Yeah I agree but the problem with him is that he's always insulting you for 20 minutes before actually telling you what's wrong. Would be more effective if he got straight to the point.

William Laliberté have you seen the conditions of the majority of the kitchens?? The fridges, the cross-contamination, the rotten and disgusting food? The dirty restaurants? Gordon has too much respect for the culinary profession so when he sees shit like that of course he is going to chew them out.

Most of the time it's because the cooks lost the passion or are discouraged or don't know the proper norms of cooking. If you put them down even more I'm not sure it's gonna help. Sure it's frustrating for him to see that. Acting like he is it looks more like he wants to eliminate every restaurant he enters in instead of making them successful. But eh, still a good trick to get rid of potential competition. :P

Because reality TV needs conflict. Gordon’s criticisms were taken much more seriously in the UK version.

I have mixed feelings about Gordon. I think he can be helpful, especially in his UK based shows, but for the US shows, it seems like he goes over the top to create constant drama. It comes off like he sold out because that's what those behind the shows demanded. There's also a classist element to it, a wealthy famous chef going around to the worst restaurants in the US they can find and him constantly giving the chefs in them a hard time. Most of them likely don't make much. I can understand him being harsh towards chefs in more well known, higher end places if they aren't living up to their expectations, but chefs in some no name restaurant in a small town in the US as many of these are?

I agree to an extent but keep in mind the restaurants in this show are often in the middle of nowhere and most likely don't pay their chefs that much. It may be hard to feel passionate about being a chef if all you get are a few people who think Olive Garden is great but want to try something different and are barely making enough to survive. Ramsey is in a whole different league and probably cannot properly sympathize with those he berates having not been in the same position in his life or at least for very long.
