Yep me too maybe not Miles Davis kinda cool. 1st time I heard this song I went in search of the sheet music. Most times we'd wear the album out playing a part tryin to get it down. Now boom hit search game over.
@@lincolnmaceachern2410 Willie ain't nuthin to sneeze at he is definitely unique but dadgum it he writes great music. Warning non smokers DON'T GET ON HIS BUS .🤪🤪🤯🚭🚭🎸🎸
Met him at a bar the night the Stones played Atlantic City 1989 Steel Wheels tour. Bought me a Heineken and was as gracious a human being as I've ever met. Almost magical ❤🙏🎸🎤🎶
I'm a frenchie and definitely not from TX and TX wouldn't want me anyway and upset to see Mr Lovett isn't acknowledged as he should be. Because we're both Scorpios! But glad to feel the good vibes from Texans about him.
This song just has to be an incredible blast to play. Great musicians all ... tight as can be. I'm not sure how he does it, but Lyle ALWAYS puts together a world class band.
Texan here ... born-n-raised. The thing I think most people don't realize is that we're brought up this way. We're taught from childhood to love our state like no other. It's something we accept early and are proud of the rest of our born days. When i was in elementary school we sang "Texas Our Texas" every morning along with the Pledge of Allegiance. It's in the blood!
@lifecloud2 I can identify with what you posted. In fact, the lyrics were still "largest and grandest" when I was singing this song in school. Alaska had not yet become a state. Now the line is "boldest and grandest." I can still sing it all the way through. Bet you can too.
Beautiful and simply said..the more life in the US goes on the more I miss just country folk..we are a dying breed..my kids will never know the pride I have in the pledge nor the tears the national anthem brings to me..Country bred born and die .. I am a one school house kid 1st thru 6th from the mountains of Colorado "54 Simple life I will treasure it in my heart forever
Exactly cause when someone says something bad about the U.S I go well their probably right. But if you say anything bad about my TEXAS then now we're going to have a BIG BIG PROBLEM
As a life long Floridian, I always thought our states used to be very similar. We were tough and hardy states. Able to take care of ourselves. But now, tourists and northerners have overrun us. Now Central Florida has no heritage left. Hardly anyone here has roots here. Central and South Fl have let them dictate the direction of the state. And it's disappointing. It no longer feels like Florida here. Texas has done an outstanding job of turning transplants into Texans instead of letting them turn Texas into Michigan or Ohio. I go to Texas a couple of times a year to see Texas music artists in the local clubs. It amazes me to see the state loyalty shown there. The Texas music, big stars on the front of the houses, and almost every business has the word Texas in it. Soon, I will leave this area. I may go to North Fl were the its a slower pace, or maybe , If I find a place in Texas that speaks to me , I will go there. Till then, Im hitting all the dance halls I can find. Oh yea, I got a star for my house too.
I am blown away by this guy. I work in live music and there is just so much out there that I never checked him out. His delivery is effortless. Insert "mind blown" GIF here.
I know this is old but still had to respond. This song was used in "Travel Texas" ads shown around the country for several years. Here in the Great Lakes region I saw them frequently and, of course, already knew the song.
I have had the absolute pleasure to see Lyle Lovett in concert in Perth Australia. I have seen led zeppelin live and thought they were amazing. Lyle and his band absolutely killed it! I bought a tee shirt and it is worn out! Absolutely fantastic concert!
The Large Band is just amazing... what a great fit. Matt Rollings (piano) is one of my favorite musicians around. He's just the best. Having said that, everyone in the band is studio musician worthy. I've seen Lyle perform in concert half a dozen times and he always brings his A game.
That's right I'm not from Texas, but I love this Texan. Went to one of his concerts here in Los Angeles, it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. It was excellent from beginning to end. Money and time well spent.
I thought the same thing when I saw him in Portland Maine in 2004, after travelling from eastern Canada; over 2 hours in a soft seat theatre, with no opening act, but his Large Band, and a college Black gospel choir for"Church" and one or two other songs.
This song and Lyle Lovett personify what Texas means to Texans. My family moved from Austin when I was 15, to Charlotte, NC. I am now 66. But I am STILL a Texan. You can take a girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of a girl. So..I love it...love it...love it...love it!!! And Lyle is the greatest! Thanks so much for this song.
My great-grandaddy moved to what is now Pfleugerville in the late 1870's. My daddy & granddaddy were born there, but I was born out of state because my daddy was a professor in Ohio. But I got to Texas as fast as I could, and have made it my home for nearly 40 years. They took me anyway ;-)
Nice. I was born in Pasadena (outside Houston), but grew up in Framingham (outside Boston). Air Force Brat, my dad was stationed there. I feel this. Who knew? Lol.
I am not from Texas, nor have I ever visited, but I had the opportunity to work with people from Texas. Impressed with their charm and the way they were treating women. Since then I fell in love with Texas. Ouh, I shall not forget the accent too. So, I
I just cannot get enough of this performance, it's like "Hot DAMN !". Puts a smile on my face and a tear in my eye, every time. And I'm not from Texas. :(
Me too - I'm from the UK, but this song makes me grin every time. Superb songwriting and outstanding musicianship - the upright bassist, the violinist, the pianist, the backing singers, brass - all of them - great players. I love this song.
I never felt at home growing up in Texas for a variety of reasons. I got OUT as soon as I could at age 36 and feel very much at home in the Pacific NW. However, I had an extended visit back home to the DFW area this past summer and finally embraced my heritage because I finally realized after visiting so many people that I have so many there that love and care for me. I can now say I'm glad I grew up there and appreciate everything that Texas had to give me.
Where do you live now Ma'am? Still with us I hope. The NW is politically disgusting especially in Seattle & Portland but there is still great beauty out there. How toxic is the air & water there now?
@@capitolhillsfullofshills7713 I don’t agree with you. Respectfully. I do avoid Seattle these past few years as it’s not very safe. I now live in a very beautiful place called Camano Island where I have beach access and a nice water view with Mount Baker in the background. I’m perhaps not quite as liberal as I once was, but retiring after 42 years of teaching led me to believe the most important thing in life boils down to: life is a gift, love is the point and enjoy the now. I don’t say anything derogatory about others and try to practice kindness. We’re all wounded and slinging towards others doesn’t help them. I hope it’s all well with you.
Saw him in concert at the Mountain Winery summer 2019, a fantastic show that went on for hours. Played all my favorites and more! He even had Francine there to sing with him.
I was there, too. I've seen him there four times. I always outstanding. One time, toward the end of the concert, they blew out the electrical circuit--sparks flying--mid-song. They skipped a beat and then finished the song a capella. Extraordinary musicians.
What a performance! I love this song, and this live version is great. That pianist, the double bassist and the violinist are outstanding players. Such a feel-good song and introduction.
I sat next to him for a couple hours on a flight to Rochester NY and we talked the whole way. What a great guy! He was a pleasure to be around. Our visit started when he asked me about my boots.
Amazing band !!! Great song. Lyle is fantastic and at his best with the Large Band ... much better concert than solo or the small string quartet. Damn, this song is so good it brings tears to my eyes !!!! Love you man !
Lyle is one of the greatest musicians I have ever had the honor of listening to. A great combination of big band, blues, swing , JAZZ & finger style ballads. Of course being born in Metairie Louisiana I have fond memories of Basin Street, the French quarter & riding in trolley cars & sitting on my grandfather's knee in the jazz clubs. We all took a jump over to Texas and I can still remember those excellent musicians mixing swing with country. Thank you Lyle for years of great music in a class all it's own. A Lone Star Treasure!
The Krausses are from Champaign, IL, where I live (well, Urbana, the narcissism of small differences abides) and yet somehow are able to play country music. Huh. It's almost as if any of us can do anything well if we really love it.
This is one of my favorite Lyle songs of all time!!!!I have been in a swing (country) band since the early 80s, and man I would give my soul to have a large band like his,but Asleep at the wheel, pull it off with 6 pcs. pretty damn well to.Get it Lyle
Was in Pennsylvania for work, just got back home to Texas. Lyle is so right, God I love this place, God Bless Texas....the best part too I flew home on southwest on the plane painted like the Texan flag.
Hey-Zeus Murphy. I'm from Canada and even I wanna Be From Texas. I've seen this show live and it lives on as one of the greatest musical memories I'll ever have. God Bless Lyle Lovett.
Please grace us with your presence here in Aspen, again and again, I am a native Texan, but live in Aspen and have really enjoyed your concerts here! Thank you so much for the great entertainment! (I used to live in Austin, born and raised in Palacios) Thanks, Lyle!!
Lyle has more punch on this cut than others. Yes Bob Wills and Milton Brown invented this sound in Texas but it hit the big time in Tulsa Oklahoma. THATS RIGHT.
I have been a fan of Lyle Lovett from the early days...even though he is an Aggie. Someone has to be, I guess. I am Texas born, Texas bred and when I die I'll be Texas dead! He's a great representative of Texas to the rest of the country.
Saw him here in Houston in 2011..... of course he lives just north of here, but we all were amazed at the whole band and how well they played. More than entertaining, and certainly proud he's from TEXAS.
+Barbara Klauke We drive past his house periodically when working in that area. My friends say he is often at various eating places off of Steubner. My neighbor was on the same plane as him on the way to London, and spoke with him on the concourse as he had an unusual guitar case, but also remarked at how he wasn't as tall as he thought............ he stands tall to me, I would suggest.
This song reminds me of my mom who passed away in 2011. She always used to be listening to this Music when she did stuff around the house when I was growing up.
First time I ever saw Lyle was at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. Friends had seats in what would have been orchestra section. Not 10 feet away from stage. WOW! blew me out of the water!! Went to see him every year there after that. Love him and his music ever since
Truth - As a Naturalized and Honorary Texan I can attest that this song hits the mark right on. I had to figure out the hard way how to be Texan. Now, being mistaken for a born and bred Texan is one of the great joys of my life. I love the this great land of Texas. Thank you Lyle...You Rock!!!!
It must be tough to fit that much talent on one stage. Everyone is so good. The suits really look sharp, too. I'm not from Texas, but my momma died there.
I love Texas! The first time I visited I felt like I had finally found my home and it has been that way ever since! Previously I had always felt misplaced!
We were lucky enough to see him on June 26th 2008 in Porland, Maine. A great venue for him at Merrill Auditorium......it was only our second show but another great one.
I used to sing as a guest at Mr. Lucky's in Phoenix, Az...The house band was J. David Sloan and the Rogues....The guy playing lead guitar next to Mr. Lovett is Ray Herndon (McBride and the ride fame)...You should have seen the show J. David and Ray could put on back then. Those two could tear UP some twin violins...
That's right, I'm not from Texas. Like Lyle's former girl I'm from Georgia. Everytime I've been to Texas I was welcomed with open arms by friendly people! Hope to be back soon!
I am a Cajun hillbilly and I always hate when people make assumptions about Louisiana and Texas. We are not dumb, or rude or slow, or racist. Maybe a few are. Most get along because we grow up in Louisiana speaking the Acadian language and broken English, in a patois. So when I speak I have my Cajun cousins and my North Louisiana cousins slow drawl in my voice. I moved form south Louisiana speaking fluent old French to moving to north Louisiana right near Texas and Arkansas. We call all non speakers of our language “Texians” and we love our Texas cousins.
An Illinois son of French-Canadians here. Same hot, emotional, magnificent blood coursing through my veins c'est vrai. I spent a summer in Cajun country and never wanted to leave. Felt like I was among my people. a ta sante mon amee.
Texas born over here. I bought my first house.... it's in Illinois.... y'all pray for me please. I didn't realize what southern charm was until it was missing in my life. It's nothing but corn and meth here.
