wishes for health and happiness.
I feel like it's been a while since we had a sit down video from you, dear Lydia... This was enjoyable, useful and of course VERY aesthetically pleasing 😊 The filming setup is - as the kids would say - bomb, LOL! Perfect balance. Love
I discovered you via an old video shortly before quarantine started, so have definitely recently watched a lot of old content as well as the new! This video is the perfect example of why your channel is so great; I’m not a luxury person at all, and definitely have different spending priorities, but it never EVER has felt like you’re pressuring your audience to purchase things just because you enjoy them... to the point where you do videos like this with tips and warnings for those that *do* want to place their spending there 💚💚💚
First and foremost, I love you! Your honesty and genuine kindness is so refreshing! So I have a limited Louis Vuitton that my hubby bought for me as a graduation gift when I received my bachelors degree. And while I love that bag and the sentiment, it’s not a bag I truly love. But I feel guilty selling it. It’s also my daughters favorite bag so I know I can pass it down to her. But I love that you talk about not getting the same bag over and over. Finding things that will work with your style/wardrobe/lifestyle/budget is key. And sadly, at 35, it’s something I’m still working on. Tons of love from Texas!
I came across your videos just over a year ago and so I watched many of your old ones before you moved and I remember telling my boyfriend that I was watching a vlogger that has literally stolen the life I wanted, you have done so well and you deserve it all, than you for entertaining me 😃❤️
I always do *second hand designer* (the little I have) 🙈 and even with that, I *SAVE FOR MONTHS* 💸 *BUT* I'm working hard to one day be able to buy full price in store (whether I do or don't is another story).😂 Love the video again Lydia~💃👑💖
This is exactly how I started! I still have my Balenciaga mini city bag which I bought second hand 🙊🤍 and I also recently purchased a black peekaboo second hand too 🙊
Lydia - it looks like your dress matches your eyes! So beautiful! I appreciate your advice because I think you have one of the smartest luxury handbags collection around.
The heated steering wheel portion made me all verklempt, too. I grew up at turns being able to wear, buy, and eat anything I wanted OR living off ramen and buying a single pair of shoes for the school year at a flea market-always the two extremes throughout my young life. Now that I am older and married, life is a bit more stable and a little bit luxurious, and I wish I could tell the young me who went to bed with an empty belly that one day, she would be stable enough that her children would never know hunger.
Am I the only one who gets a commercial ad interruption every 2.5 minutes? It's only on Lydia's videos. This doesn't tend to occur when I watch other RU-vidr videos. Does anyone know why there are so many ads?
You are so adorable, loved that you went back to your old video to get perspective and inspiration. You have come such a long way through all your hard work and dedication to bring good content to your channel. Keep it up ♡
I adore you because you ARE so humble. You ARE privileged but only because you’ve been responsible and worked your ass off. I appreciate that. It’s what I want for my 3 daughters. I think you are a great role model for young girls/women to see what they can achieve. I’m not trying to give you the responsibility of being a role model by the way, but you’ve done well and still have the ability to laugh at yourself which I think makes you that much more special.
😂 in the middle it sounded like that. But thank you Lydia for this video! In times I am basically a low tier troll in your chanel, although I am a long time fan in the same time. Seeing you buy so many things makes me stresses out. As you professions name states it clearly - you are an infuencer and influencing soo many people to buy these things as well. As I am really against flex culture and God damn working in Institute of Environment 😂 I hate thinking that people are buying things they dont need! So I loved thia video and think that you could talk even more about this - people who do not earn money by creating fashion content do not need that many items 😔 and everyone should analyze all the things you adressed in this video + what impact doest this item leaves on environment and communities. 🥺 Make smart purchases!
My first luxury purchase was the Chloe Faye backpack and I do not regret spending that money at all! I had been wanting that bag for years and finally was able to afford it. I use it all the time and is one of my most prized possessions. I love it so much!
WE MISS YOUR OLD VIDEOS where we DONT have to watch a houe Vlog to see a unboxing .....I like your Vlogs but would like syyle videos that are short like this
I’ve watched you for many years and seen every single one of your videos but I never comment. I just wanted to say thank you for doing this video and being so honest. Your tips are very helpful and people can definitely learn from them. I’d love to see more videos like this on different topics around spending/saving. Thank you for being the best, you’re such a good egg 💕
Harvy Raino Truth is, she shouldn’t even have to justify it to anyone! If her and her husband have the money she can do whatever she wants to with it. I’ve never understood why people watch these kinds of videos and then shame someone who buys luxurious things with the money they’ve earned.
I’m a newer subscriber and I’ve been watching tons of your old videos! You should feel really proud you have grown beautifully and this video is proof. I’m so happy w what you said and it means more coming from an ‘influencer’! I got on one kick bc I noticed one day the smeg fridge was gone and I had to find out where it went and watched the entire journey 🤣🤦🏽♀️ your garden is gorgeous & ive taken up planting some herbs too! I hope you get a greenhouse of your dreams!
Great tips! I’ve only ever made one impulse purchase, I walked into Gucci and instantly fell in love with the nude marmont super mini. I bought it there and then and had the worst buyers regret that night, however it actually turned out to be one of my best purchases! I still love it to this day and it has gotten so much wear, I’m so happy I sprung for it but have been sure not to make a habit of it!!
Good advice, but who is your audience and what is the general public’s ability to buy a $5000.00 handbag that really doesn’t do anything for their future in monetary terms? The bags, the clothes are beautiful, but only a small portion of population can really afford a thousands of dollars seasonal wardrobe. YOU can afford it because you get discounts and gifts. You are an advertisement with a different spin on marketing. You are preaching to people not to spend above their limits, yet you want people to do so because that is how you get your goods. You talk out of both sides of your mouth like most of RU-vidrs.
Thank you for this sit down chat Lydia. It felt so intimate and genuine. We all make unwise choices from time to time that’s why we should be careful in pointing fingers. I love your videos. I always come away with something. I have also loved watching your growth, and seeing your confidence blossom. “You can’t take it with you” is a truth we should remind ourselves of often, not just in spending, but in how we make use of the things we have.
Let’s see - luxury regret is a pair of mint pastel Manolo slides that I ordered on sale, but didn’t think to size up half a size. Of course they sold out instantly, so now I’m stuck with a pair that’s too small and not able to be stretched out. Luxury win was snagging a crinkle silver medium Valentino rockstud bag for 55% off. Super pleased with it!
Lydia, you are right - you can't take it with you. Don't apologize for loving your trunks. I have my great grandmothers trunks from when she emigrated from Italy. I cherish every one of them and wish they could share her stories. You bring a balanced and responsible approach to an otherwise over-marketed society. Thank you for your inspiration.
👁👄👁 Me watching this although I never owned anything designer lmao but I love the luxury blogger section on social media! So inspirational for me!! Edit: got to the end of the video! One thing I‘m really glad I purchased was actually a MacBook Air 2018 when I started university. It was soo expensive and I spend all my savings on it but I absolutely love it and it’s worth every penny of it!! So yeah, that’s my one luxury (non fashion) item 🙏🏼
I'm so glad you started this video by highlighting the importance of making sure one has enough 'disposable' income for additional frills, and also that you mentioned these things not being an investment, beyond being an investment in your wardrobe. Great advice throughout, luxury or not.
I bought my only luxury bag (an emerald Serpenti Forever crossbody bag 🐍) on my birthday in Paris in February of 2020 🇨🇵 This was my first trip to Paris and my last pre-Covid trip. Me and my best friend saw the bag in a shop window of Bvlgari, I fell in love with it, and she made me buy it 💚 It wasn't easy to spend so much money for the first time, but it was totally worth it. My most special purchase ever. Love it and will always wear it! 😍
I love how you're advocating for people to have enough money in the bank before spending it on luxury goods. Rarely do you hear influencers advocating on checking their disposable income before convincing themselves they need the new 'it bag'. Often times, people are stuck in the cycle of consumer debt (I've definitely been guilty) because they believe the 'need' the things that are actually 'wants'. Much love xx
It’s not a luxury thing, but I was lusting after a vintage looking leather bag from Scaramanga and last Christmas I bought it for me from me 😊 I haven’t worn any other bag in last 8 months and that makes me extremely happy 😊
Great advice. What I particularly loved about this video is the self reflection at the end. I have so much respect for you because you take accountability for your choices and it is an act of kindness to share this, so others are enabled to choose, or not, from these recommendations. I looked at your old videos after I watched a video on this channel where you said someone said you were “too perfect”. Yes you are “perfect” at this moment and time, and this has been a journey of self discipline and decisions. Tomorrow you will another version of “perfect” based on another set of choices and self discipline you make today. Thank you for sharing your journey, you are an inspiring and beautiful (inside and out) lady.
You're such a sweetheart talking about the steering wheel!! I've been watching you for years since you had a tiny little closet, and now you've got an amazing dressing ROOM. So proud of you, keep being fabulous.
😂 "I fell into the clutches... of the Bottega Veneta Pouch" - always a chuckle or two to be had along with the sartorial wisdom! Thank you for sharing Lydia 😊 💓 Xxx
That is a good point, Lydia ! Before buying something need to thing a thousand time " Do I need this, where I'm going to use, for how long and e.t ....." You may get addicted to something BUT need a wait to cool down and realize where I'm going to use it. I always wait to cool down....
Hey Lydia, thank you so much for this video. What about your Givenchy Antigona ? Did you sell it? Are you going to purchase it in the mini size as you said? I have it since march and I love it ! Best luxury purchase ever !
I really loved this video.! My most expensive purchase has to be my Black poodle “Phryne”. She’s definitely an expensive luxury purchase and she gives me constant joy!!
My worst purchase was the many many cars I have bought over the years trying to satisfy that itch for my dream car. Finally , at 55 I bought my BMW. I’ve never looked back and still own that car.
This comment section makes me sick. Why so much hate, all the time? The girl always has to apologize for everything she does or says. Why no one's ever happy? That's insane.
I don’t purchase luxury handbags but I use a similar decision making process when buying anything from shoes to clothes to home wares so I really enjoyed this video💙
Clicked on this straight away! My mum and I love watching your videos together! We find your drive so so inspiring and motivation!! Thank you so much 💖💖
New to your channel, I’m loving it. I have a Louis Vuitton bag from Bond Street, have only used it twice, really need to sell it, lol, my mind got lost in the beauty of their Bond Street street store. Thank you for your advice - I will now think once, think twice, think Lydia ❤️
It’s really sad to see some of the negative comments. I rarely read them actually but after the last video decided to have a look. People of you don’t have anything nice to say just don’t say it? What’s the point in negativity?
It's been four years and I have watched every video of yours. I have seen you when you didn't know how to cook anything. Ali used to get you breakfast. And now you call Ali "dinners ready". I have seen you crib about your small house and how there's not enough closet space. And how your relationship with your mother was rocky before and how you slept at your Nonna's for a while. And how your kitchen is so small but you painted everything white so that it looks big. and how you were excited that your home had Netflix on TV. Ahhaha and now, you are in a place where you always wanted to be and I'm so happy for you. The growth! I have been in awe of you since years. You are truly an inspiration. I love you lydia
Love this video! Thank you! Best purchase: Louis Vuitton Alma BB in black Epi leather. Most used classic bag ever! Worst purchase: Hermes Evelyne Bag - wayyy to heavy! Sold it after wearing it 3 times.
Dana Davis So rude. Clearly you never bothered to learn your manners or be a nice human being. Carrie is lovely but you don’t need to drag Lydia down like that.
Dana Davis People don’t exist on the internet for you to be a bully. I hope you someday find inner peace because only miserable people in life find the need to be rude to someone else and call it “sharing their views.” Maybe you can move on someday. Xx
Wow...that last bit of the video touched me. I can definitely relate to your revelation at where you are today. God Bless! I had a similar experience. I left home 10 years ago to advance my career. I was making $46, 385/year and newly divorced. :( I could only DREAM of the life I live today!!!!! Fast forward 10 years, I have a 200 sqft closet, Birkins, Kellys and LOADS of other bags. I own my own business and make $321,000/year. If I could tell myself then, the possibilities that God has in store.... What a beautiful video.
I can‘t compliment you enough on pointing out that people should never buy anything they can‘t afford. So many people are in immense credit card debt just because they buy things they can‘t afford. 👏👏
Good Afternoon Lydia! Thank you so much for this lovely advice, it’s so helpful. I just love the background you have for this video it’s elegant and we all get to enjoy your beautiful LV trunk too. It’s so inspiring to watch you creating your dream life, I’m working hard on mine! Have a wonderful day xx
Yay...!! LOVELY!! My day just gets instantly better when I see that Lydia has posted new content video...!! Thank you for helping me get through the grind of this time of year...!!
I bought a Mulberry Bayswater on sale in the totally wrong color and not my style. Ended up selling that one and made a loss of three thousand😄 My best handbag purchase is my Gucci Dionysus. LOVE IT! I almost bought the Fendi camera bag you showed the other day but had to remember that I have a stella McCartney bag that is almost identical😄 Very influenced by you😍
My biggest regret is selling my old Speedy 35, I saved for months from my first job while living at my parents before uni and absolutely adored it. Then sold it 6/7 years on as it wasn’t getting as much use and I wanted some extra cash. Now when I think back I’m heartbroken I sold my only really designer bag and the first big purchase I ever made for £200 when it meant so much more to me
This video was a justification of your collection rather than any advise on how to shop smart!! I think you should own your materialism. We watch you because you buy the crap we never would! Embrace the waste!
Love your advice Lydia 🙌🏼 I am trying to save for a luxury handbag but I’m a student so I know this will be a “once in a blue moon” purchase for me, at least for now. So I would like to buy one that I’ll get a lot of use out of. Are there any bags that transition well from day to night? Would like some advice for a first-time purchaser because I’m nervous to pick the wrong one and regret it 💕💕
Also, I’ve watched you for yeaaaars, and it’s quite special to have watch you become more you. If that makes sense? More luxury and beautiful stuff, but also more you ☺️
Does my house count as my 1 good purchase 🤣 if it had to be a smaller item I would say my peloton bike, I love spin and being able to have such an amazing bike in my home to be used whenever I want has been life changing!
