you prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend for the last few days xD
I'm left totally speechless. but I'll try... Perfect! Their whole look and vibe is beautiful too. If there ever was a band that was family, before and after the multiple tragedies, it was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Collins had more tragedies than nearly anyone in history, but managed to stay positive. Everyone should know that Allen Collins wrote Free Bird , with Ronnie Van Zant. May you both rest in peace.
Ed King does not get the recognition he deserved. It was his crushing bass lines, song writing, and guitar parts on the first album that made it great.
I was at that concert, I believe it was the 1st Knebworth. Wasn't it Lynryd Skynrd that walked on the Stones "tongue"? I remember waiting so long for the Stones to setup and play. We ended walking to get a "cup of tea", could not find our way back our friends because of the darkness, and we all met up at the car later.
This band was told they have 5 more minutes to finish their show in Pittsburgh, PA ...it was about 10 minutes before midnight and they played FREEBIRD for 25 minutes...tore it up. This was a show that had the OUTLAWS warmup CHARLIE DANIELS then LYNYRD SKYNYRD. What a night!
I liked them best during this period. The first 3 albums with Ed King are my favorite and always will be. This version of Freebird is a perfect example.
I was 13 and what a life that I have had.A life that most of these guys never had a chance to live out.I am so grateful for it.If you would have asked me back then,I didn't think I would make it to 20 years old.Now Im a proud Papa.
You know i could see this a thousand times and in my heart it dont get no better then these guys doing this song.no one can touch this.If seeing and hearing Lynyrd Skynyrd do Free Bird like this doesnt get your motor running .than nothing can. This picks my soul up every time. Those Southern Guys no how to play it.thanks for the video.thanks Lynyrd Skynyrd for all these fabulous memories.Bless all of you an those gone on.
Skynyrd Pianist Billy Powell had been a Rodie for the band prior to 1972 when he overheard lead singer Ronny Van Zant trying to figure out an intro for Free Bird. Billy jumped on a nearby piano and said here's what I'd do and played the intro that became the ethereal beginning notes for Free Bird. He was hired on right then and became the band's keyboardist for the next five years until the untimely plane crash that took Ronnie Van Zant and four others.
I told my 21yr old grandson that this is how music was music not the way it is today the 70s thru 80s was how rock was rock not the boring music of today . Long live real rock ❤️❤️
Southern power rock is energized by two masterful dueling guitar players, a wall of sound of percussion, and a concert pianist all dedicated to Dwane Allman.
And can you believe?... the same High School class of 1964' produced Allen Collins- the tall lead guitarist, Gary Rossington the pretty slide guitar( ist' too, isn't he a beautiful being?), and Ronnie Van Zant front man vocals. There are so many bands of prominence whose geniuses walked out of the same neighborhood or high school. For instance- *Alice* *Cooper* (real name Vincent Damon Furnier), bassist Dennis Dunaway, and guitarist Glen Buxton were all students at the same high school. In fact Vincent and Dennis met in art class, neither of which could even play an instrument when they formed the band with classmate Glen Buxton (In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked Buxton number 90 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time). *Watch* *video* *called*, ALICE COOPER 1971 STUDIO FILMING "BALLAD OF D FRY" *note* the triple pick-up *white* Gibson SG Les Paul Custom *guitar* Glen Buxton is playing in the video. It was destroyed and left for dead, but someone held onto the pieces...fast forward many years, and it ends up in the hands of Alice Cooper Founding drummer, Neil Smith (drummer in the 71' studio filming , above). Have a look at this meeting with a renowned guitar repair shop, and the results of the meeting. VIDEO> *Restoring* *Glen* *Buxton's* *Alice* *Cooper* *Gibson* *SG* *for* *Neal* *Smith*
This is quite possibly the best version of Freebird ever recorded, as it has Bob Burns on drums with Ed King playing some lead along with Allen Collins. So we have two Gibson SGs and one Gibson Firebird. Brilliant sound. Bob knows how to play this song on the drums without it sounding too rushed.
So glad I got to see this lineup multiple times in the good ole days in Little Rock several times and the 3 day festival in Sedalia in '74 the 10 year anniversary tour and took my oldest to see what was left of them in the 2000s.....got to meet Ronnie and Gary on a plane goin back to my ship in Philadelphia in '76.....
I believe this is from Hamburg, Germany in 1974, opening for Queen. Not actually the Old Grey Whistle Test performance, but broadcast as part of the TV Show along with other performances
This is definitely not from Shepherds Bush 1975. Ed King left the band during their European tour before they played the Old Grey Whislte Test, when they played that night they only had two guitarists Allen Collins & Gary Rossington.
I love it. Allen and Ed during the climax of the solo are way cool. Scintillating interplay from 2 great American guitarists. What a nice treat this video is thank you so much for posting.
This is supporting Queen in 74. Most likely sound check Roger Taylor's kit on stage behind with the Queen logo on the bass drum and also on the monitor. They opened for Queen on these dates: 23 November 1974 - Koncerthus, Gothenburg, Sweden 05 December 1974 - Musikhalle, Hamburg, Germany
They look and sound great for a video this old.. Bringing back some excellent memories for me and I hope you as well...we're all in line people...one day at a time and peace be with you all ✌❤
Truly one of the Greatest Bands, and certainly, one of the Greatest Songs of all time. Fly High Freebirds, youre Free at last. Thank you for being a huge part of the Soundtrack of my youth. I feel incredibly lucky to have been a Child of the 60s, and to have had this music literally be my day to day life. 🙏✌️
Says it all about 1970's music...Full of colour with light and shade...beautifully constructed with superb musicianship....greater than the sum of the individual parts...
New years eve back in the late 70s/early 80s was all about the OGWT countdown of rock videos voted for by the public. Freebird(not this version) was always the highlight for me!!
Wow never seen this before, damn Ed King was here...! and is tgat Bob on drums before Artimus???...damn... the greatest guitar solo so well-known of all-time Allen Collins!
@@nzo_6543 Steve Gaines came in a little while after Ed left. They had gone back to 2 guitars for a time before Cassie told them about her brother Steve to replace Ed.
@@nzo_6543 He would be a complete dick to all of them when he was drinking. Ed King was great, and when he talked about the truth of it all, he was very gracious. Probably the most honorable of them all.
Remember being in a pub talking to someone in England in the 90s and was stopped mid conversation by the guitar solo when someone put it on the jukebox "hang on ! I got to find out what the hell this is, this is incredible "
Interesting to learn of the origin, thx Davy ..... I can add that it was presented on OGWT though perhaps the full description of presentation may have been edited out upon it's re-broadcast.
+Sam Collins Thanks for the clarification. If it was filmed by auntie (the BBC) at best I thought it could be the Maida Vale studios. Still great though.
spot on.but TOGWT always pre-announced if the slot was recorded elsewhere but this was a rare occurrence as they rigidly insisted on live performances in the OGWT studio.i only know this because a mate was an engineer for the show from '72 - '79.(part of the golden years i think we all agree)
Witnessed this extravaganza 1976, I thought JKF stadium in Philly was gonna fall down..😀 poor Peter Frampton had to follow that ..no better time for music ,the 70's BAR NONE !!!
Saw them at Brum Odeon on their last tour before tragic plane crash, "One More For The (British) Road" Tour. Best concert ever been to, treated to FREEBIRD with extra guest guitarist - Pete Haycock from Stafford (CBB)
I was there also. I saw them on the whistle test and wanted to see them live. That night was amazing because of the three lead guitarists going for it - a fantastic night!
