Recorded by Allen Collins in his living room at 1607 Blanding Blvd on the Westside on Jacksonville, FL on the evening of June 29th, 1973. Lynyrd Skynyrd rehearsed at the legendary "Hell House" earlier that day. Allen went home that night to try to write new material for the band's future albums, which is what this recording represents.
The summer of 1973 was an exciting time for the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. They had just finished recording their debut album "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd" with producer Al Kooper on his Sounds of the South label, and were eagerly awaiting its release in August. The band was also formally introduced to the music world by Al Kooper at a press-release party at Richard's in Atlanta, GA in July. Throughout the summer of 1973, Skynyrd would continue to rehearse and write new music, most famously writing and recording the song "Sweet Home Alabama" which would later appear on their sophomore album "Second Helping." Just a few months later, Lynyrd Skynyrd would famously open for The Who on their North American Quadrophenia tour and subsequently become one of the hottest rock bands in the world in a few short years.
This recording is a great example of Allen Collins' brilliant creativity when he was just 20 years old, conjuring the riffs and melodies for what would become hit songs right of thin air.
