Lynx Air, an ultra-low-cost Canadian airline, has announced it'll cease operations in a matter of days after attempts to secure investments to ensure a future failed, and the airline was left with no choice but to cease operations.

ULCC business is difficult but the Canadian air travel market makes it even more difficult.

The problem in Canada is the high airport fees and taxes. Add to that the large size and relatively low population and you can see why the ULC model struggles to work. It doesn’t help that Air Canada and Westjet can be quite predatory when it comes to competition

Well, sunwing, as a brand won't exist, but however it will exist under westjets blanket. So you might still see sunwing planes, but they are owned by WestJet. Similar to Scoot. So sunwing won't have a website, nor will there be any employment opportunities in that airline. All it's existing staff will simply become WestJet staff. Hope that helps 😀

I appreciated their simplicity. I flew their inaugural (first ever) flight (YYC - YVR) and their inaugural LAS - YYC. I will miss them.

Hope Flair won't follow. My hopes are high. They have been releasing positive press releases last quarter. 🙏 supposed to fly with Lynx this summer, but even if Westjet offered 25% discount for Lynx customers, still chose Flair.

canada is an unforgiven place for airlines. There are several factors that go against low cost airlines in Canada. The high taxes, large geography of the country and the low spread out population. The loss of Lynx could actually work in favour for Flair airlines. Now that their main low cost competitor is gone, they can take up the slack.

The Government should have made policies and provisions to make ULCC operations more profitable like other countries do. This would have benefited the people of Canada.

Flair will be next to go. Porter has a chance but I see them eventually pulling back some in the future. Heck, WestJet is even having trouble in Eastern Canada. I knew Lynx was done for when i did a price check and they wanted $83 for carry on luggage.

The company I used to work for have had Lynx's gound handling contract. Most of time the flights had very little checked baggages, which tells you just how empty the flights were...

So many airlines make razor thin margins and even large carriers have issues remaining profitable. Usually staff suffer with cuts to conditions. The travelling public need to realise air travel is not cheap. End of story. You can only cut so much, before the operation becomes unsafe. Take a look at Boeing!

Flair will he happy to acquire Lynx planes and employees in their growth plans. As soon as they announced multiple airline launches (Flair, Lynx, Jetlines) with Swoop, the writing was on the wall that one or two would merge or collapse. And now Swoop and Lynx are gone

Good riddance…absolutely had it coming for them ..I’m From Australia and Lynx has the rudest and most racist staff ever .I have seen the flight attendant screaming at the passengers before take off .Most of the people on the receiving end had little to poor English.Also coming out of the toilet close to their pantry heard them talking about how disgusting it is to serve customers from certain countries..I reported the incident to the senior flight attendant who tried to give me a $25 flight voucher for the trouble lol .
